Thurston Manor tents non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Plenty of room to pitch a tent. Lots of amenities if that is what you need. Nice and quiet in the evening.

Disliked Couldn't park close enough to tent camping and had to haul stuff up a hill.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (super)

Liked The site was lovely and we drove on to a good pitch with an electric hook up. Staff were really friendly and the evening entertainment was great and although we werent with a young family on this occassion it was so family friendly and i would loce to go back with my grandchildren.

Disliked I am allergic to dogs so struggled with the fact that the bars and resturants were all dog friendly and had carpets.
There seemed to be only a few showers too.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Very clean and tidy within the grounds and where you pitch up. But that’s it.

Disliked The toilets were disgusting on several occasions, from toilets being left full of poo, blocked toilets, children leaving sticky glitter glue over toilets and floors.
Boiler not working so water was freezing cold.
Shower floors covered in grass and mud.
Pitch areas need clearly marking out, not wait to tell you to move after watching you set everything up.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Spacious spaces to pitch. That’s it!

Disliked Overall the place looks rundown. The majority of the arcades for the kids were broken and the ones that were working you couldn’t get any change as that was broken. Unfriendly staff. Dirty toilets

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Enjoyed our meal in the pub and a good nights sleep. Several young children there but were well occupied/ generally well behaved.

Disliked Limited view of the amazing countryside but understandable that planners did not want a caravan site blotting the beautiful area!

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (super)

Liked Clean bathroom blocks and disposal points. Always plenty of loo roll and hand soap. Food in restaurant was really nice. Close to the seaside and in particular whitesands beach, which was very pretty. The kids park area was really good.

Disliked Well…. Not a pleasant or stress free arrival. No signs on arrival for tourers, so we drove too far into the site and got stuck with no where to turn. I ran into the reception to check in and said “where were we meant to be/park and where were the signs etc. she ignored those comments 3 times. No “welcome” etc or apology. So i got the plot info and left the office, we managed to get turned and had to go back to where we came from. Got sent to pitch 13 which was on a slope/hill and a corner!!! Awful place to put a pitch. Was soooooo windy we had to take down our awning after 2 days.
The shop shuts at 5:30pm!?!?! Online it said it shut at 10pm. First visit to restaurant and it was very busy so was told it would be a 30min wait for the food, which we said ok. We ordered at the bar and took a table, was £102!!! £18.95 was for a burger and a few chips and £14.95 for basically one scoop of macaroni and a garlic bread. It was a meal for 4, we had 2 starters and 3 mains and one kids meal. And 4 drinks inc one pint of tennants. We were waiting 40mins then waitress came out and said that there were no halloumi fries left and did we want to choose something else!! So we chose garlic bread. Then the mains came out before the starters and I had to ask for them. Finally it was all there and we couldn’t believe the small portion sizes. On a plus. We did all like the food.
The facilities were a let down. Entertainment area was so unwelcoming the kids wouldn’t go in. They had the kids disco, then the over 18 only bingo then the normal disco. So if u have kids u could go to disco then leave for the bingo then go back for the music etc at 9pm. The pool table was out of order. Several machines in arcade didn’t work. Some were shouting “call an attendant”. Most didn’t give out tickets after playing. There were boys shaking the 10p machines to get the coins to drop and no-one supervising so the alarms were going off and they boys didnt care. The vibe was totally off and my kids felt uncomfortable in there. The ticket machine ate the tickets my daughter did get and didn’t give out a receipt as it said it was jammed. So I waited at bar and told the supervisor guy there and he just shrugged and said “it always does that”!!! So we left. Went swimming! Omg it was awful. Changing rooms (smelling of urine) had 4 cubicles so we had to stand and wait to change as they were full, lockers were so small we couldn’t fit our stuff in. Had to hang up coats and just hope they were still there after. Once you had changed then you had to go back through the reception area with your swimming costume on and into pool area. 🫣 that was embarrassing. pool was dirty and with rough edges and so small it was awkward. Jacuzzi was closed. Sauna you had to go through the office to get into. Lifeguards sat in office on counter tops. Pool had large open areas for the filters and my daughter put her hand in to see what it was and I was like “NO”! the steps were so far into the pool that we both hurt ourselves on them as you couldn’t see cause the water was cloudy!! Other visitors coming right to side of pool to sit and watch. Which was weird.
I felt like it was a good idea for a holiday location but not well ran or thought through. Ps WiFi reception very poor. Ran 4g and used all our data twice.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Swimming pool was really nice and the pool team where really helpful, the park had obviously been recently re done which was great and the shop is very well stocked and not expensive. The site is obviously updating parts as the showers were good but what has been done is not good.

Disliked When we arrived there was no signage to let you know where to go meaning we went the wrong way with a tourer, the pitch we were allocated was extremely steep needing 8 blocks under the rear of the van to get it level and getting on to the pitch is super tight with a large rock preventing spinning in, thank God for the motor mover. Not much for the kids to do arcade very dated and change machines broken so the kids couldn't play, pool table ripped all just felt a bit run down.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed the swimming pool, found the pool team helpful, and appreciated the recent improvements and well-stocked shop. Local attractions

You won’t find yourselves thirsting for action at Thurston Manor; there are lots of inspiring places to visit in East Lothian, Berwickshire and beyond. Peer at the puffins and gawk at the gannets at the Scottish Seabird Centre - you can zoom in on the nesting colonies on the islands (including Bass Rock, home to a gobsmacking 150,000 gannets) using the Centre’s interactive live cameras, or zoom off on a boat trip to see them in the flesh/feathers, along with grey seals and dolphins if you’re lucky. For more fresh air fun, there are clifftop walks, castle ruins, picnicking and pony trekking across the grassland, woods and salt marshes at John Muir Country Park in nearby Dunbar. Or you could go for a clamber around Tantallon Castle, a majestic fourteenth century stronghold in a photogenic location atop the cliffs overlooking the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock. Not to mention the magnificent golf courses, fishing, horse riding, yachting and water sports in the surrounding area. Whisky lovers will definitely want to make a pilgrimage to the nearby Glenkinchie Distillery, which has an excellent visitor centre and guided tours as well as tastings (and a discount in the shop is included in the very reasonable entrance fee). Last but not least, the brilliant and bonny city of Edinburgh is only 25 miles away.....
