Ben Nevis Holiday Park: Beautiful location.

General

  • Peaceful holiday park with fantastic views of Ben Nevis and beyond
  • A five-minute drive from Fort William and the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre
  • Great Glen Way within a 25-minute walk; wifi available on site

The highlight of a trip to the Highlands and Islands? Feasting your eyes on the UK’s tallest mountain range – and that’s exactly what you can do the whole time you’re settling in at the scenic (and aptly named) Ben Nevis Holiday Park.

This well-maintained site in Scotland, set by the River Lochy and with lots of green space for kids to play and grownups to wander, also looks out across the Aonach Mor mountains. It makes a brill base for day trips by car, bike, train or foot in the Lochaber area as it’s just over five minutes’ drive from the centre of Fort William.

Cycling and walking paths are close to this park – including the famed Great Glen Way along the Caledonian Canal (25 minutes’ stroll) – and a selection of shops and restaurants is just down the road. If you’d prefer not to venture far from base to gather supplies, a store on site sells the basics, camping supplies and local produce, while a café and takeaway serve up a range of light bites and drinks.

Other conveniences at this thoughtfully run park include electric hook-ups, a coin-operated laundry room, clean toilets and showers, and laundry amenities. Families and groups are warmly welcomed here for hiking hols (or restful trips).

Nice site, clean facility and friendly staff.24/09/2023

Campsite was clean and grass pitch area was big enough for the amount of guests there. Although the cafe had limited choice the pizza was very nice and staff were very polite and helpfull.

    Disliked:

The site is set up for the static or mobile caravans rather than tents, as the toilets and showers are furthest away from the tent pitches. Seems odd as both static and mobile caravans usually have built in bathrooms. Not really something that can be controlled by the site but worth noting, the tent portion of the site was fairly noisey, party due to guests being loud late into the night however it isn't helped by the late check ins.

Easy to find as it is well sign posted and warm welcome on arrival. Friendly staff and gave me direction to pitch. Easy to find and pitched up and connected in minutes. Nice mix of permanent and new campers and it was very quiet and peaceful. No issues. Shower and toilets clean and all working. A good couple of nights stay and scones from on site shop, magic.

    Disliked:

A bit of a distance into Fort William but there is a bus but doesn't run after dark, taxi required. No on site facility but the Lochy is 30 minutes walk, good place. Only other moan is the shower is on a timer, must be set at 10 seconds before you have to repress button but water nice and hot.

The location, washing/showering facilities fairly clean. Reception welcoming and receptionists humourus.

    Disliked:

The showers, only a rainfall shower, slow running and short burst of water (less than 15 seconds). Other campers not washing the showers after use, there were facilities provided for them to do this. We felt a little over priced for a small campervan. Pitch not level despite being a motorhome pitch.

This was our second visit to Ben Nevis holiday Park and unfortunately this year haas ruined it for us and we probably won’t be back to this site, thee general cleanliness haas majorly decreased since last year, I haave pictures of the shower rooms and the check sheets that wasn’t completed for 3 days! The showers smelt and just in general not clean
anywhere which is such a shame because my first visits last year here I fell in love with the place.. just shows what can change so quick ! Also I checked out 3 days early because I wasn’t happy…

Very friendly reception staff on arrival and explained everything clearly. Site on very good location not far from centre of Fort William. Site has shop plus restaurant which we didn’t use but that was our choice and not for any other reason. Showers toilets all well kept and clean. Views of the mountains from our pitch just amazing. Went to Ben Nevis as well as the famous Skyfall road, James Bond. Went into fort William and used local pub and restaurant within the town. In all lovely site and would return

Facilities were excellent. Clean and very modern

    Disliked:

On arrival at about 8.30pm we found that our pre booked pitch was already occupied. It turned out it had been double booked which was clearly disappointing. However, the staff member on site was hugely apologetic and helpful in finding us another acceptable spot to pitch despite the site being fully booked.

Quiet park with lovely grassy pitch sites. The added use of a picnic table was an excellent inclusion!

    Disliked:

Some further facilities aimed at campers would be good. A camp kitchen with communal microwave and fridge are so useful for backpackers and people travelling on bicycles like us.

Local attractions

The owners reckon there’s something for everyone around this site, but walkers and cyclists are especially sorted when it comes to activities. If you’re up for a trek, challenge yourself to one of the trails up Ben Nevis, getting intel on which ones to tackle at the mountain range’s visitor centre, just over five minutes’ drive away.

If you’re after a lazier lope, amble along the Caledonian Canal from the locks at Neptune's Staircase (25 minutes’ walk) or get your RDA of exercise by nipping in and out of the shops of Fort William (five minutes’ drive). The town has plenty of stores selling mountaineering kit if you need equipment to try out the more intense pursuits – think skiing and downhill biking – available in the area.

For a family day out, make your way to the Glenfinnan Viaduct (25 minutes’ drive) and see if the kids recognise it from the Harry Potter films – the Hogwarts Express was filmed crossing this oh-so-scenic bridge.

Saving perhaps the best activity till last, top off your trip by paying a visit to the whisky makers at the Ben Nevis Distillery (15 minutes’ walk) for a few drams of one of Scotland’s finest exports.
