  • Scenic family-friendly site in the stunning Scottish Borders
  • Jedburgh, Galashiels within 30 mins' drive; Edinburgh within an hour
  • Golf course, putting green, bar-restaurant, playground, woodland walks
Craving spectacular scenery and a peaceful stay far from the edge of nowhere? Head along to Lilliardsedge Holiday Park, a family-friendly site 15 minutes’ drive from the Scottish town of Jedburgh and 25 from the shops and restaurants of Galashiels. At Lilliardsedge, there’s more than 100 acres of scenic Scottish Borders to explore on site, with grassy fields and natural woodland walks giving guests plenty of ground to cover, and a nine-hole golf course and 18-hole putting green enticing budding Ryder Cup players to take in the views from the links. Of course, it’s very much worth going on some broader explores hereabouts to make the absolute most of that stunning Borders country – wander off site to stroll around nearby lochs or pick up the 62-mile St Cuthbert’s Way long-distance route just five minutes away for viewsome rambles through the region. Stay energised for all this adventuring and club swinging by calling in to the Tavern (the onsite bar-restaurant) for lunch, dinner and Sunday carvery, or to have a few quiet (locally brewed) pints, and stick around on weekend nights for bands, bingo, karaoke and pub quizzes.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (solo)

Liked: Toilet and shower facilities in both areas for tents etc and the main section. Nice large camping section for tents/cars/bikes etc as pretty flat throughout. Decent shop and amenities with large bar and restaurant although I've not used that yet. Overall cleanliness was good. Never been able to use any WiFi but it's not an issue using EE network there.
You could spend a fortune there eating and drinking but similarly having a budget overnight tent is relatively inexpensive.
Local towns are a short distance for anything you'll need.

Disliked: The overflowing bucket should have been emptied at the tent area when the shower/toilets were cleaned. You could do a lot more on that refuse point doing forward. Lucky there was only 20 camping or it could have been very messy. Dogs mess. Every time I've stayed, there's always been one at the trees when campers walk through to main facilities/exercise area. I'm a dog owner myself and know when any of my dogs go when they're on lead. But that's the point, folk let them off and then look at their phones or it's dark and don't care. The middle tap still leaks in the gents...
Lastly, a £1 hike for the minimum stay.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked: Great wide open camping field with great toilet and shower facilities. Only negative is the field is exposed so can be windy.

Disliked: Exposed site so affected by strong winds.

Liked: The staff were friendly and helpful all weekend. Toilets and other facilities were immaculate, and the site looked as tidy as ever. Camping area well maintained. Excellent range in the site shop, reasonably priced too. Saturday breakfast and Sunday lunch were knockout!

Disliked: Can't think of anything to dislike.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (four person)

Liked: For camping lovely flat ground, with well looked after grass and stunning views. Clean but basic facilities for campers though there are nicer showers further on site. Nice play park for younger kids. Overall site is well maintained and has a lovely bar, shop and food vans.Staff are really friendly and helpful too.

Disliked: Pub isn't dog friendly so in awful weather we had to sit outside to eat. They do provide shelter outside, which is better but heaters are broken. A games room would be good for older kids which is why marked down slightly.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked: The park is beautifully green, quiet and well maintained, with clean facilities. Great that is has a restaurant on site which added a nice touch to our stay! The surrounding area is lovely, perfect for a peaceful gatheway.
However, the tent camping area can get quite windy on blustery days, which was a bit challenging- windbreaks are a must! Overall, a great spot, we'd return and would recommend it!

Disliked: Downside: the tent sites can get seriously windy

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked: All the staff I encountered were lovely. The on site bar and restaurant was excellent. The Sunday Carvery was a magnificent feast with lots of choice. The shop was surprisingly well stocked for such a small space. The toilets were very clean.

Disliked: The camping showers were disappointing. A couple of them were only a dribble. They're quite cramped and the water doesn't stay on very long so you're basically washing with one hand or else you've to keep turning the sink on to turn the shower on!

Local attractions

Think of Scotland and you likely think of (among other things) castles, whiskey and golf. The latter is nicely provided on site, but there can never be too much of a good thing... Perfect that swing on a handful of courses within easy reach, including one in the village of St Boswells, 10 minutes’ drive from the site. This part of the country should also satisfy even the most ardent castle fans too (as long as they remember to check opening dates): the 16th-century Ferniehirst is 15 minutes away; Scotland’s largest inhabited Castle, Floors, is 25 minutes from base; and the former love nest of Mary Queen of Scots and the fourth Earl of Bothwell, Hermitage Castle, is reachable in less than an hour. Those keen to stay in the past should have a poke around the ruins of Melrose and Jedburgh abbeys, both within 20 minutes, or stick to statelier affairs at Abbotsford and Monteviot within the same radius. Active types might prefer to opt for wanders around Harestanes (10 minutes) or swing through the trees at Go Ape Peebles and pedal down precipitous slopes at the 7stanes trails at Glentress, both 50 minutes away. Gin quaffers will want to pour themselves over to the Born in the Borders visitor centre 25 minutes from base but, when it comes to the uisge beatha (that’s the water of life, or whiskey for all the non-Gaelic speakers), a trip to Edinburgh comes highly recommended for tours of the whiskey museum (plus more museums, castles and shops, of course).
