Celtic Camping: Sun setting over the Irish Sea

General

  • On a 250-acre National Trust farm with stunning sea views
  • Wildlife haven five minutes' walk from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Pitch where you like in a spacious camping field

Look at the pics. Look. At. The. Pics. Celtic Camping in Pembrokeshire is in an utterly lush location, four miles north of also utterly lush St Davids and on the 250-acre working and wildlife-laden National Trust farm of Pwll Caerog, part of which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. And then there’s the beach: the pebbly cove of Aber Pwll is at the foot of the farm about five minutes’ walk away.

You’ll be reeling with glee at the views from all around here, right across the Irish Sea and Abereiddy Bay with slate quarry-filled Blue Lagoon, a deeply desirable spot for diving and twice host of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. If you want walkies, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is about 500 metres from the farm and coastal trails run from Abereiddy to the village of Porthgain in one direction, and to Whitesands Bay via St Davids Head in the other.

Pitch anywhere you like around the roomy field: this is a relaxed and friendly site with loads of space for all: dogs, families, individuals and couples included. Toilets and showers are cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.

The site also has a large temporary indoor dining area, but you might reckon this is one of the most viewsome places around to eat alfresco: campfires and barbecues are – naturally – allowed, and firewood or charcoal can be bought from the amiable Celtic Camping team.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Please note that some units have a maximum adult occupancy of 2- please check the information in the pitch type description carefully before making your booking.

Amazing location with great views, lots of space in early September, easy electric hook up and lots of pitches to choose from, lots of water taps nearby, toilets and showers clean and plenty of them. Location is a gem- close to so many beaches and view points. Hope to come back next year.

The location of this place is just unreal. I stayed on the lower field that is nearer to the shore and I have never had such amazing views waking up in a tent.
The place itself is well run/organized with the stuff being super friendly/helpful/flexible.
Clean facilities, hot shower, fridges/freezers etc... you have everything you need to relax and just enjoy the beauty of Pembrokeshire for a couple fo days.
Will definitely be back as soon as

Easy access to power supply. The location was great.

    Disliked:

More for young campers rather than older caravaners. Also the "just choose your spot" was a bit random. Also we were told that the other beach was just a short walk around the cliff path,. Was far too long for my wife with knee problems. It would be dangerous for someone with heart condition also.

Still a 5 star review, only putting this as its my personal preference but there were no marked pitches when we arrived so the centre of the field looked a little muddled and we were unsure where to pitch. Markers then appeared either side of our tent before bank holiday so I guess they're only marked out when its busier? Takes nothing away from the great stay though, just aggravated my OCD hahaha!

The location, and views, as well as the service from the team at Celtic Camping.
Liked the fact they now have a lovely little onsite shop :-)

    Disliked:

The noise in the Blue Lagoon Field on Bank Holiday weekend, as there were 3 very large groups who stayed up very late, and made noise on an off through the night. We have never had an issue before however, but this time it was very frustrating. The team at CC tried to manage it but the groups were just too big & there were too many in the groups.
The toilet block on the Blue Lagoon field wasn't well maintained (but it's about to be replaced with a permanent structure) and all other facilities were excellent. I would return, hoping that noise management is better managed in the future.

    |We rarely go revisit places but this is a keeper. The staff are amazingly hard working and efficient. I lost my purse and they have gone above and beyond to return it to me after someone handed it in. (Thank you!) We brought friends with us and would return with more. The only niggle was a neighbour blasting dance music at 6.50am on Sunday. :0

Local attractions

Coasteering, kayaking, sailing, surfing, rock climbing and other hair-raising and scenic adventures are all around, with several activity centres easily reachable from Celtic Camping; the site staff can arrange something for those who’d like to plunge in.

If you’re taking to the area under your own steam, Pembrokeshire has dozens of eye-wateringly pretty Blue flag beaches to pick from: award-winning Whitesands, about 40 minutes’ walk from Abereiddy Bay, is a hit with surfers for the breaks on its northern end.

A little further along the coast from Whitesands and towards the north end of St Brides Bay on St Davids Peninsula, slip around to the fishing village and harbour of Solva to drop jaw at the views around the Griben coastal walk. Pick up freshly dressed Pembrokeshire crab at the village seafood shop for later back at the barbie: three pubs, two cafés and two restaurants are around too for a pitstop.

The Puffin Shuttle coastal bus goes from Solva to Britain’s smallest city St Davids three times a day in summer: get the early one to see the cathedral properly as well as Bishops Palace beside it.

  • St Davids Cathedral (5.2 kilometres)
