Celtic Camping: Ready for adventure

General

  • On a 250-acre National Trust farm with stunning sea views
  • Wildlife haven five minutes' walk from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Pitch where you like in a spacious camping field

Look at the pics. Look. At. The. Pics. Celtic Camping in Pembrokeshire is in an utterly lush location, four miles north of also utterly lush St Davids and on the 250-acre working and wildlife-laden National Trust farm of Pwll Caerog, part of which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. And then there’s the beach: the pebbly cove of Aber Pwll is at the foot of the farm about five minutes’ walk away.

You’ll be reeling with glee at the views from all around here, right across the Irish Sea and Abereiddy Bay with slate quarry-filled Blue Lagoon, a deeply desirable spot for diving and twice host of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. If you want walkies, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is about 500 metres from the farm and coastal trails run from Abereiddy to the village of Porthgain in one direction, and to Whitesands Bay via St Davids Head in the other.

Pitch anywhere you like around the roomy field: this is a relaxed and friendly site with loads of space for all: dogs, families, individuals and couples included. Toilets and showers are cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.

The site also has a large temporary indoor dining area, but you might reckon this is one of the most viewsome places around to eat alfresco: campfires and barbecues are – naturally – allowed, and firewood or charcoal can be bought from the amiable Celtic Camping team.

Please note

Bookings must not consist of more than 1 different households.

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

All onsite food and drink establishments are closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

From the manager...

Hi. Thanks very much for taking the time to leave a review and for the feedback which we always read with interest in our attempts to improve the customer experience for guests when they are camping with us.
You came at a great time of year to see the seals and their pups that we are lucky to have all along the beautiful coast line here in the autumn, so we are glad that you managed to enjoy seeing them whilst you were here. And lovely to hear that you found the staff friendly and helpful..that is always great to hear. Hope that we may see you again in the future. Regards

From the manager...

Hi Cath.
Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review and we are happy to hear that you thought it was a lovely campsite. Obviously, we are sorry that the weather was against you on this occasion and you left early due to your tent breaking. In these situations, we are usually able to offer alternative accommodation in the bunkhouses/dorms, to allow campers to continue their stay with us, so it is unfortunate that we were unaware of your situation to allow us to give you this opportunity. I note that you indicate that you would not visit again, but if you change your mind, we would be more than happy to welcome you back, hopefully in better conditions. Regards

Great campsite. Fantastic views from all powered pitches. Relaxed atmosphere. Camp fires allowed during my stay. Facilities are good. Recycling is excellent. Easy access to Coastal Path for great walks.

    Disliked:

£30 per night for a powered pitch for two is a little on the expensive side.

From the manager...

Hi David, Thank you for coming to stay. We appreciate you sharing your review. We do aim to provide all the comforts to make our guest's stay a little more convenient. We're sorry if you found things a little pricier than expected, we are in constant review to keep competitively priced with our local competitors. Hopefully, we get to see you again next season.

Out door dish washing facility does not have any cover, so you can get vert wet.

From the manager...

Thanks for your review, Gregor, Sometimes it's worth waiting until the end of the season to visit during seal pup season. The Pembrokeshire wildlife is special at any time of year, but seeing the seals so active and raising their young is something else. Hope we get to see you next year.

Thanks for coming to stay with us, Neil. We're pleased you made the most of the rental firepits. In the winter the campsite hosts Pembrokshire Logs, so we always have plenty of kiln-dried logs ready for your personal relaxation zone at the end of a long day exploring Pembrokeshire. Hopefully, see you again next year.

Hi Joanne. Thanks for coming back to visit us again and for leaving a positive review for us. Regarding the WiFi, we acknowledge that the signal is not the strongest in this part of the world and do try to manage people's expectations around this. That said, we are constantly looking at ways to improve this, so hope that next time you visit we may have an improved service. Thanks. Chris

Local attractions

Coasteering, kayaking, sailing, surfing, rock climbing and other hair-raising and scenic adventures are all around, with several activity centres easily reachable from Celtic Camping; the site staff can arrange something for those who’d like to plunge in.

If you’re taking to the area under your own steam, Pembrokeshire has dozens of eye-wateringly pretty Blue flag beaches to pick from: award-winning Whitesands, about 40 minutes’ walk from Abereiddy Bay, is a hit with surfers for the breaks on its northern end.

A little further along the coast from Whitesands and towards the north end of St Brides Bay on St Davids Peninsula, slip around to the fishing village and harbour of Solva to drop jaw at the views around the Griben coastal walk. Pick up freshly dressed Pembrokeshire crab at the village seafood shop for later back at the barbie: three pubs, two cafés and two restaurants are around too for a pitstop.

The Puffin Shuttle coastal bus goes from Solva to Britain’s smallest city St Davids three times a day in summer: get the early one to see the cathedral properly as well as Bishops Palace beside it.
