General

  • One of the closest sites to Bournemouth
  • Sociable atmosphere that respects guests' peace and quiet
  • Lots of water-based activities to do nearby

If your camping destination is Dorset-based, farm yourself out to the friendly folk at St Leonards Farm Caravan & Camping Park, which is an ideal base for exploring Bournemouth, Poole and the New Forest. There are sparkling loos, toasty hot water for showers and washing up, and well marked-out pitches – clearly these farm folk know what campers want. And canine campers are welcome too.

If you want to sizzle your own sausages, you can exchange gas cylinders on site and there are two major supermarkets within five minutes’ drive, or two pubs within a mile and a number of nearby restaurants if you’re feeling lazy/thirsty. St Leonards Farm is a sociable but quiet site and has a 'no noise after 11pm' policy – perfect if you’re getting up at the crack of dawn for some seaside exploring.

Well signposted off the main road yet once along the lane quite some way off that road for peacefulness.
All the facilities one could want and helpful chatty staff.
open even in early february too.

    Disliked:

Too many speed bumps - every few yards!
Not what you need when you have a camper or caravan full of crockery etc.
Do people actually tear around campsites like boy-racers?

From the manager...

Hi Stuart, thanks for you kind review! Glad you like the park overall.
Most people do drive slowly but sadly we have found that one or two people do ignore the speed limits on site and when in the summer we have more children on the park, we have found this is the only way to keep traffic speeds down. Most people are responsible but there are one or two, as with life in general, that do not respect safety or common sense. We have found first gear very slowly works ok. Hope to see you again.

Having to phone to get someone to come to reception, especially when leaving with the caravan and someone else is behind you.

From the manager...

Hi thanks for your review and we are glad your like the shower block. In low season like February we are quiet so don't always have someone sitting in reception every minute of the day, which is why in the Winter you do need to phone sometimes for staff. Sorry if this caused any issues for you!

Local attractions

St Leonards Farm is one of the closest sites to Bournemouth, with sandy beaches only seven miles away. There’s loads to do nearby if you’re feeling full of beans – try watersports such as windsurfing, sailing or surfing at Bournemouth’s artificial reef, or get busy with some go-karting, dry slope skiing, golf, fishing or horse-riding in the scenic surrounding countryside.

Feeling a bit tired after all that sporty exertion? Take a picnic to nearby Moors Valley Country Park, which has a golf course, cycling routes and outdoor play area, or have a family day out at a plethora of local attractions including Paultons Park, Marwell Zoo, Beaulieu Motor Museum and Wimborne Minster Model Town.

Kids will likely enjoy fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast, and if they’re disappointed by not finding a T-rex skeleton right there and then, you can take them along to the Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, then spoil them with a day out at Adventure Wonderland less than three miles from the park. The site is also an ideal stopover point for the Poole or Portsmouth cross-channel ferries.
