Direct road access to a secluded site

General

  • Secluded and simple site on a farm in scenic, rural surrounds
  • A mile's walk to Shaftesbury and a five-minute drive to Duncliffe Wood
  • A 35-minute drive from Stonehenge and 50 minutes from the coast

If a secluded stay is what you’re seeking for an upcoming hol, escape to Edwards Farm in dreamy Dorset and settle in at a site on a quiet field with oodles of space.

Numbers are limited here to boost the peaceful vibes – and to make sure the whole experience feels as private as possible – plus barbecues are allowed as well. Wood is available on request for campfires, so you can also amp up the outdoorsy atmosphere by building a blaze too.

If you’re after ingredients to assemble alfresco bites, set off on a short uphill walk to the centre of Shaftesbury (15 minutes) and scour the local shops (or just jump in the car for the five-minute journey). As for adventures, the park is at the base of the well-known Foyle Hill cycling route, with sublime scenery luring in bikers and hikers.

With Duncliffe Woods (five minutes’ drive), Melbury Abbas (10 minutes), Hambledon Hills (15 minutes) and Hod Hill (20 minutes) all in close proximity, stunning strolls are in fact accessible in all directions.

Back on base, amenities are of the basic variety and include a field shelter with dry toilets and cold-water taps.

Edwards Farm is a prime pick for convenience as parking is permitted next to pitches and it’s a 20-minute drive from the Warminster exit off the A303. At the moment, the site asks that you take any rubbish away with you.

Please note

Minimum spacing of 10 metres between pitches.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Reception is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

We stayed at the end of the season and were very lucky with the weather and also the peace and solitude as there were hardly any other campers - just how I like it! We knew we liked the location as we live just up the hill in Shaftesbury but we fancied a couple of nights away with our adult children so that we could spend some time around a campfire, away from everyday life and work. It seemed a bit mad to stay so local to where we live but then again it made it easy - it was also our first camping trip with the dog so didn't want to go far in case it was a disaster! We also appreciated the space between pitches, the clean and well thought out facilities with sensible covid safety measures, the friendly and helpful host, the open fires and the wildlife. The solar showers were a great addition and, although I didn't work out if I could have made mine run hot if I'd wanted, it was very welcome as we stayed during an early autumn heatwave!
    In summary, we liked everything.

Hi Sarah, Thank you for your review, you were so lucky with the weather, I'm not sure it could have been much better. It was lovely to see you all having such a relaxed time of things..I am keen to know what your secret is for getting sisters to get along so well! It was a pleasure to have them both stay an extra night..come and see us again. Or maybe see you in town!

The owners, location and peaceful nature of this site make it a perfect place to get away from it all for a few nights. We’ve been lucky enough to have stayed here 3 times over the last few months and each time we discover a new pub, place to eat or walk. A great site in a great location with great hosts.

Hey you two...what can we say to that kind review, again!
You are so kind and the reason we may introduce a loyalty card scheme!!
It was so lovely to see you enjoy yourselves and that each time you have come our little field has offered you something different, including the place to yourselves! Hurrah for September sun, spontaneity and older age kids you can leave behind!
See you next time!
Sarah and Alex.

Hi Robert, Thank you for your review..it did make me smile..I will have a think about how to steer dog walkers (it was my campsite partner's girlfriend!) away from the field that our campers use when we have you onsite!
It was good to meet you, thank you for having such a relaxed time, it was a pleasure to meet you both.

We visited Edwards Farm for our final camping trip of the year and we were not disappointed! Set in beautiful surroundings, secluded and peaceful with the sounds of nature all around. Sarah is a fantastic host who made us feel welcome and worked extremely hard to keep facilities immaculately clean and adhering to the current guidelines. Facilities are simple, but everything we needed was provided - I even used the solar shower on a sunny day which was very refreshing! Sarah puts a lot of love into this campsite, down to providing fire pits and little jars with tea lights which was a really lovely touch. We also loved little honey the camp dog who is super cute! We had a walk up to Sarah’s bench in the next field which provided some beautiful views, especially at sunset. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will be back next year!

Goodness Daniel i think you just got the job as our Marketing Manager!
What a kind review!
It is great that our little field rounded off your camping season, you were one of our last campers too as our 'season' rolls to a close so 'thank you' for choosing us..
Alex and I think you get the prize for 'most organised vehicle!' do you unpack it? Or just park somewhere ready for any spontaneous trip?! To Edwards Farm again perhaps?!

You were so lucky with the weather, just holding for you to grab some lovely evening time and I am so glad to hear my bench offered a sunset, I love that spot. I love to share it, remember it when the Autumn/Winter darkness reduces our days..
See you both again..
Sarah and Alex.

Still a lovely place, my reason for booking this return trip.
Sarah still amazes me, being able to keep up with looking after everything she takes on and keeping the facilities clean and tidy as she does.

This time I hired Sarah's own Bell tent which was already pitched up for me when I arrived = pure indulgence, less stress (if that's ever possible with me) and no worries where to dry my own tent when I got home, if it rained. It was fab.

    Disliked:

As a quiet person trying to escape the noise of the human and urban jungle of where I live, booking over a bank holiday may not have been my wisest choice, with larger groups of people, more children etc. the peaceful vibe and respect of the general site rules was missing in comparison with my experience at my first visit.

I shall remember to book outside bank and school holidays when I next visit. :-)

From the manager...

Dear Carole, I am so glad you enjoyed the bell tent..you made it very cosy!
I think August bank holiday is likely the busiest family weekend of the year anywhere and everywhere, we did have lots of children on site, which we love, however things did quieten down on Sunday and I know you got another 24 hours of the peace you so rightly need and look for.
It has been amazing over the past 8 weeks, watching our campsite dynamic alter with all the various combinations of visitors. We like to think we have maintained a consistent space and standard, how people use it shifts a little each weekend.
This has all been a learning curve for Alex and I, we have much to ponder in our 'off season' but one thing is for sure, it makes us very happy to have return campers, it was so good to see you again, a second solo camping trip, you are brave and independent, lets hear it for girl power!
You were one of 2 other return pitches, we really do hope you come and see us again, around the school holidays!!!

Thank you for your kind words..It was such an absolute pleasure to welcome you both back to Edwards Farm. For Alex and I to have previous campers return is the ultimate compliment, to read your review saying you might be back again is fab!
In these tricky times knowing our little field offers you a space to 'switch off and relax' is all we could have hoped for from our new campsite venture.
Let's hope 'Mr Blue Sky' shines during September and you make it back, we will be really glad to see you.

Haha..I love your few words..I am going to presume you mean me and not Alex!
What we love about our location is the tucked away seclusion, no one really knows you are there and yet 1 mile away is the lovely little historic town of Shaftesbury, an uphill walk but certainly doable!
I must say it does make me chuckle when campers give themselves reviews on their own accommodation...if you decide to upgrade your tent please do bring it along and come and see us again.

Keen for the coast? Peruse the seaside around Poole (50 minutes) and Bournemouth (an hour), perhaps heading off on an amble between the two; urban explores are to be had around Bath’s Roman ruins (55 minutes), at Salisbury’s high-spired cathedral (50 minutes) or closer by at the abbey in the pretty settlement of Sherborne (half an hour).
