Level fully serviced premier pitches at Rockbridge Park
Sunny, level premier pitches at Rockbridge Park

  • Peaceful escape in a dark skies community on the Welsh border
  • Riverside setting a mile from the market town of Presteigne
  • Dog-friendly site; stargazing dome with telescope
Sitting alongside the River Lugg and with views of the hills, Rockbridge Park is a super spot for a relaxing break away from busy everyday life. This small family-run site on the Wales-England border is within easy reach of days out around the countryside, plus the villages and towns of Powys and beyond.
When not roaming the region, spend time lying back on site with your nose in a book, fishing in the river or setting off on strolls nearby. Even a wander around the site has its rewards – look out for the dragonfly and wind sculptures, then relax by the waterfall while you take in the views. Four-legged friends are welcome to join you here too – they’ll be able to scamper around at the secure dog walk or accompany you on one of the many trails running from the park. And don’t worry about them getting into muddy puddles – a dog wash back on site will take care of that. Facilities for human guests are nicely thought out too, with wifi, hot showers, a launderette and a fridge among the provisions. The highlight, however, surely has to be the stargazing dome – kitted out with a telescope and bean bags, it’s a great spot to take advantage of Rockbridge being in a ‘dark skies community’. Heading out, it’s a five-minute drive to Presteigne, a traditional Welsh market town with a good selection of pubs, restaurants, takeaways, cafés and shops (most of them dog-friendly). For other places to visit nearby, chat to the team on site – they’ve always got lots of top tips to dish out.

What customers say

Rockbridge Park offers a peaceful retreat with spacious, well-maintained pitches, many by the river. Facilities, including toilets, showers, and a dog wash, are consistently praised for cleanliness. The staff are frequently described as friendly and helpful. Guests appreciate the scenic location and nearby walking routes. While most visitors have an excellent experience, a few have noted issues with shower temperature control and occasional noise from other guests.

Electric grass pitch (riverside)

Liked We loved our stay here, beautiful site, well kept, big pitches and a nice open site. Toilets, showers and washing up room was always kept really clean. There is a doggy wash room on site - which we loved. Also industrial sized washing machine and tumble dryer which we thought was very reasonably priced. Our son (5yrs) spent many happy hours paddling around in the river. The campsite had a very friendly, chilled vibe about it and by 21:30/22:00 every night until around 8:30am every morning it was as good as silent with the exception of hearing the wildlife outside.

Disliked We didn’t dislike anything about our stay here and can’t wait to come back again.
Suggestions for improvements would be the addition of a small park/ play area. Nothing fancy but just something else children can entertain themselves on. Second suggestion would be a small shop on site to purchase the essentials given the distance to other local shops.
These being said are merely just suggestions and would not put us off from rebooking!

Electric grass pitch (riverside)

Liked Really excellent facilities, all kept very clean. Nice friendly welcome and information leaflet about site and local area. Beautiful unspoilt area. Wifi on site which was a real bonus.

Disliked With the benefit of hindsight I would have selected a hard standing pitch as I visited in school holidays (single traveller in campervan) and the grass pitch area was mainly occupied by families, which was fine but not as peaceful as some other areas of the site. I was attracted by the idea of riverside camping. There is actually a low fence between the pitches and the river and a 'riverside walk' which is accessed further up the site, which wasn't what I was expecting although I can see why that's been done.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Good Afternoon Ruth,

Thank you for your comments, we are glad you felt welcomed on arrival. We are sorry you felt needed to score us lower due to hindsight, We have the fence there to allow those backing onto the river some barrier from guests taking in the wonderful riverside walks.

Best Wishes
The team @ Discover Parks.

Liked Warm, 'on-the-ball' welcome at reception and helpful, friendly staff
Super site
Spacious pitches
Excellent facilities
Wonderful location (riverside pitch)
Walks in every direction from site

Disliked Disconnecting my WiFi connection before checkout time of 11 am after a four-night stay was a surprise and disappointing! Especially as the internet would have been useful arranging onward travel and accommodation plans! 😔

Electric grass pitch (riverside)

Liked This is the best campsite I have ever been to. It’s quiet, very clean and reception staff were polite, helpful, knowledgeable of the area and just amazing! Ice cream only at reception, there were no onsite shop which actually was ok and unique. If you drive less then 2 miles there’s a little shop with your essentials. There was always hot water for the showers, the shower cubicles weren’t wash rooms like other campsites they were actual glass cubicles so that when you came out within you room you had a dry area to stand with seat and handwash basin which for us was amazing! We were pitched by the river which was calming especially late evening and early morning hearing the trickling of water.
Plenty of walks around for my lab and boys loved going in river to play when we had the heat wave. Very refreshing!
For the first time we felt safe to leave camping chairs outside overnight and days out as did other fellow campers.
We were there when the eclipse and comets and the shooting stars was an amazing spectacle.

Local attractions

Presteigne is a compact spot but it’s well worth swinging by for a look at The Judge's Lodging, an award-winning museum five minutes’ drive away that gives an insight into the grandeur of the masters’ lives on the top floors versus the servants who lived down below. Not so much further on is Knighton (10 minutes) with its community and arts centres for rainy days, along with a local railway link and access to Glyndŵr's Way for wanders along a path named after a Welsh legend. Another 10 minutes (20 from the park) from there is the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre for a glimpse of animals ranging from miniature horses to nocturnal birds. Top towns are scattered around this rural region too: think Leominster (30 minutes away) for sights like grand Berrington Hall (40 minutes) with its views over to the Black Mountains; the famed book and festival town of Hay-on-Wye (35 minutes); or Ludlow to see the castle and Tudor buildings or peruse posh boutiques (40 minutes).
