If the thought of a break within driving distance of waterfalls, castles and gold mines makes you go starry-eyed, Cosmos Camping might be your missing jigsaw piece. This cosy over-16s-only site is just the place to rocket into the Brecon Beacons National Park. It's just off the epic A4069 (packed with dramatic climbs and mountain views), 25 minutes’ drive from Dinefwr and 35 minutes from the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. You’ll really get to look to the cosmos here too, as Alex and Bob (the new owners) have named the site for its location in a Dark Sky Reserve. Each pitch has a firepit (with logs available to buy on site) where you can keep warm while you catch the constellations, Milky Way and nebulas (when skies are clear). With views over the Black Mountains, it’s no surprise that walks are the real deal around here – and your dog can come too, as they’re permitted under close control (due to livestock). If that feels too strenuous, the pond and river are top picnic spots to watch wildlife in action – perhaps red kites overhead or bats in the wooded area at sunset. Come mealtimes, you’ll have use of the site’s communal kitchen facilities, including dishwashing sinks, hot water, a microwave, kettle, fridge-freezer, drying rack, 10-port USB charging station and emergency tea, coffee, sugar and milk. There is also a café-bar on site. The bathroom has hand sanitisers, flushing toilets and two shower rooms with hot electric showers and sinks. It’s tents only on the spaced-out pitches, but there’s a car park at the base of the field and garden trolleys for transporting your gear.

A top spot with stunning views! Facilities are top-notch: clean, modern showers, loos & a communal kitchen. Hosts Bob & Alex are super friendly. Lovely peaceful vibes, big pitches & cool horsebox bar. Walks nearby are great, but shops are a bit of a trek and pitches have a gentle slope.

Liked Alex and Bob are very friendly and welcoming hosts, great location, clean well-kept facilities, and a cool mini-bar with more than reasonable prices. Lots to do in the area and Alex and Bob also gave us great recommendations for food and places to visit. Nothing to fault, we both loved our stay and will be coming back again.

Liked We loved the peace and tranquility, the fact it was adults only, the bar, the very clean facilities, the hot shower, the very friendly and welcoming owners, the kites, the mountains, the short drive to a glacial mountain lake

Disliked There were lots of bugs at night so citronella and bug spray recommended for all campers!

Liked Absolutely beautiful site.

Alex and Bob are both so lovely and welcoming. The whole site has a homely feel whilst not being outdated or cloying. The facilities are modern and superb standard.

Price - very fair for what you get
Location - stunning and close to the Beacons. Not very close to any “big” shops (newsagents approx 10min drive away)
Facilities - 3x modern showers, toilets and sinks. Separate kitchenette with industrial sized sinks. Fridge/freezer and microwave accessible (fridge not the coldest due to campers opening and closing the fridge frequently but a MUCH appreciated addition in the heat!!). Communal fire pit. Lovely bar and refreshment in a converted horse box. Belfast sink located in the camping field with drinking water (closer than facilities so don’t have to walk too far for drinking water!)

Liked Showers and toilets are clean and perfectly looked after.

A conversation was had about the electric mop and it was fixed straight aways and the showers cleaned again!

Honestly amazing attention to detail

If you’re lucky. I was. The stars are just something else!!

The bar was a lovely touch around the log burner!

Liked Simply the best campsite I have ever visited.
Bob and Alex are amazing hosts, managing to accommodate me after having booked for the wrong week and not realising until after arriving!
The showers and toilet block on site are incredible and did not feel like a 'camp' bathroom at all, more like something you would find in a BnB.
No description I can give of the views, and general atmosphere of the site can do it justice. We were lucky enough to have a few hours of clear sky on our second night, and the view of the night sky was just incredible, and even during the rain in the morning the surrounding views of the mountains were gorgeous.

In summary, if you have the opportunity to visit Cosmos Camping, you should book immediately. You will not regret it

You’ll have quite the pick of trails, from Herbert’s Quarry (five minutes), a historical landmark linked to the 99-mile Beacons Way, to Usk Reservoir’s five-mile loop (half an hour) and Henrhyd Falls’ (40 minutes) walk to the highest waterfall in South Wales.
