  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Branwen shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: The site was beautiful and incredibly clean. The views are fantastic, the lambs come right up to the fence so you can really watch them play. The shepherds hut was lovely and clean and very welcoming. There is nothing bad to say about this place what so ever. The site staff were friendly and so helpful. We will be returning as soon as possible.

Disliked: The bed was a little hard for me but really that’s just down to person al preference and it was easily fixed by me sleeping on the spare quilt. Not really an issue at all just something to be aware of.

From the manager: Thank you so much Sara, we're so glad you enjoyed you time with us and hope to see you again soon!

Fully-serviced hardstanding campervan pitch (medium)

Liked: I've stayed here over the years and it's improved over time. The campsite is orderly, clean and well managed without being clinical. Toilets very modern and well maintained. Great location near Bala town.

Disliked: The camper sluice was a bit smelly round the toilet block.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Super clean campsite, extremely friendly staff and guests at the campsite. Travelled with our 18 month old and it was her first time camping and the people we met were so lovely asking if we needed milk for our daughter etc as we were in a tentbox and didn’t have a kitchen like most of the people there with caravans. Would highly recommend beautiful site close to the town super clean just a really nice site.

From the manager: Thank you so much Rebecca! We're so glad you all enjoyed your stay with us and found everyone to be so helpful 😊 we hope to welcome you back again very soon!

Little Green shepherd's hut

Liked: Great hut, with everything we needed. We glamp often as I don't drive, having half the kit. Having a fire, kettle and cups, lil fridge was perfect for our needs. The hut isn't too far from the toilet/shower block.
The site manager was the best, very helpful lady thank you Janice 😊

Disliked: The road into the site is quite near, but it didn't bother us too much.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Jade! It was lovely having you here to stay and we hope to see you again!

8M fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Really impressed with the overall quality of the site. Very clean site with well maintained garden/ play areas. Toilets very clean will be coming back.

Disliked: The entrance gate could do with widening as nearly caught the side of the caravan when entering.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review Nick, we're so pleased you enjoyed your time with us and look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

We will keep the suggestion of widening the entrance gate in mind!

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
