Edwards Farm: Views from the bench.

General

  • Secluded and simple site on a farm in scenic, rural surrounds
  • A mile's walk to Shaftesbury and a five-minute drive to Duncliffe Wood
  • A 35-minute drive from Stonehenge and 50 minutes from the coast

If a secluded stay is what you’re seeking for an upcoming hol, escape to Edwards Farm in dreamy Dorset and settle in at a site on a quiet field with oodles of space.

Numbers are limited here to boost the peaceful vibes – and to make sure the whole experience feels as private as possible – plus barbecues are allowed as well. Wood is available on request for campfires, so you can also amp up the outdoorsy atmosphere by building a blaze too.

If you’re after ingredients to assemble alfresco bites, set off on a short uphill walk to the centre of Shaftesbury (15 minutes) and scour the local shops (or just jump in the car for the five-minute journey). As for adventures, the park is at the base of the well-known Foyle Hill cycling route, with sublime scenery luring in bikers and hikers.

With Duncliffe Woods (five minutes’ drive), Melbury Abbas (10 minutes), Hambledon Hills (15 minutes) and Hod Hill (20 minutes) all in close proximity, stunning strolls are in fact accessible in all directions.

Back on base, amenities are of the basic variety and include a field shelter with dry toilets and cold-water taps.

Edwards Farm is a prime pick for convenience as parking is permitted next to pitches and it’s a 20-minute drive from the Warminster exit off the A303. At the moment, the site asks that you take any rubbish away with you.

Please note

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Please note: the showers are located outdoors and are unprotected, please bring a bathing suit for modesty.

EVERYTHING! Firstly Andy (and Saskia the Dog) is a greay host, he emailed prior to arrival with directions and to check our arrival time (which was post 9pm!) To make sure he could meet us on site. There was a bit of confusion on my behalf about the plit having electric, never the less Andy still helped us with this by giving us access to a plug at a nearby cottage.
The campsite is kept really well and had beautful views, logs and a wood burner are provided in the bell tent, there are fire pits available to use for the tent pitches too.
Outdoor solar heated showers are super cool and very refreshing in the hot summer days.
Beaches on the sourh coast are about an hour away and very easy to get to, and lots of local amenities around! 10 out of 10 would recommend!

Very quiet weekend - only us and 1 other group at other end of site.
Lovely big pitches which were mown with long grass and flowers between pitches.
3 portaloos, but they were very clean.
2 nice outdoor showers with decent water temperature and pressure.
Very friendly owner who was helpful, but not at all ‘in your face’.
Free to borrow firepit was spot on.
Saw bats at night and a deer in the neighbouring field.
Overall really nice site and we’ll visit again.

So glad you enjoyed the site and your stay, thank you for the review, very much appreciated, especially when this year is a little quieter than the last two 'covid' years. The quieter times are such a good moment to see the wildlife, which are abundant this time of year. Look forward to meeting you again.

The place was stunning, had everything we needed, toilets, showers, wash up facilities. Super dog friendly. The pitch’s had been mowed around for extra privacy so people couldn’t people couldn’t pitch up right next to you because for some reason people like to do that.

Only one observation not criticism….a metal bin to dispose of charcoal & ashes would be helpful.

From the manager...

Hi Bernie, thanks for your 10/10 and kind comments, really appreciated, and I will definitely think about a metal bin, good idea. I was disappointed that you did not think we are very child friendly, as most children love the site. Maybe for older ones the countryside is a bit dull? Should you like to bring some children next time, please bring them for free. For anyone reading, just so it is clear we do not advertise or supply WiFi, apologies but you have to rely on 4G at the site, which can be patchy on some networks.

Clean, pretty and quiet site, very comfortable and welcoming. Child friendly and not too busy. Hosts were very helpful and always a phone call away, very hospitable. The facilities were cleaned regularly and had everything you needed. The pitches were mostly flat and of a good size, not too close together.

    Disliked:

Not a dislike really, but if I was staying for more than one night I reckon I'd want a shower with walls 😉, great that it's solar though

From the manager...

Hi Graeme,
We are glad you had a good stay. We understand how you feel about the showers, we are considering what to do about screens, it is tricky as they are solar. Our campsite is a basic one so we are pleased to offer showers at all, we believe they are a bonus. Solar power is in keeping with our desire to keep things natural and environmental. Watch this space!

Local attractions

A visit to Shaftesbury is sure to be on the cards when staying at this site – the historic town is a mere mile away, so you can easily go off on a wander around the shops or get up to Gold Hill in the centre for views across the vale.

If stretching the legs isn’t really for you, admire animals instead at Longleat House (half an hour’s drive) and Monkey World (40 minutes). Those more culturally curious can navigate their way towards National Trust attractions like Stourhead (20 minutes), King Alfred's Tower (half an hour) and Montacute House (45 minutes) or skedaddle to the ancient site of Stonehenge (35 minutes) to gaze at the granddaddy of all things historical.

Keen for the coast? Peruse the seaside around Poole (50 minutes) and Bournemouth (an hour), perhaps heading off on an amble between the two; urban explores are to be had around Bath’s Roman ruins (55 minutes), at Salisbury’s high-spired cathedral (50 minutes) or closer by at the abbey in the pretty settlement of Sherborne (half an hour).

Must see
