General

  • Peaceful rural site by the Frome river, 10 minutes' drive from Wool
  • Half an hour's drive from the beaches of the Jurassic Coast
  • Less than 10 minutes from Monkey World and the Tank Museum

Planning some Purbeck pottering? Pick a pitch at Luckfordwood Caravan and Camping, 10 minutes' drive from Wool, and you’ll be in a prime position for poking around this pretty corner of Dorset.

Bring along your boots and bikes, for there are some great walks and cycle rides to be had in the area around the site (including the 25-minute trot to the local pub – huzzah for a path that ends in pints). Kids rolling their eyes at the idea of rural rambles? The twin attractions of Monkey World and the Tank Museum are 10 minutes away in the car, and there’s heaps more days out within half an hour: beaches, sea kayaking, steam train rides and an ancient castle among them.

Life on site meanders along at a peaceful pace – it’s a most serene setting, surrounded by woodland and with the Frome river flowing by, and there’s plenty of space to walk dogs or stoke up a fire (small firepits only, ta – you wouldn’t want to set the place alight now). Take a quiet wander around the grounds and you may just spot the local deer herd popping by to graze.

Naturally, this chilled vibe doesn’t lend itself to heaps of noisy activity, so facilities here have been kept to just the basics: the smart modern toilet block has loos, showers and a washing-up area and is proudly scrubbed clean on a daily basis.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Please note you need to bring your own leads if you book an electric hook-up.

I really enjoyed the peaceful setting and the ability to let children roam as there is not thoroughfare through the middle most of the set up involved smaller fields separate from eachother.

    1) Stunning location! Even though it's a campsite with proper facilities it felt like I was wild camping. Its's not over developed or regimented, you can have a bbq and/or a fire pit, the surrounding woods are so pretty and the wildlife is everywhere because the grounds haven't been "manicured" to death!
    2) V clean facilities,
    3) Extremely friendly owner. Grant is a lovely man who goes above and beyond, he even made me a cup of coffee in the morning!

    Disliked:

I would have been nice to get wifi but my 4G signal was at full strength so it wasn't a big deal. I also found it meant I didn't use my phone much which was nice!

Good short stay site, with basic clean facilities and helpful owner. 10/05/2019

Relaxed site, dog friendly in a good location for Wareham, Lulworth Cove and surrounding areas, by bike or car, with helpful friendly owner and basic facilities. Level pitches, no hard standing, but good hard ground for our American RV.

    Disliked:

The site is still being developed first impressions are not that welcoming, it needs heating in the toilet block and private washing basins.
The description of the site is not that accurate, as the river is a good 10 minute walk up the road and it is not possible to walk along it.

From the manager...

Thanks for your comments just to let you know the entrance to the site has been grass seeded so will take awhile to take shape. With regards to the toilet block thanks for your suggestions we will look at making improvements as the site progresses.

A tucked away little gem in the middle of the country side and ideal location for local attractions such as Lulworth cove, Durdledoor and monkey world etc. Large flat fields to park up in. The weekend we spent there was nice and quiet with plenty of room. Owner Grant was there to greet us on arrival and give us the camp layout, which was nice and low key. If you want a nice relaxing farm land camp this one is right up there for us. Would definitely return to here again.

    Disliked:

Only one thing, which is from the Mrs- the shower is like the one you get at the sports centre where you have to push the button in around every 30 seconds (guessing) which for my Mrs who was trying to wash medium length hair was finding a faff, having to pretty much keep one hand on the button. As a bloke with short hair not a problem. That said the showers were kept clean and were modern.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments and suggestions much appreciated,

Local attractions

If you’re into all things vehicular, start your local exploration at The Tank Museum, 10 minutes’ drive away – the collection of more than 300 tanks (including Little Willie, the world’s first) is renowned as the world’s finest. Follow up with a steam-powered ride on the Swanage Railway (25 minutes away).

As you ride the rails, you’ll pass the ruins of Corfe Castle, built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror – it’s about 15 minutes from the site if you’d like to take a closer look. A mile or so up the road from the castle is the cute Wareham Bears, where more than 200 teddies live in a model village. For real-life animal antics, take the 10-minute drive to Monkey World to see the apes that found TV fame in the UK as stars of the Monkey Life.

And one can't ignore the Jurassic Coast – it’ll take you 20 minutes or so to drive to some of its most stunning sights, including Lulworth Cove, Man O’War beach and the giant stone arch Durdle Door. A walk on the South West Coast Path is an excellent way to take it all in, or you could try paddleboarding, sea kayaking or coasteering to get a different view.
