General

  • In a rural peaceful area with easy access to shops and local pubs
  • Walks through an orchard with stunning views of Somerset
  • Restaurant 200 yards away

Somerset camping… even the phrase sounds peaceful. Add in an orchard and – well: all is sorted for peaceful somerset stays. (And spectacular views too, of course.)

West Down Orchard Touring and Camping Park is a family-run site set deep in green Somerset countryside, in a 12-acre orchard with those spectacular views. This is the place to settle for rest, relaxation and splendid walks throughout the nearby farmland and countryside lanes; dogs are welcome on site too.

Pitches here drain well even in heavy rain, to suit camping in all weathers, and are generously sized with plenty of room around. The park has a big and up to date facilities block with separate ladies' and gents' areas and free hot showers, and a laundrette with washing machine and tumble dryer.

The small on-site shop stocks daily essentials, a restaurant is just down the road and the local pub is a mile away.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Electricity is metered on site at 20p per kwH and must be paid at check-out.

Lovely site, very clean and well maintained. Staff friendly and helpful. Like the fact you pay for what electric you use rather than just billed in advance which for us was only £1.12 for 3 days. Easy to get too, has a nice little on site shop that sells a few basics if you need them. Weather stayed sunny and dry which was a bonus we will be booking again.

    Disliked:

Not owners fault but the grass had not long been cut so got grass everywhere we walked ok when it was dry though and the Mole hills quite a few around where we were parked making the ground a bit uneven to walk on but other than that we loved it.

Clean, quiet site with picturesque views of the apple orchards. Not busy and within walking distance of the local pub. Extremely reasonable electric rates (rather than the usual £2-3 a night, you pay for what you use - we owed 90p after 3 nights!!). Staff were friendly on arrival. Can't remember if wifi was available, we always use our own.

    Disliked:

The water pressure was abysmal in the showers, it just trickled out. Very clean block though, and nice warm water.

Loved the campsite, lovely and quiet and loads of places to explore. My children loved it. We saw deer, rabbits, birds of prey etc. Will definitely come back.

    Disliked:

Not too keen on the toilets/showers. Music in the background would be lovely as it’s silent in there, plus the showers get really hot.

The hosts Bob and Nikki were very welcoming. we had a pick of a few pitches.
The grounds are well kept and the pitch was level. The electric is payable separately but that worked out fine for us, it was £2 for 2 nights.. cant argue with that!.
The walks in the area were lovely.. a great Indian and amazing pub nearby!
we will return but in the summer next time!

    Disliked:

The very cold Bathroom /shower! not for the fainthearted on a cold April afternoon..
but flippin awesome shower with a fab supply of HOT HOT HOT water!
but probably awesome in the summer..!
