General

  • 250-acre National Trust Farm with stunning sea views
  • Wildlife haven five minutes' walk from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Pitch where you are like in a spacious camping field

Look at the pics. Look. At. The. Pics. Celtic Camping in Pembrokeshire is in an utterly lush location, four miles south of also utterly lush St Davids and on the 250-acre working and wildlife-laden National Trust farm of Pwll Caerog, part of which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. And then there’s the beach: the pebbly cove of Aber Pwll is at the foot of the farm about five minutes’ walk away.

You’ll be reeling with glee at the views from all around here, right across the Irish Sea and Abereiddy Bay with slate quarry-filled Blue Lagoon, a deeply desirable spot for diving and twice host of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. If you want walkies, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is about 500 metres from the farm and coastal trails run from Abereiddy to the village of Porthcain in one direction, and to Whitesands Bay via St Davids Head in the other.

Pitch anywhere you like around the roomy field: this is a relaxed and friendly site with loads of space for all: dogs, families, individuals and couples included. Toilets and showers are cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.

The site also has a large temporary indoor dining area, but you might reckon this is one of the most viewsome places around to eat alfresco: campfires and barbecues are – naturally – allowed, and firewood or charcoal can be bought from the amiable Celtic Camping team.

    Amazing views and friendly staff

    Disliked:

Pricey when measured with facilities. Initially no hot water until more campers arrived on weekend then got slightly better.
Also the Wi-fi was a daily rate of £2.50 per device and the signal was sporadic at best.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. It is great that you (and your dogs) had an amazing break and got to explore the wonderful coastal path which is just a field away from the main campsite. It will be great to see you back here - Warm Regards, Francesca

Stunning location and nice peaceful site. Lots of space and dog friendly

    Disliked:

The toilet facilities were very basic as the main toilet block was being used for school field trip. The site wasn't busy but if it was there would not have been enough toilet or shower facilities. One toilet and one shower!

From the manager...

Many thanks for you review - we are blessed with beautiful, stunning surroundings, lots of space and having direct access at the bottom of the farm to the coastal path is a privilege.

When school groups are onsite we do keep an element of segration for safeguarding reasons. At this time we often do not have any campers or sometimes just a handful of guests. The smaller toilet block is then utilised for campers exclusively. The ladies area has 2 toilets, a shower and baby changing facilities. The gentlemens area has 2 toilets and a shower. The ratios that we maintain more than exceed the 3 star accreditation from Visit Wales.

Hopefully we will see you again in the future - warmest regards Francesca

Spectacular views, very close to coastal path and not far to walk to beaches. Excellent facilities.

    Disliked:

There were youth group activities taking place on site when we stayed and this was quite noisy and went on until around 11pm. Something to bear in mind if you want a quiet getaway! Although the site is quite large so it may have been quieter on other pitches

We do walk around the site until late and unfortunately didn't pick up the excessive noise that you refer too. We apologise for that and encourage anyone to come into Reception and let us know or Ian the owner is at the farmhouse to assist.

Some noisy campers who hogged the picnic tables and fire pits and were noisy until gone 2am.
Expensive to get bus into St David's which was only a few miles away but that's not the site's fault but something to bear in mind if you are in a motorhome

Great camp site. Staff could not be more friendly or helpful. Facilities are very good and well maintained. I stayed in my camper van in the tent pitches as did not need a hook-up, and there was lots of space, nice and quiet where we were. Would definitely recommend as a base for walking the coastal path and exploring Pembrokeshire.

Local attractions

Coasteering, kayaking, sailing, surfing, rock climbing and other hair-raising and scenic adventures are all around, with several activity centres easily reachable from Celtic Camping; the site staff can arrange something for those who’d like to plunge in.

If you’re taking to the area under your own steam, Pembrokeshire has dozens of eye-wateringly pretty Blue flag beaches to pick from: award-winning Whitesands, about 40 minutes’ walk from Abereiddy Bay, is a hit with surfers for the breaks on its northern end.

A little further along the coast from Whitesands and towards the north end of St Brides Bay on St Davids Peninsula, slip around to the fishing village and harbour of Solva to drop jaw at the views around the Griben coastal walk. Pick up freshly dressed Pembrokeshire crab at the village seafood shop for later back at the barbie: three pubs, two cafés and two restaurants are around too for a pitstop.

The Puffin Shuttle coastal bus goes from Solva to Britain’s smallest city St Davids three times a day in summer: get the early one to see the cathedral properly as well as Bishops Palace beside it.

Must see
