  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the national park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive) or climb Eryri's mountains. If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few balls as you go, head to the golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Electric grass tent pitch (deluxe)

Liked Could see the lake from our pitch, on the mach loop route so saw some cool aircraft when we arrived Friday afternoon. Toilet and shower facilities were relatively clean and tidy.

Disliked Pitch wasn’t that much better than other options and didn’t have as much privacy as I thought. This might improve with time as the laurels grow.
No staff on site overnight meaning noise rules are not enforced

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed the lake views from your pitch, the Mach Loop aircraft sightings, and found our toilet and shower facilities clean and tidy.

We’re sorry to hear that the pitch didn’t provide the level of privacy you were expecting, and we appreciate your comments regarding the laurels. We’re hopeful that as they mature, they will provide more screening and privacy between pitches.

Regarding the noise overnight, we’d just like to clarify that our warden does live on site, and their contact number is displayed on the front door of Reception should any issue arise during your stay. The warden also carries out a site check at around 10:30pm to remind guests of our quiet-time policy and help ensure the site remains peaceful for everyone.

We’re sorry if this wasn’t apparent during your stay, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We’ll continue to do our best to ensure all guests can enjoy a comfortable and peaceful night.

Thank you again for your constructive feedback — it’s genuinely helpful as we continue to improve the site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated and we are so glad that you found the site to be quiet and that the pitch was to your satisfaction. It is always a difficult one with the water temperature as everybody has a different opinion on what is hot enough for them! It is set at a certain temperature to try and suit everyone. We look forward to welcoming you back here again in the future.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
