The grounds are well maintained and clean. The receptionist was very helpful on arrival.

    Disliked:

The £4.99 charge per person for use of the pool i feel is unprecenedented in my over 40 years of using campsites/parks. This made it impossible for a gran who had come with her grandchildren.
The shower was slow draining and i Had to stand in someone else's left over water.

No wifi was disappointing. Used my 4G for messaging and music.

It said dog friendly, but that only meant you could walk around with the dog on a lead. The restaurant bar was not dog friendly and outside was near the smoking corner and no cover - so i had to decamp to go out for food. A 40th birthday party crowd was clearly at the pub and had left their dog howling for several hours in their caravan. The next day people came from outside for a party. I left after one night. i am waiting to hear their feedback on these points.

Not a site we enjoyed as didn't have children and Elsan was awful.28/06/2022

Park areas for children were nice. The pool and jacuzza was warm and good to have the facility. The size of the bar and plenty of gaming machines. Very large site in a green setting and easy to find.

    Disliked:

I'm afraid the sauna, steamroom was out of use and even the showers in the changing rooms had no hot water and tourers were expected to pay to use. Had to return to the motorhome to wash the chlorine off. Signage for grey waste was not found, hookup wasn't next to van so long lead required. Elsan was horrid experience as set up inside a space the size of a disabled loo and backed up somewhat. Very little information given at reception aparr from map and elec trip warning and bar was shut at 9.30pm. Lake was small and a long walk down a hill about a mile or so and surrounded by private caravans so not fair to access between vans really. The grass pitch was turf on hardstanding so not a chance in pegging anything down. Not aware there was wifi, no info.

Sight was very well maintained, lovely staff, and very good facilities.

Service pitch was not in a very nice area, on what was felt like a parking spot overlooking static caravans for sale. Not the best view looking out of your window all day!

Local attractions

You won’t find yourselves thirsting for action at Thurston Manor; there are lots of inspiring places to visit in East Lothian, Berwickshire and beyond.

Peer at the puffins and gawk at the gannets at the Scottish Seabird Centre - you can zoom in on the nesting colonies on the islands (including Bass Rock, home to a gobsmacking 150,000 gannets) using the Centre’s interactive live cameras, or zoom off on a boat trip to see them in the flesh/feathers, along with grey seals and dolphins if you’re lucky.

For more fresh air fun, there are clifftop walks, castle ruins, picnicking and pony trekking across the grassland, woods and salt marshes at John Muir Country Park in nearby Dunbar. Or you could go for a clamber around Tantallon Castle, a majestic fourteenth century stronghold in a photogenic location atop the cliffs overlooking the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock. Not to mention the magnificent golf courses, fishing, horse riding, yachting and water sports in the surrounding area.

Whisky lovers will definitely want to make a pilgrimage to the nearby Glenkinchie Distillery, which has an excellent visitor centre and guided tours as well as tastings (and a discount in the shop is included in the very reasonable entrance fee).

Last but not least, the brilliant and bonny city of Edinburgh is only 25 miles away.....
