  • Scenic family-friendly site in the stunning Scottish Borders
  • Jedburgh, Galashiels within 30 mins' drive; Edinburgh within an hour
  • Golf course, putting green, bar-restaurant, playground, woodland walks
Craving spectacular scenery and a peaceful stay far from the edge of nowhere? Head along to Lilliardsedge Holiday Park, a family-friendly site 15 minutes’ drive from the Scottish town of Jedburgh and 25 from the shops and restaurants of Galashiels. At Lilliardsedge, there’s more than 100 acres of scenic Scottish Borders to explore on site, with grassy fields and natural woodland walks giving guests plenty of ground to cover, and a nine-hole golf course and 18-hole putting green enticing budding Ryder Cup players to take in the views from the links. Of course, it’s very much worth going on some broader explores hereabouts to make the absolute most of that stunning Borders country – wander off site to stroll around nearby lochs or pick up the 62-mile St Cuthbert’s Way long-distance route just five minutes away for viewsome rambles through the region. Stay energised for all this adventuring and club swinging by calling in to the Tavern (the onsite bar-restaurant) for lunch, dinner and Sunday carvery, or to have a few quiet (locally brewed) pints, and stick around on weekend nights for bands, bingo, karaoke and pub quizzes.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (four person)

Liked: Facilities clean, nice to have a bath option, play park is good. Shop handy and nice to have the option of the bar and takeaway if you want. Tent pitch was flat.

Disliked: Did not feel like tents very welcome. Stuck away from facilities, long walk in the night. They have some facilities half ready but it’s not open yet, not under cover. No lights along walkway. It’s just a field - also noisy from the road unless you camp even further away down the field. No walkway to cut through to get to facilities easier

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked: The site was well layed out. The food and drink on site were well done and priced well for what you got, plenty of gluten free options available too. There was entertainment on which is good but not our thing. Lots of walks and things to see close by. The way they delt with problem campers in the middle of the night.

Disliked: Out of the sites control but the farms close by had bird scarers (we think) going off every half an hour. The toilet/shower block in the camping area isn't up and running yet this would've been handy in the freezing cold in the middle of the night. The WiFi didn't reach the camping area and the 4g signal was spotty

Liked: This camp site offers a very large field with amazing views. Main Shower/toilet facilities are always clean and very warm which is a bonus when camping. From the pitching site there is a short walk through a wooded area into the lodge/caravan site. The pub and restaurant provides a very high quality service, the food is delicious whether that be Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. A vast selection of drinks at a very good price. There are also 2 takeaway vans, 1 offering treats and ice cream the other Fish & Chips, burgers and pizzas. There is a shop on site which has everything you may need at a reasonable price. Great for when you have forgot something! Every weekend there is entertainment on catering for both children and adults. Overall a brilliant place to be!

Disliked: The showering facilities located on the camp site itself were closed. Meaning we had to use the main showering facilities located amongst the caravans and lodges. This is at least a 5 minute walk, depending on where your pitch is located. This is the second year this has been closed now, can be problem at night and if you have children.

Liked: Good site , visited before

Disliked: Camping site was very wet and usual toilets / showers were closed, golf course also closed, woken by police at 2.30 am as there was a disturbance on the camp site (not the sites fault but added to the other points it did affect our stay)

Liked: Solitude. Normally this place is busy with campers but not many this weekend. There was still a lot going on in the busy Tavern bar and restaurant. I also explored quiet country roads in the Scottish Borders, on my motorbike, before the rain came. Spirits not dampened though I enjoyed a lovely pint or two to round off the day.

Disliked: Nothing.

Local attractions

Think of Scotland and you likely think of (among other things) castles, whiskey and golf. The latter is nicely provided on site, but there can never be too much of a good thing... Perfect that swing on a handful of courses within easy reach, including one in the village of St Boswells, 10 minutes’ drive from the site. This part of the country should also satisfy even the most ardent castle fans too (as long as they remember to check opening dates): the 16th-century Ferniehirst is 15 minutes away; Scotland’s largest inhabited Castle, Floors, is 25 minutes from base; and the former love nest of Mary Queen of Scots and the fourth Earl of Bothwell, Hermitage Castle, is reachable in less than an hour. Those keen to stay in the past should have a poke around the ruins of Melrose and Jedburgh abbeys, both within 20 minutes, or stick to statelier affairs at Abbotsford and Monteviot within the same radius. Active types might prefer to opt for wanders around Harestanes (10 minutes) or swing through the trees at Go Ape Peebles and pedal down precipitous slopes at the 7stanes trails at Glentress, both 50 minutes away. Gin quaffers will want to pour themselves over to the Born in the Borders visitor centre 25 minutes from base but, when it comes to the uisge beatha (that’s the water of life, or whiskey for all the non-Gaelic speakers), a trip to Edinburgh comes highly recommended for tours of the whiskey museum (plus more museums, castles and shops, of course).
