Overview of the site with views of the Clwydian Range (AONB) in the distance

General

  • Peaceful farm site with stunning views of the Clwydian Range
  • A 20-minute drive from Moel Famau; just under an hour from the coast
  • Well-equipped shared kitchen, plus firepits and chimineas to hire

Peaceful? Scenic? Very much so. This Denbighshire site is a place to settle down at for both, with added views out over the Clwydian Range Area of Natural Beauty.

The vibe is decidedly rural at Clwydian Wigwams and Campsite, a relaxed and spacious site 15 minutes’ drive from Ruthin – as you might expect from a site on a family-run working farm. Days can be easily filled with walks, mountain bike outings, watersports, fishing and other such outdoorsy antics, while evenings on site are a prime time to light up a barbecue or cuddle up by a firepit or chiminea (both available to hire on site) while aiming your gaze up at the starry skies (fingers crossed for cloudless nights…)

At times when it’s not barbecue weather (it’s Wales, it can happen…), retreat to the custom-built kitchen, which has been kitted out with an oven, hob, fridge, toaster and kettle, plus a dining table for indoor eats.

Also on site are plenty of open space for kids to run about and play games, plus a toilet block with three showers and a wash basin area.

Remote and peaceful location - close to nature but with modern amenities. Used as a base for motorcycle touring of Snowdonia. Secure and remote made for very relaxing 3 days.
With just 4 pods on site, it felt intimate yet private.
Facilities in excellent state of repair and very clean throughout the site.
Portable log fires added a real outdoor camping touch.

Tranquil getaway, with beautiful craggy scenery around to walk dogs. Good facilities for cooking in kitchen and showers very clean. Raymond and Rose perfect hosts who couldn't do enough to help. Lovely to have all the basics in the pod as well, and the option to have a firepit anytime. Enjoyed visiting the coast as well as Llyn Brenig reservoir this time. We will be back.

The site was small and quiet, remote enough that there wasn't even traffic noise - naught but the sound of birds and sheep. The shower and toilet facilities were clean, and the kitchen area was very useful with a kettle, microwave, and small oven and grill. The camping pitches were fairly level, and well kept.

We came as a group of walking friends for the weekend. Our host Raymond & Rose could not have been more helpful in their welcoming & throughout our stay. The Pods are splendid & very homely, clean & tidy. 4 of us were camping & and the shower/toilet block along with the kitchen area were great. This is definitely a site we will visit again, thank you The McCoys walking group

Lovely little gem of a campsite in the beautiful Welsh countryside near Ruthin. Just four glamping pods and space for a few tents so ideal for small, self contained groups like we were. Good facilities, spotlessly clean, dog friendly and very helpful and friendly owners. Lots of lovely walks in the area.

Local attractions

It’s a fair guess to assume you’ve come to this part of the world to get your fill of fresh air… so start your sojourn with a stroll in the Clwydian Range AONB, which surrounds the site, or set off for the Snowdonia National Park (half an hour away by car). Should you wish to scale Snowdon, it’ll take you an hour or so to drive to one of the starting points.

More excited by the mountain biking option? Make off to Moel Famau (20 minutes’ drive), the Llandegla Forest (half an hour) or Coed y Brenin Forest Park (an hour). Llyn Brenig (35 minutes) is a fab spot for fishing, and there’s wilder water to tackle with rafting and gorge walking trips from Llangollen (half an hour). Rather just view the waters? Take a scenic trip on the Bala Lake Railway (40 minutes).

If your Wales trip isn’t complete without a castle and a beach, those can be sorted with an outing to grand medieval pile Chirk Castle (40 minutes) and the sandy beach at Talacre (55 minutes). Llandudno, a bit further along the coast (an hour’s drive from the farm) is another fab spot for a beach day – ride the cable car up to the top of the Great Orme headland, then paddle in the sea or bimble around Bodnant Gardens, a couple of miles outside town.

Must see

  • Bodelwyddan Castle (26.8 kilometers)
