  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the national park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive) or climb Eryri's mountains. If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few balls as you go, head to the golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

What customers say

Pen Y Bont is highly praised for its excellent, immaculately clean facilities, particularly the modern shower and toilet blocks. Guests consistently highlight the friendly and helpful staff, the beautiful location with easy walking access to Bala Lake and town, and the well-maintained, spacious pitches. While most visitors had no significant dislikes, some noted occasional road noise on pitches near the entrance or main road, and occasional queues for facilities during peak times. WiFi connectivity was also mentioned as being variable. Many reviewers expressed their intention to return.

Little Green shepherd's hut

Liked The campsite was very clean and welcoming. The spaces were very organised. The little Shepard's hut was lovely, with quite a few things in for a small hut. The shower and toilet block immaculate and very up to date, and the eco friendly shower wash, shampoo and conditioner was a very welcome added extra.

Disliked The little Shepard's hut is in a secluded area, which is lovely, but right next to the main road

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the cleanliness of the campsite, the well-organised pitches, and the comfort of the Little Green Shepherd's Hut. It's also wonderful to know that the shower facilities and our eco-friendly toiletries helped make your stay even more enjoyable.

We also appreciate your feedback about the Shepherd's Hut's location. While many guests enjoy its secluded setting, we understand that being close to the main road may not suit everyone's preferences. We hope the peaceful surroundings and convenient location still allowed you to have a relaxing stay.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. We hope to welcome you back again in the future.

6M fully-serviced hardstanding campervan pitch

Liked Beautiful clean and tidy site with generous pitches and excellent facilities.
Friendly staff at check in.
Site is just a few minutes walk to Bala lake and 10-15 walk into Bala itself.

Disliked Not an issue for us but poor wi-fi signal on pitch 16.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated. Sorry about the wifi as it has been upgraded over the winter with many point dotted around the park so it shouldn't have been an issue but so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us despite this!

Disliked No tv signal

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated. Sorry you couldn't get a tv signal this is unusual as we have good reception with both the mast and satellite dish either side of the park. Hopefully we will see you again in the future.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
