Cosmos Camping: Room with a view

General

  • Cosy adults-only site with mountain views in the Brecon Beacons
  • Just off the A4069, 25 minutes’ drive from Dinefwr and Llandeilo
  • In a Dark Sky Reserve with firepits provided; communal kitchen on site

If the thought of a break within driving distance of waterfalls, castles and gold mines makes you go starry-eyed, Cosmos Camping might be your missing jigsaw piece. This cosy over-16s-only site is just the place to rocket into the Brecon Beacons National Park. It's just off the epic A4069 (packed with dramatic climbs and mountain views), 25 minutes’ drive from Dinefwr and 35 minutes from the National Showcaves Centre for Wales.

You’ll really get to look to the cosmos here too, as Alex and Bob (the new owners) have named the site for its location in a Dark Sky Reserve. Each pitch has a firepit (with logs available to buy on site) where you can keep warm while you catch the constellations, Milky Way and nebulas (when skies are clear).

With views over the Black Mountains, it’s no surprise that walks are the real deal around here – and your dog can come too, as they’re permitted under close control (due to livestock). If that feels too strenuous, the pond and river are top picnic spots to watch wildlife in action – perhaps red kites overhead or bats in the wooded area at sunset.

Come mealtimes, you’ll have use of the site’s communal kitchen facilities, including dishwashing sinks, hot water, a microwave, kettle, fridge-freezer, drying rack, 10-port USB charging station and emergency tea, coffee, sugar and milk. The bathroom has hand sanitisers, flushing toilets and two shower rooms with hot electric showers and sinks.

It’s tents only on the spaced-out pitches, but there’s a car park at the base of the field and garden trolleys for transporting your gear.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Reception is unmanned after 6 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Guests under the age of 16 are not allowed on site.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

No gas barbecues allowed.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

No electric barbecues allowed.

We had the whole site to ourselves and we can’t wait to come back next year. So thank you so much Bob and Alex.

Alex & Bob are the most wonderful hosts. As a solo female traveller I felt safe and catered for, I cannot daily their hospitality. The site is abundant! The river singing me to sleep, the toads, the owls and all the other wildlife was stunning for mid-October. And the view from my little tent was awesome, the moon, the stars!! Totally blew me away. The location is perfect for some of the best waterfalls and climbs the Brecons have to offer. The on-site facilities were great, couldn’t ask for more. I have no doubt this little site will be booked up, I’m definitely returning!!

Pre-arrival communication via email and telephone set the tone for a warm welcome from Bob & Alex. Both were very helpful, engaging and enthusiastic in providing a familiarisation of their beautifully located camp site, it's excellent amenities & facilities, and an overview of the local area services and places to explore.
Additionally, Bob & Alex were able able to provide some good pointers for local walks and adventures.

Alex and Bob were welcoming and friendly from the moment of our arrival to our final departure (Cosmo the dog was pleased to see us too...).
Great views to the Brecon hills (which are lit up beautifully with the right sunset) and the A4069 Mountain road being only 5 mins from the campsite gave great access to spectacular scenery of the whole area.
The fire pit at each tent pitch meant for easy and relaxing evenings.
The wifi was just strong enough to reach our tent which came in great use.
Having access to a fridge, freezer, kettle and microwave onsite was an added bonus too.

This site is fantastic. The pitches are well spaced out and each has its own fire pit. The toilet/shower facilities are housed in 2 separate rooms in a static caravan. Whilst the excellent camp kitchen area completes the facility. The facilities are kept really clean.
Wood is available to buy at £8 a bag. For this you get a good sized bag of logs, cut to suit a campfire (no more having to take an axe to chop oversized logs), a supply of kindling and firelighters. All you've got to do is build it and light it.
The weather was extremely kind to us during our stay which allowed us to fully appreciate the site's location. Being in a "dark sky" area and having clear skies at night was a beautiful sight. The view of the stars was incredible. The site is also very peaceful, with only the occasional vehicle to be heard on the lane. Mostly the sounds we heard were sheep, cows, kites (which are plentiful in the area) and owls.
The owners, Alex and Bob are lovely people. Really friendly, thoroughly welcoming and very helpful. Oh, and Cosmo the dog is lovely aswell.
We are already looking forward to our next visit to this gem of a site.

Cosmos Camping is fantastic site in a lovely part of Wales! It was exactly as described, a perfect site for a quiet getaway with great views of nearby hills from the site. It's also great location for visiting nearby places and walks (Llyn Fan Fach is a lovely scenic walk). The facilities are great and come with a kettle, perfect for a morning cup of coffee! Each pitch has a nice firepit on it and there is even a decent wifi signal in parts of the site (if needed). The owners are welcoming, friendly and very helpful which made the trip even better. To top it off as the site is in a dark sky reserve so staying up stargazing was a real treat. Highly recommend this site for a quiet getaway and will certainly be going back!

Camping site had everything we needed from well equipped kitchen to common areas with free Wifi. Pitches are very well spaced out and each has its own fire pit. The facilities were always clean and adequate for everyone staying.

We really enjoyed stargazing at nights, although a good torch is absolutely necessary. The area is very quiet and peaceful. There are many places to visit around, all listed on the premises by the owners. As a bonus for us, it is an adults only camping area.

Our dog had the time of his life playing with Cosmo! We cannot wait to visit again soon. :)

Amazing site with little cut pitches and free fire pits, they have the most amazing stars on a clear night due to the dark sky reserve, which is beautiful! The facilities are fantastic, cleaned regularly, including a toilet, shower, drinking water, kitchen facilities, and you can buy fire wood on-site.

The owners are so lovely and friendly, they are super helpful and lovely to chat too!
They have a list of things to do around the local area, along with local pubs and restaurants, and free WiFi zones on site.
Amazing site that’s super peaceful to camp with stunning views, and tonnes of stuff to do in the local area.

We are definitely coming back and would strongly recommend :) x
