  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the national park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive) or climb Eryri's mountains. If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few balls as you go, head to the golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Fully-serviced hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Liked the secuded area that we were pitched in. Facilities were good

Disliked The smell from the drain (near pitch 13). The hand dryers smelled bad and were ineffective

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review and for sharing your feedback. We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed the secluded area of the site and found the facilities to be good.

We’re sorry to hear about the unpleasant smell from the drain near pitch 13, we are looking into this but unsure of the cause at this present time - it may be due to all the dry/hot weather we have been experiencing but please rest assured that we are looking into all possible causes/solutions. We will consider looking into new hand dryers too. We appreciate you bringing these points to our attention and will look into both matters with our maintenance team.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide a more enjoyable experience next time.

Electric grass tent pitch (deluxe)

Liked Beautiful campsite. Quiet, good location. Lovely shower and washing facilities

Disliked Small shop, could do with more stock.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review! We’re so pleased you enjoyed our beautiful, peaceful campsite, convenient location, and our shower and washing facilities.
We're not really sure that we could possibly stock anything more in the shop! What would you have liked to have seen in the shop that we didn't stock? We cater for all the essentials but there is a Co-Op and Spar in town, only 15mins walk from the site. We hope to welcome you back again soon!

Little Green shepherd's hut

Liked Location of this site is exceptional and very clean.
We stayed in the green hut and had a fantastic 2 nights, it’s very comfortable and cosy.
As others have said it is near the road but the road noise did improve after 10pm and didn’t disturb our sleep
All the staff on site were very friendly and helpful.
We ordered meat from reception that was delivered the same day and the quality was outstanding, well worth the money

Disliked The little fridge doesn’t keep the contents cool

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated and we are so glad that you enjoyed the location and the wonderful butchers we have in Bala. We will take on board the fridge situation, will order a new one today!. We look forward to seeing you here again in the future.

Rhosyn Prospector Castle ready tent

Liked Tent easily fitted x2 double air beds, site was well maintained and the plot felt private but not secluded, loved the decking area with a bench and table, facilities were clean and very modern, shampoo, conditioner and body wash available, smelt lovely and left my hair feeling great, staff were pleasant welcoming and very helpful & knowledgeable, the onsite shop was not overly priced and stocked many things you may need or want. Small walk away from Bala train or a short 5 min drive to the lake, plenty of fire pits available, sit was really relaxing and peaceful, plenty of plots available but didnt feel overcrowded, highly recommend this place!

Disliked Not a dislike but more of a heads up, because we had x4 people in the tent, we had to utilise the decking as our cooking area, which was fine for us as the weather was great.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: What a brilliant start to a Monday!. Thank you so much for your kind words, very much appreciated. We are so glad that you enjoyed your time with us and that you liked our little extras in the shower block, little touches go a long way. We are very lucky to be located within walking distance to the magnificent lake. We hope to welcome you back in the future.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
