  • Family-owned Eryri (Snowdonia) site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the national park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive) or climb Eryri's mountains. If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few balls as you go, head to the golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

What customers say

Pen Y Bont Campsite receives overwhelmingly positive feedback for its immaculate facilities, particularly the modern and clean shower blocks. Guests consistently praise the friendly and helpful staff, the beautiful location close to Bala Lake and town, and the well-maintained pitches. Minor issues mentioned include occasional road noise on certain pitches, the Wi-Fi performance, and the desire for more on-site amenities for children. Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (medium)

Liked Super clean and well maintained site. Water supply on the pitch was great. Good sized pitches. Small shop for essentials. Great customer service.

Disliked 25 minute walk to Bala town, 10 min to lake, no lake view, WiFi not great on pitch 3

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and glad that you found the site to be clean and well maintained.
There is always the option of a taxi to get you into town . We do offer lake view should customers request it. The WIFi has been recently upgraded with many signal boosters dotted around the park so I am not sure why you were having trouble. we hope to see you again in the future.

Liked Site is excellent and the staff are 5 star. Recommended

Disliked I bought 2 bags of Logs for the fire pit and they hissed and smoked even though I used 3 packs of fire starters. Partly burnt logs and very Smokey atmosphere spoiled what was a fantastic stay.
Bring your own dry logs

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, very much much appreciated. Not sure what I can say about the logs, other than they are bought in from a reputable company and this is the first time in 8 years that somebody has not been satisfied with their purchase. Hopefully fully we will see you again in the future.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
