What customers say
Howard's Wood offers a peaceful, 'wild' camping experience nestled in woodland. Guests appreciate the spacious, private pitches, the natural surroundings with wildlife sightings, and the blend of rustic charm with essential facilities like hot showers and toilets. The site is praised for its excellent communication from hosts, value for money, and proximity to local attractions. While some minor issues like occasional rough ground or the need to take rubbish home were noted, the overall sentiment is highly positive, with many visitors eager to return.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch
Liked An absolutely amazing campsite in a great location. Me and a friend were looking for somewhere wild to camp and found this campsite the owner steph could not have been nicer and more helpful during our stay. The location was great as it was far enough away from the town and beach to feel wild but close enough to go for the day. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a peaceful and wild campsite.

Non-electric forest floor campervan or trailer tent pitch
Liked We loved how off grid this experience was. It truly felt like we were wild camping. The pitches were a decent size and we were pleasantly surprised with the facilities. The shower was considerably hot and spacious. We visited with our 4 dogs, and the walks around the woods were gorgeous. During our stay, we also had a walk down to the village pub which did great food and cider.

Liked The local village and church. Bought eggs and jam
Disliked The wood is the villagers dog walk. First evening a large brown dog tried to attack us,the owner could barely control it. It wrecked our little set up,tipped over our fire pit. I locked myself and small dog inside the van and left first thing in the morning. The relaxing time that I had hoped for was not possible. Lots of dog walkers with big dogs walking past during my short stay.

Great place to reconnect with nature and family
Non-electric forest floor tent pitch
Liked The woodlands were incredible.
Peaceful and tranquil.
Compost toiletts a surprise to the kids who have never seen them.
Showers were fabulous nice and hot if required.
Owners were welcoming and helpful.
There is wife signal, but no electric points which was great to disconnect the kids from their phone.
The site is away from crows but closed enought to towns for shopping, walks or swimming. 45mins you are in East Devon. 1hr poole / Bournemouth. I am not a pro camper, this site is perfect for anyone who wants the camping experience. Can't wait to go back.

Liked Lovely peaceful site. Basic but clean toilets, showers and washing up station. Your own little bit of woodland to pitch in. Great correspondence with owners as well. Can’t wait to go back. I’m a lone traveller and felt totally safe.

Great small woodland site, highly recommend!
Non-electric forest floor tent pitch
Liked Beautiful area of the country, great size, well spaced woodland pitches with parking available on or near pitch. Composting toilets and hot showers a definite bonus plus a washing up area makes it the perfect “nearly wild” site.
The owner Steph was lovely and really helpful with all my pre-booking questions. Good food at local pub (pre-booking required for evening meals) and a lovely view. Highly recommend!
Disliked Having to go home!
