General

  • Peaceful camping field with year-round facilities
  • National Trust and English Heritage properties close by
  • Enjoyable 20-minute walk to Ham Hill

Yeooo, check out this well-connected Somerset pub site. The Masons Arms is in the good-looking hamstone village of Odcombe near Yeovil, surrounded by topping walking trails – we thoroughly recommend the 20-minute hike up Ham Hill just to start strolls off.

The Arms is close to many Somerset attractions including National Trust and English Heritage properties, but is set peacefully well away from the main road. And as it's a pub site, we also thoroughly recommend dinner and drinks in the Arms each evening – no fights needed about who's going to drive home...

Facilities at the Masons Arms include a modern unisex loo block with two loos, two showers, three sinks, a washing-up area, a hairdryer, an iron and an ironing board.

Please note

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Unfortunately due to access issues we no longer accept caravans. Motorhomes, campervans and trailer tents are welcome and, of course, tents.

We found the Mason arms easy to get to. very clean and tidy and staff very helpful. Showers could have done with a partition in them to help keep things dry But it's just my opinion. They were lovely and hot and clean. Evening meal in the Mason we had a starter and main meal which was lovely, the guy serving us was a good laugh and chatty. Would we stay again Yes we would.

    Disliked:

The sun refused to shine but not the Mason arms fault.

We can recommend this site wholeheartedly. The site is behind the pub so within a very short walk you can get something to eat and drink. It is situated in a village a short distance outside Yeovil so you have the convenience of a quiet village setting with the conveniences offered by a town. The site is small, quiet and dark at night to guarantee a good nights sleep. A very clean and well cared for site.

Campsite was good, not too large, plenty of space, good facilities all free. .Very dog friendly.
The Masons Arms was a lovely pub, staff very friendly and helpful, excellent customer service, food was amazing.

    Disliked:

We did not know the area, had a dog so wanted to go walking but no maps left. Due to rain unable to walk far, (not the pub's fault).
On our last evening (Thursday 30th), whilst having a meal and drinks in the pub, there were a group of three local men drinking at the bar. One of these men had a very loud voice and kept swearing, this was from about 7pm onwards and there were several small children in the area so this was not acceptable behaviour. The bar staff did not appear aware or did not appear to do anything about this man's swearing. When we left I did let a member of staff know who said he had been too busy to notice this but did apologise and say he would speak to the customer.

From the manager...

I'm so pleased your enjoyed your stay overall and so sorry we couldn't improve the weather for you! We printed off 6 sets of walk maps recently and we do check they are still there each week but some campers do seem to accidentally take them away so I'm sorry there were none left when you looked. We do have more in the pub so please pop up and ask if you visit again and one of us should also be able to explain local walks from the pub for you and give you a printed version. We don't like bad language in the pub at any time and I'm so sorry that the customer at the bar was not spoken to earlier but rest assured he has been now!

Loved the area as we used to live in this part of the country. Site was really nice, very dog friendly which was great as we were travelling with our 7 months old pup. Food in the Masons Arms was not cheap but of good quality, shame we didn't get chance to really enjoy it but we had a medical emergency which required a visit to A&E. The toilets and showers were clean just strange as they were unisex. Great to have a field where you could let the dogs of the lead and let them run. Owners and staff very friendly.

    Disliked:

Could do with separate changing rooms when having a shower as it was very difficult getting dried and dressed. Could do with a washing machine and drier for use by campers, would have been useful due to downpours when there. The road through Lower Odcombe was difficult to drive down if driving a large vehicle (found it was easier to turn right out of site). Had a couple on site who weren't dog friendly so would complain when dogs barked!

Campsite and surroundings were lovely. Clean facilities, quiet location in village setting.

    Disliked:

Not thrilled with the unisex facilities and there being only 2 toilets and 2 showers. Don't agree with having the washing up facilities in the same room as the showers and toilets either.
Campsite not very big and there were more people/tents than there seemed room for at one point, given the size of the site.
Would be nice to have a kids menu in the pub.

From the manager...

Thank you for youir feedback and I'm sorry you didn't like the unisex showers or wash up facilities but we are very limited as regards building space being in a conservation area so no drainage is allowed beyond the end of the building. Many people enjoy the shared facilities but I appreciate it's very much a personal preference. We agree entirely as regards the number of people on site this weekend, this was due to a booking for 5 becoming a booking for 13 which they did not advise us about, they just turned up! Also 2 campervan units were meant to be on the hard standing area but parked on the grass and then did not want to move so the field was much more full than we would normally allow.
This is the first year we have had so many families and large tents stay with us and we have always run a quite relaxed site where there is plenty of room so you can pitch where you prefer. As a consequence of this weekend and a couple of other occassions this summer where people have arrived with palaces we will be marking out standard pitch sizes and allocating either grass or hard standing areas to avoid situations where people feel crowded in.
As regards the childrens meals we offer any of our meals in smaller portions and also we are happy to cater for individual preferences rather than restrict children to a few standard choices. As all our meals are made fresh to order then we can accomodate most requests. I hope this addresses your concerns and hope if you are in the area in the future you will stay with us or dine with us again.
