An autumn day on site

  • Peaceful farm site with stunning views of the Clwydian Range
  • A 20-minute drive from Moel Famau; just under an hour from the coast
  • Well-equipped shared kitchen, plus firepits and chimineas to hire
Peaceful? Scenic? Very much so. This Denbighshire site is a place to settle down at for both, with added views out over the Clwydian Range Area of Natural Beauty. The vibe is decidedly rural at Clwydian Holidays, a relaxed and spacious site 15 minutes’ drive from Ruthin – as you might expect from a site on a family-run working farm. Days can be easily filled with walks, mountain bike outings, watersports, fishing and other such outdoorsy antics, while evenings on site are a prime time to light up a barbecue or cuddle up by a firepit or chiminea (both available to hire on site) while aiming your gaze up at the starry skies (fingers crossed for cloudless nights…) At times when it’s not barbecue weather (it’s Wales, it can happen…), retreat to the custom-built kitchen, which has been kitted out with an oven, hob, fridge, toaster and kettle, plus a dining table for indoor eats. Also on site are plenty of open space for kids to run about and play games, plus a toilet block with three showers and a wash basin area.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked One of the best campsites I've ever spent a night at. Beautifully located in a remote and very quiet area, surrounded by beautiful nature and beautiful views. The campsite is not large but that's its advantage, thanks to which there are no crowds. All facilities on site, very well-equipped kitchen, stove, microwave, pots, glasses, plates, everything to prepare a meal. Toilets and showers very clean and spacious, unlimited access to water. Additional building (play room) where you can spend your time or charge your phone.

Disliked There is no WIFI, which is unfortunately the basis of functioning these days. On the other hand, if you want to cut yourself off from the world, then this will definitely be an advantage for you.

Camping pod

Liked Stayed here for a couple of days (was originally only going to be one night, but we loved it so much we decided to stay for two!), and upon arrival we were immediately welcomed by Ray and Rose like family. The accommodation (we stayed in the pods, pod 3 to be specific) was exactly as pictures show. The location was superb, on a working farm, but one of the most peaceful places we've been to in a while.
They were even fine with us having our cat with us, and she had an blast exploring and hassling the sheep (just kidding!).
We can't thank our hosts enough, the stay was absolutely wonderful and I know for sure if we're ever in the area again, we'll be making sure to stay there!

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked I received a warm welcome from Ray and Rose on arriving at their lovely little camp site. What a wonderful couple they are!
The site was just what I hoped it would be - serene, idyllic setting, clean and perfect for what I wanted. Oh and no WiFi or phone signal which I was glad of to really switch off!
As an artist, I came to paint for 2 days, and the views and isolation did not disappoint.
The facilities were perfect - a lovely shower and toilet block, a perfectly equipped kitchen and an indoor room to relax if needed. The grass was mowed, and it was so pristine and tidy.
I chose to camp Wed - Fri as it was quieter, as with a lot of campsites, more groups and children seem to go at the weekend. This was just my preference.
Ray and Rose were so hospitable, and I will absolutely be returning very soon!

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked The site was beautifully situated, great views of the hills and you can see Moel Famau in the distance.
We were greeted by the host Raymond who I have to say made you feel very welcome. He showed us the facilities and was good to chat too.
The toilets were spotless and fresh and well equipped. Kitchen the same. They even have a village hall with plenty of board games and seating.
Really enjoyed the stay, packing up to leave Raymond came to say Hello and told us there was no rush which was really nice. 100% will be back in the near future.

Disliked Not the sites fault but zero signal on o2. Luckily my daughter was on EE, so I topped her up and we were able to make calls, use the Internet no problem.

Liked Brilliant hosts, fantastic location, spot on accommodation!

Everything is well thought out and the two hosts were very nice and approachable (had a good chat with them a couple times!) nothing is to much trouble for them. Everything there required to have a good break away.

Facilities were immaculate and all in good order, I stayed in a pod that was spotless and well equipped!

Very secure so no issues leaving my motorbike out over night which was nice too.

Was that good I extended my stay for an extra night and will certainly be back in the near future!

Disliked Nothing!

Local attractions

It’s a fair guess to assume you’ve come to this part of the world to get your fill of fresh air… so start your sojourn with a stroll in the Clwydian Range AONB, which surrounds the site, or set off for the Snowdonia National Park (half an hour away by car). Should you wish to scale Snowdon, it’ll take you an hour or so to drive to one of the starting points. More excited by the mountain biking option? Make off to Moel Famau (20 minutes’ drive), the Llandegla Forest (half an hour) or Coed y Brenin Forest Park (an hour). Llyn Brenig (35 minutes) is a fab spot for fishing, and there’s wilder water to tackle with rafting and gorge walking trips from Llangollen (half an hour). Rather just view the waters? Take a scenic trip on the Bala Lake Railway (40 minutes). If your Wales trip isn’t complete without a castle and a beach, those can be sorted with an outing to grand medieval pile Chirk Castle (40 minutes) and the sandy beach at Talacre (55 minutes). Llandudno, a bit further along the coast (an hour’s drive from the farm) is another fab spot for a beach day – ride the cable car up to the top of the Great Orme headland, then paddle in the sea or bimble around Bodnant Gardens, a couple of miles outside town.
