Cosmos Camping: Visitor image of a beautiful morning view

General

  • Cosy adults-only site with mountain views in the Brecon Beacons
  • Just off the A4069, 25 minutes’ drive from Dinefwr and Llandeilo
  • In a Dark Sky Reserve with firepits provided; communal kitchen on site

If the thought of a break within driving distance of waterfalls, castles and gold mines makes you go starry-eyed, Cosmos Camping might be your missing jigsaw piece. This cosy over-16s-only site is just the place to rocket into the Brecon Beacons National Park. It's just off the epic A4069 (packed with dramatic climbs and mountain views), 25 minutes’ drive from Dinefwr and 35 minutes from the National Showcaves Centre for Wales.

You’ll really get to look to the cosmos here too, as Alex and Bob (the new owners) have named the site for its location in a Dark Sky Reserve. Each pitch has a firepit (with logs available to buy on site) where you can keep warm while you catch the constellations, Milky Way and nebulas (when skies are clear).

With views over the Black Mountains, it’s no surprise that walks are the real deal around here – and your dog can come too, as they’re permitted under close control (due to livestock). If that feels too strenuous, the pond and river are top picnic spots to watch wildlife in action – perhaps red kites overhead or bats in the wooded area at sunset.

Come mealtimes, you’ll have use of the site’s communal kitchen facilities, including dishwashing sinks, hot water, a microwave, kettle, fridge-freezer, drying rack, 10-port USB charging station and emergency tea, coffee, sugar and milk. The bathroom has hand sanitisers, flushing toilets and two shower rooms with hot electric showers and sinks.

It’s tents only on the spaced-out pitches, but there’s a car park at the base of the field and garden trolleys for transporting your gear.

Please note

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Guests under the age of 16 are not allowed on site.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

No gas barbecues allowed.

No electric barbecues allowed.

The campsite is relatively new, having been established by Bob and Alex who own and run the site. Extremely helpful and welcoming to campers staying there; lots of tips on local points of interest and where to find good quality food in the nearby towns. It’s very much off the beaten track and, free from light pollution, the site offers truly spectacular views of the night sky on cloudless nights. The camping pitches are of generous proportions; I pitched a 4 metre bell tent there and would have more than adequate space for an additional tent or gazebo, had I needed one. The site does not accept children which means that for those campers wanting a sense of peace and tranquility it’s ideal a mercifully free of the sounds of squabbling youngsters and endless games of football and frisbees so commonly endured at more typical and conventional campsites. The facilities on site are clean and well-equipped, with modern showers and loos, all very clean and adequate in number. There is a kitchen area that includes two sizable sinks for washing up, a fridge and freezer for campers to keep food fresh and even a microwave oven, kettle and tea & coffee available. I couldn’t have chosen a better campsite to stay at for a few days away and the chance to enjoy the peace and tranquility the site affords. 10 out of 10 to Bob and Alex for this very unique site and how they run things. I will definitely be making further bookings to stay again at Cosmos Camping.

Many thanks for your feedback and we're happy you enjoyed your stay here at Cosmos Camping.
We're glad to report that the dog mess was an isolated incident and we haven't had any issues since. We do appreciate you pointing it out so we could clean it up promptly. We continue to highlight to all dog owners upon arrival where to dispose of mess and we also supply complimentary poo bags to all four legged visitors. Next season we intend to supply some basic provisions to purchase onsite and in the meantime, for future reference, there is a well stocked local store in Llangadog just an 8 minute drive from here.

Best Wishes,

Bob & Alex
