General

  • Small seasonal campsite on a quiet family-run farm
  • Opened in summer 2016, with refurbished facilities from spring 2017
  • Barbecues encouraged; firepits for hire; fresh lamb for sale

Shepherd's Hut Camping opened in summer 2016, on a family-run sheep farm in Wiltshire.

Come and meet the animals or enjoy a quiet walk around the fields looking for nature and enjoying the outdoors. There is a large fish pond, a perfect place for a quiet sit down in the sun or after a long day. The farm is surrounded by quiet lanes for exploring, although you may meet an occasional tractor going about its work.

The site is in a quiet field adjacent to the house, with easy and direct, separate, access from the road. A short (100 metres or so) walk across the grass will take you to the shower block, with two flushing toilets, washing-up facilities, laundry facilities for a small charge, and two hot, curtained, showers. Amenities were refurbished in spring 2017.

Shepherd's Hut Camping encourages barbecues; firepits are available.to hire. The farm produces its own lamb meat and other produce, so periodically you'll be able to buy fresh lamb to cook or take home with you. Plenty of other farms nearby sell fresh produce such as meat, eggs, milk and other bits – ask the site owners if you'd like some during your stay.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

There will be music festivals occurring approximately 5 miles from the site on the 3-6th August and whilst they will hopefully not disturb visitors, there is a chance they will hear them e.g. depending on the wind direction.

Great site. Due to only have a limited number of pitches in a large field, we had plenty of room and wasn't tripping over other people. Very relaxed. very friendly, definitely go there again.

    Lots of space, very peaceful.
    Warm welcome.
    Decent facilities.
    Tasty sausages.
    Log fires allowed.
Kettle for that late night cuppa or hot water bottle.
Brilliant site, a place to really unwind

    Disliked:

The showers, whilst clean, hot, and with decent power, are situated in a communal area, shared by males and females. I knew this and it didn't phase me, in fact it made it really convenient to keep an eye on my kids, but a door, rather than a curtain, on each cubical would be a big improvement. Wouldn't stop me coming again though.

What a find! Just what we were looking for - quiet, big field, private farm, lots of space to run around, no bright lights! Excellent, very clean shower block with kettle, sink etc. The owners were a joy to meet and a real inspiration - so kind and generous. This place has a brilliant yet subtle feel. Would definitely book again. Only a 10 minute drive from Womad festival. Loved it!

Local attractions

This quiet, rural, north Wiltshire location is well set for exploring, at the base of the Cotswolds and a short drive from scenic old Cotswold villages such as Bibury (where you can look around the trout farm and feed the fish) or Cirencester and its shops, parks, cafés and restaurants.

South of the farm is the city of Bath (40-50 minutes' drive) or you could visit the shopping centre of Bristol (45 minutes away). For outdoor activities, the park is 15 minutes from the Cotswold Water Park, a collection of lakes with a number of activities including but not limited to bike hire, canoe hire and climbing (some activities need to be booked before arrival).

The site lies in farmland between the village of Brinkworth (five minutes) with a local pub and shop and Malmesbury (10 minutes' drive). Malmesbury is a handsome old town with a collection of shops, cafés, pubs, takeaways, a petrol station, a leisure centre and supermarkets. It also has a spectacular abbey and one of the oldest hotels in England, well worth a cream tea in its scenic surroundings.
