  • Relaxed and rural dog-friendly site with plenty of space and seclusion
  • A 10-minute walk to Llangammarch Wells and its train station
  • Heart of Wales Line Trail and the Via Beata route within 10 minutes
Fancy opting for something a little more offbeat than usual for your next trip to Mid Wales? Enter the eclectic Irfon Valley Pods and Camping, part of a smallholding scattered with curios collected by the owner. Free-roaming chickens, geese and ducks are also to be seen in the adjacent field at this park a 10-minute walk from the centre of Llangammarch Wells. In fact, it’s all about the relaxed rural pursuits here with guests taking on activities including walking in the wildlife-rich surrounds, dining alfresco on the site’s picnic tables and cosying up around the large campfire with eyes turned skyward in search of the red kites that often fly overhead. As for travelling to this Powys park, those without a car will be chuffed to know they can ask the driver of the bus from Builth Wells (15 minutes’ drive) to drop them right at the front door. The entrance of the site is easy to spot – just look out for the couple of cutout giraffes peering over the fence. A railway station is half a mile away too and the village has access points to two long-distance footpaths: the 140-mile Heart of Wales Line Trail and the Via Beata route from Lowestoft in Suffolk to St Davids in Pembrokeshire. There's a smart loo block on site with three toilets, a shower and three washing-up sinks. There's also a communal room with games and a shared fridge, microwave and kettle. There's also an outdoor cold shower.

Daffodil camping pod

Liked Stayed in the daisy cabin, the bed was comfy and the cabin was clean, and cooked dinner over the firepit, all that was needed. On top of plenty of power sockets to recharge and very warm room during the night, the wash block, toilet and showers were very clean and well presented offering washing up liquid and scrubbies as an extra touch. Site was very welcoming of dogs and the hospitality was great

Disliked Would have like access to a mop as the site was a little muddy due to rain and some improvement works, and felt bad about leaving loads of muddy paw prints in the cabin

From the manager: Thank you for your review Jerry.
The rain has now stopped!
Sorry your stay coincided with a footpath installation in the rain. Thank you for offering to mop up, but that is for us, not our guests!

Powered grass and gravel campervan campsite

Liked Nice quiet site with v friendly owners. Lots of hot water. Easy to walk from site into Llanfammarch Wells or longer trails into countryside. Nice to have a table and firepit for each spot and firewood to buy.

Disliked Shower rooms were chilly. Early morning geese chorus wasn't expected!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi. Thank you for your review.
The good news is that the shower rooms are having a heater installed in the next couple of weeks!
The bad news is that 2 of the geese are sitting on eggs, which makes the rest of them pretty vocal at odd times through the day, instead of just at the morning feed time.
There should be some pretty goslings soon though...!

Very nice stay, will return in camper van or Car

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely campsite with great facilities. Honesty system shop is great for picking up supplies as needed. Easy to find as well

Disliked Steep drive up an uneven path which was a bit hair raising for the lower cars in our group!

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
We're glad you found the honesty shop useful.
Stone has now been delivered to even up the drive, so hopefully we will be able to complete that soon.

Local attractions

Stunning views are to be had at every turn on short drives to spots like Llanwrtyd Wells (10 minutes), home of the laughter-inducing World Bog Snorkelling Championships and Man versus Horse Marathon. Builth Wells (15 minutes) is also known for hosting a famed event: Europe's largest agricultural show, the Royal Welsh Show. Not about in the summer while it’s on? Embark on an escapade to the Elan Valley (35 minutes) instead for dawdles among the dams and lakes that supply water to the Midlands. The Brecon Beacons National Park is around the same distance away for wanders in some of Wales’ prettiest landscapes; closer by (10 minutes) are forays to the forest of Crychan, which also hosts car rallies and horse riding events.
