Clwydian Holidays: Overview of the site with views of the Clwydian Range (AONB) in the distance

General

  • Peaceful farm site with stunning views of the Clwydian Range
  • A 20-minute drive from Moel Famau; just under an hour from the coast
  • Well-equipped shared kitchen, plus firepits and chimineas to hire

Peaceful? Scenic? Very much so. This Denbighshire site is a place to settle down at for both, with added views out over the Clwydian Range Area of Natural Beauty.

The vibe is decidedly rural at Clwydian Holidays, a relaxed and spacious site 15 minutes’ drive from Ruthin – as you might expect from a site on a family-run working farm. Days can be easily filled with walks, mountain bike outings, watersports, fishing and other such outdoorsy antics, while evenings on site are a prime time to light up a barbecue or cuddle up by a firepit or chiminea (both available to hire on site) while aiming your gaze up at the starry skies (fingers crossed for cloudless nights…)

At times when it’s not barbecue weather (it’s Wales, it can happen…), retreat to the custom-built kitchen, which has been kitted out with an oven, hob, fridge, toaster and kettle, plus a dining table for indoor eats.

Also on site are plenty of open space for kids to run about and play games, plus a toilet block with three showers and a wash basin area.

Lovely friendly welcome from the helpful owners. The satnav took be straight there with the postcode. The site is in a beautiful situation with great views. There is a lovely dog walk through a field down to a stream. The facilities were excellent with a well equipped kitchen and a lovely clean shower block. It is quite a small private site with plenty of space between pods and tents. There was only a gentle slope on the tent pitch. There was short grass with no cuttings around. It was lovely to see the chickens about.
This didn't bother me particularly but a point to note is that there was intermittently poor or no phone signal, and no wifi (may be this is a good thing!)

Brilliant weekend away despite the Welsh weather. Raymond and Rose are excellent hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay as wonderful as can be. Plenty of space for pitching our tent and utterly stunning views! The kitchen and toilets were spotless too! We'll definitely be back again soon!

This was a nice quite camp site that only has 3 tent pitches and 4 pods.
What I liked about it was a great quality toilet / shower block and an added bonus of a fully fitted kitchen area that has microwave / sink etc for food prep or to use as washing facilities.
The Hosts Ray and Rose were very friendly and for a small fee bring you a fire pit and wood with a starter block.

What an absolute pleasure it was to stay at Clywidian …27/08/2021

What an absolute pleasure it was to stay at Clywidian Wigwams. Ray the owner makes the stay so much more personal!

With only 4 wigwams and 3 tent pitches it's a very small site, but don't let that put you off, it's a lovely little site to stay on. Ray greeted us when we arrived and showed us around the site and the wigwam, which made finding what we needed that little bit easier. He's available whenever you need him, and nothing is too much to ask. If he can help, then he will!

There's a nice little walk into the woods with some idilic views and a couple of rope swings for the kids, which ours absolutely loved! The views from the wigwam of the surrounding area are breathtaking, you are literally able to see for miles and miles!

The wigwam was very clean and presentable when we arrived and was perfect for us to settle down in from a long journey straight away. The whole site and amenities are extremely clean including the kitchen area and showers.

Overall we had a fantastic experience at Clywidian Wigwams, made so much better by Ray's character. I'd 110% recommend it to any family and friends to stay at should they be looking to go to this area of Wales!

    Thanks for your hospitality Ray!

Local attractions

It’s a fair guess to assume you’ve come to this part of the world to get your fill of fresh air… so start your sojourn with a stroll in the Clwydian Range AONB, which surrounds the site, or set off for the Snowdonia National Park (half an hour away by car). Should you wish to scale Snowdon, it’ll take you an hour or so to drive to one of the starting points.

More excited by the mountain biking option? Make off to Moel Famau (20 minutes’ drive), the Llandegla Forest (half an hour) or Coed y Brenin Forest Park (an hour). Llyn Brenig (35 minutes) is a fab spot for fishing, and there’s wilder water to tackle with rafting and gorge walking trips from Llangollen (half an hour). Rather just view the waters? Take a scenic trip on the Bala Lake Railway (40 minutes).

If your Wales trip isn’t complete without a castle and a beach, those can be sorted with an outing to grand medieval pile Chirk Castle (40 minutes) and the sandy beach at Talacre (55 minutes). Llandudno, a bit further along the coast (an hour’s drive from the farm) is another fab spot for a beach day – ride the cable car up to the top of the Great Orme headland, then paddle in the sea or bimble around Bodnant Gardens, a couple of miles outside town.
