General

  • In a rural peaceful area with easy access to shops and local pubs
  • Walks through an orchard with stunning views of Somerset
  • Restaurant 200 yards away

Somerset camping… even the phrase sounds peaceful. Add in an orchard and – well: all is sorted for peaceful somerset stays. (And spectacular views too, of course.)

West Down Orchard Touring and Camping Park is a family-run site set deep in green Somerset countryside, in a 12-acre orchard with those spectacular views. This is the place to settle for rest, relaxation and splendid walks throughout the nearby farmland and countryside lanes; dogs are welcome on site too.

Pitches here drain well even in heavy rain, to suit camping in all weathers, and are generously sized with plenty of room around. The park has a big and up to date facilities block with separate ladies' and gents' areas and free hot showers, and a laundrette with washing machine and tumble dryer.

The small on-site shop stocks daily essentials, a restaurant is just down the road and the local pub is a mile away.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Electricity is metered on site at 20p per kwH and must be paid at check-out.

Quiet and sheltered with plenty of room. Even during a gale the site was sufficiently sheltered. In most places my tent would have blown down but not here! Facilities basic but adequate and clean. A warm welcome on arrival.

Beautiful campsite with lovely views and three orchards to walk around as we did with our dog. He loved it! Also within easy reach of a lot of places including lovely South Petherton where there's a great pub!

    Disliked:

Toilets need a bit of an upgrade and in fact there's a notice on the door saying they're not up to their usual standard but caravanners who have been going for years say they have never changed😄. It would be a lot nicer if they were upgraded but they will probably increase the fees to cover it. Sometimes they were also a bit dirty especially in the shower drains which were full of muck and hairs - yuk. Nowhere to put your shower stuff and clothes apart from a couple of hooks.

The owners gave a warm, friendly welcoming. We camped in a tent with an electrical hook-up, and there were extension cables offered if needed, which was great. The facilities were kept clean, and the maintenance of the surrounding outdoors was great. Lovely views of the countryside. Very close to attractions, such as the fleet air museum.
