Pitching field

  • Relaxed and rural dog-friendly site with plenty of space and seclusion
  • A 10-minute walk to Llangammarch Wells and its train station
  • Heart of Wales Line Trail and the Via Beata route within 10 minutes
Fancy opting for something a little more offbeat than usual for your next trip to Mid Wales? Enter the eclectic Irfon Valley Pods and Camping, part of a smallholding scattered with curios collected by the owner. Free-roaming chickens, geese and ducks are also to be seen in the adjacent field at this park a 10-minute walk from the centre of Llangammarch Wells. In fact, it’s all about the relaxed rural pursuits here with guests taking on activities including walking in the wildlife-rich surrounds, dining alfresco on the site’s picnic tables and cosying up around the large campfire with eyes turned skyward in search of the red kites that often fly overhead. As for travelling to this Powys park, those without a car will be chuffed to know they can ask the driver of the bus from Builth Wells (15 minutes’ drive) to drop them right at the front door. The entrance of the site is easy to spot – just look out for the couple of cutout giraffes peering over the fence. A railway station is half a mile away too and the village has access points to two long-distance footpaths: the 140-mile Heart of Wales Line Trail and the Via Beata route from Lowestoft in Suffolk to St Davids in Pembrokeshire. There's a smart loo block on site with three toilets, a shower and three washing-up sinks. There's also a communal room with games and a shared fridge, microwave and kettle. There's also an outdoor cold shower.

Daffodil camping pod

Liked: Lovely quiet campsite. Lots of quirky little things that the kids enjoyed, including the museum of nothing impaticular and the forest walk. The pod is definitely value for money, much bigger and better equipped than others we've stayed in for the same price. The hosts where very friendly and helpful. Its also a perfect area for star watching.

Disliked: Nothing.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review Jess. It's good to hear you liked the museum, and it's good that you got to see the stars. They are tremendous when the clouds go!

Daisy cabin

Liked: Peaceful and tons of space, daisy cabin was brill,. Kids loved the outdoors games shed filled with gear. Geese, chickens everywhere, owners were brill and thanks to the owner Gerry for the borrow of the adjustable spanner for my gas bottle👍👍. Absolutely deffo visit again.👍, thanks for the great stay😁

Disliked: Not really a dislike but we fell lucky on a quiet few days but I imagine if busy the one shower would be a struggle so if there was a few outdoor showers that would be brill👍 maybe a second fridge and maybe a freezer. Not really dislikes more opinion. Brill site…👍

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review Carl. Your comments are helpful. I will be working on the planned 2nd shower over the winter, and will be re-vamping the out door shower that currently is misbehaving! Points noted about freezer too. Thank you.

Really good area for families, peaceful and clean. Would stay again xx

Daisy cabin

Liked: Beautiful Grounds, extremely peaceful. Cute little chickens and geese. Lovely hosts andthe camping area is so safe for young children secluded from the rest ofthe farm

Disliked: Lack of food cooking facilities. We brought as much food as we could but no BBQ area / tools or space to cook food. There's a small communal fridge which was a life safer but if the site was full I could imagine there to be not much space. A pizza oven or bbq area would be a great addition

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review - we're glad you enjoyed the chickens and geese! Thank you too for your comments re cooking, which are valid. However, the following points are pertinent to the issue: We have planning permission for a communal building that will have space & facilities for food preparation, which we hope will be started early next year. Currently each pod has a picnic table and a fire-pit, and there is a camp fire on site for anyone to use. We have found that when we supplied a BBQ, it was abused and no-one cleaned it after use! Food hygiene is an issue, so we decided that it is safer for people to bring their own. We also sell small BBQ's, single gas burners, wood and charcoal. Thank you, Jerry & Paula

Local attractions

Stunning views are to be had at every turn on short drives to spots like Llanwrtyd Wells (10 minutes), home of the laughter-inducing World Bog Snorkelling Championships and Man versus Horse Marathon. Builth Wells (15 minutes) is also known for hosting a famed event: Europe's largest agricultural show, the Royal Welsh Show. Not about in the summer while it’s on? Embark on an escapade to the Elan Valley (35 minutes) instead for dawdles among the dams and lakes that supply water to the Midlands. The Brecon Beacons National Park is around the same distance away for wanders in some of Wales’ prettiest landscapes; closer by (10 minutes) are forays to the forest of Crychan, which also hosts car rallies and horse riding events.
