  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

What customers say

This adults-only campsite is praised for its exceptional cleanliness and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors highlight the friendly and helpful staff, well-maintained pitches, and modern facilities, including spotless showers and toilets. Its convenient location for exploring Dartmoor and the surrounding area is frequently mentioned. The dog-friendly approach, complete with a secure dog walking area, is also a popular feature. While some note occasional road noise due to its proximity to the A30, this is generally not considered a major issue. Many guests express a desire to return, citing it as a top choice.

Aires overnight (roadside) electric optional hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Excellent clean site with lovely facilities. Stayed on the aire, and idea more sites need to adopt. Walking or cycling from the site. Good spot to explore from.

Disliked Steep electric price. Maybe metered electric on the aires could be considered. £6 per night is what I would use in a week on other metered sites in the warmer months.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Many thanks for your kind review. With regards to the cost of electric. All of our pitches are electric optional except our Fully Serviced Pitches. This means that we can keep the price of the pitches cheaper ie Aires Roadside Electric Optional Pitch is £18 per night. This is actually cheaper than Exmouth Sea front. However we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Best wishes from Leigh and David.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Just had a brilliant week at this great little site. Good location to explore Dartmoor and beyond. Immaculately maintained with spotless shower block and washing up areas. Pretty enclosed dog walk, which proved to be Jack Russell proof...... We had delicious steaks, bacon and a pork pie from Oinkers Farm Shop, which is adjacent to the site.
The owners Leigh and David are friendly, hard-working and genuinely care. Regularly walking the site to check everyone is happy and having a good stay

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked What a lovely site! We stayed on Pitch 8, which was a nice size and conveniently located next to The Bothy, perfect for a sneaky game of pool or two.

The shower and toilet blocks were always spotlessly clean and well maintained throughout our stay, which really made a difference to our overall comfort. It's clear that hygiene and cleanliness are a top priority here.

The onsite store was well stocked with common grocery and household items, but also carried some really useful caravan accessories (which I needed!).

And what a bonus with the Dog Park! It's evident that Leigh and David go above and beyond in maintaining the site and all the facilities.

We stayed for ten nights with our dogs and we will definitely be returning.

Highly recommended!

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
