  • Scenic family-friendly site in the stunning Scottish Borders
  • Jedburgh, Galashiels within 30 mins' drive; Edinburgh within an hour
  • Golf course, putting green, bar-restaurant, playground, woodland walks
Craving spectacular scenery and a peaceful stay far from the edge of nowhere? Head along to Lilliardsedge Holiday Park, a family-friendly site 15 minutes’ drive from the Scottish town of Jedburgh and 25 from the shops and restaurants of Galashiels. At Lilliardsedge, there’s more than 100 acres of scenic Scottish Borders to explore on site, with grassy fields and natural woodland walks giving guests plenty of ground to cover, and a nine-hole golf course and 18-hole putting green enticing budding Ryder Cup players to take in the views from the links. Of course, it’s very much worth going on some broader explores hereabouts to make the absolute most of that stunning Borders country – wander off site to stroll around nearby lochs or pick up the 62-mile St Cuthbert’s Way long-distance route just five minutes away for viewsome rambles through the region. Stay energised for all this adventuring and club swinging by calling in to the Tavern (the onsite bar-restaurant) for lunch, dinner and Sunday carvery, or to have a few quiet (locally brewed) pints, and stick around on weekend nights for bands, bingo, karaoke and pub quizzes.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (six person)

Liked Lovely welcome. The site itself is well maintained and a nice size. We were the only tent on the site so had the pick of the field. We pitched closer to the toilet/washing up area which were st the end of the field. The toilet block was well maintained. Only 2x washing up sinks not sure how that would work when it’s busy.

Disliked We were not fans of NO hot water to wash up or in the toilet block to wash hands. Didn’t even try the shower out of curiosity. For this reason we only stayed the one night instead of 3 we are soft campers and like access to hot water without booking our kettle. The site was rather noisy due to the road location. It’s quite a busy road and we prefer the sound of wildlife when camping. Also the tavern is lovely and accommodates dogs outside but when it’s wet I can’t believe there’s no dogs allowed inside. Yes there are umbrellas in the outdoor seating area but still not daft enough to sit outside in the rain.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Good campsite with the option to choose your own pitch, which makes it more flexible than most. Toilets and drinking water are in a convenient spot close to the field. Regular security presence walking round the site definitely showed their commitment to safety for all.

Nice views across the hills, and the site is easy to get to. Also not far from nearby towns, which is useful.

Disliked A few downsides during the stay. Check-in at the bar felt rushed, likely because it was busy, which meant the directions to the pitch weren’t explained clearly. There was also no information given about restaurant or food hut opening times, so arriving later made it unclear what was still available.

I had a dog with me, but aside from it being noted on the map, no guidance was provided on where dogs were allowed. Because of that, I didn’t end up using the bar or food areas, and I only later found out from other campers that there’s a nearby walk that would’ve been useful to know about.

Signage to the camping field could be improved; I initially ended up in the touring pitches, which were very crowded, and only found the correct area with help from other campers.

Also, on the first evening, the female toilets ran out of toilet paper, so worth being aware of.

Liked The pub is amazing and the food is pretty good. The personnel was lovely too. Remember to make a reservation beforehand, it's very busy.

Disliked Showers were closed and the road nearby is still busy during the evening, but not too noisy.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (six person)

Liked Lots of space when first arrived at campsite and nice views of surrounding country side. Nice shop and the bar restaurant was great and friendly staff. Very nice area and all the accommodations look modern and well kept.

Disliked Showers didn’t really work that great. Playpark facilities closed but there is a new adventure playground due to open soon. Which looks amazing. People pitched very close to us when there was a lot more space in campsite.

Local attractions

Think of Scotland and you likely think of (among other things) castles, whiskey and golf. The latter is nicely provided on site, but there can never be too much of a good thing... Perfect that swing on a handful of courses within easy reach, including one in the village of St Boswells, 10 minutes’ drive from the site. This part of the country should also satisfy even the most ardent castle fans too (as long as they remember to check opening dates): the 16th-century Ferniehirst is 15 minutes away; Scotland’s largest inhabited Castle, Floors, is 25 minutes from base; and the former love nest of Mary Queen of Scots and the fourth Earl of Bothwell, Hermitage Castle, is reachable in less than an hour. Those keen to stay in the past should have a poke around the ruins of Melrose and Jedburgh abbeys, both within 20 minutes, or stick to statelier affairs at Abbotsford and Monteviot within the same radius. Active types might prefer to opt for wanders around Harestanes (10 minutes) or swing through the trees at Go Ape Peebles and pedal down precipitous slopes at the 7stanes trails at Glentress, both 50 minutes away. Gin quaffers will want to pour themselves over to the Born in the Borders visitor centre 25 minutes from base but, when it comes to the uisge beatha (that’s the water of life, or whisky for all the non-Gaelic speakers), a trip to Edinburgh comes highly recommended for tours of the whisky museum (plus more museums, castles and shops, of course).
