  • On the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park
  • Easy access to the moors via an easy off-road path
  • Close to the Granite Way: cycle hire within 100 yards

Easy access to Dartmoor, Devon, Cornwall, moorland walks, close to the A30, Lydford Gorge, the Granite Way and with a pub serving food right next door: the location of rocks.

A small, friendly and family-run site, Bundu is on the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park near Okehampton, and a nifty touring base for Devon and Cornwall north and south. National Cycle Route 27 the Granite Way is adjacent to the site; if you haven't brought your own wheels, bike hire is available within 100 yards. The moors are within walking distance via an easy off-road path.

Bundu has a barbecue area and a small shop selling provisions and charcoal; newspapers are available here too if you order them the day before. There's also an amenities block with toilets, showers and disabled facilities, all heated in winter, as well as a laundry room and a washing-up area.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Location - very handy for Dartmoor and only 0.6 miles from well stocked Shell garage, Little Chef, Burger King and truck stop diner. Pitches were flat and level. Owners were very polite and helpful. Free wifi throughout the site. Background noise from the A30 means you can sit outside and relax not having to worry that you might be annoying your neighbours. Really quiet sites are nice but you feel like you have to be in bed by 10pm as every breath can be heard across the site. If you have younger kids I would especially recommed this site for that very reason. The road noise is constantly there but it isnt enough to affect sleeping. The toilets/showers were dated from the outside but inside they were clean and practical. Site is surrounded by tress/hedges so it is secure and sheltered. You can park your car next to your pitch. Taps and bins throughout the site, bricks for barbeque or there is a dedicated barbeque area with chairs and even a BBQ. Cycle hire is right next door

    Disliked:

The toilet/shower block is quite a walk from pretty much wherever you are, especially if you are towards the bottom of the site. Absolutely fine if it is dry but I can imagine it would be a pain in the rain in the middle of the night.

Wonderful bell tent in picturesque area 28/08/2017

We stayed in the bell tent and it was wonderful. The double bed had an inflatable mattress but we couldn't even tell as it was so comfortable! The electric hookup was very useful and we utilised the indoor table and chairs and the outdoor chairs provided. The wifi was a bit hit and miss but it is a camp site after all so it shouldn't really be a necessity. There was minor noise from the road as mentioned by others but it wasn't too disturbing and the site was still quite peaceful. There was a gate on site that was useful, if lead directly to a country walk that ended at the Moore in one direction and we found a pub walking the other way. The surrounding area was all very beautiful, although not much to do without a car apart from enjoy the countryside. I was amazing at how clean the toilet and shower facilities were, it all felt fairly luxurious for camping. The man and woman at reception were lovely as well, many guests arrived after arrival time due to heavy traffic on our day of arrival and they stayed up until 11pm for some guests regardless. Lovely people in a lovely location and at a reasonable price, I would definitely visit again!

    Disliked:

Barbecue was encrusted with previous tenants food n grease as was the barbecue for our neighbours.
I don't like cleaning up after myself yet alone other people's mess.
Could do with an electric heater and extra plug sockets

Local attractions

Nearby Lydford Gorge, the valley carved into hard Dartmoor rock, is the deepest gorge in England's southwest and a popular walking pick throughout the year for its 100-foot high White Lady waterfall and the Devils Cauldron whirlpools. Several walks are around here; pick up a National Trust leaflet at the site for details on routes.

Heaps more outdoorsy pursuits are easily found in the Bundu Camping and Caravan Park surrounds, like the hiking trails and horse riding of Dartmoor, golfing and fishing in the nearby countryside, and surfing and sunbathing north of the site at Bude and Widemouth Bay.

The old tannery town and Francis Drake's birthplace of Tavistock within a short drive is an award-winning option for shopping, at its Pannier Market on Fridays, regular events like antique and craft fairs, and the farmers' market fortnightly in the Square, voted the best in the southwest.

More history is all around at places like Plymouth, where you can take the crew on a boat trip to see the navy ships in dock; Princetown, with its famed prison and museum; the old river port Morwellham Quay, and historic houses like 700 year old Buckland Abbey near Yelverton and the early twentieth century country house Castle Drogo, near Drewsteignton.
