  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

What customers say

This adults-only campsite is highly praised for its exceptional cleanliness and maintenance. Guests consistently highlight the spotless facilities, spacious pitches, and friendly, helpful owners. Its convenient location for exploring Devon and Dartmoor is also a significant draw. The secure dog exercise area and communal 'Bothy' are popular additions. While occasional road noise is mentioned, it rarely detracts from the overall peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Many visitors express a strong desire to return.

Aires overnight (roadside) electric optional hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Really lovely staff and super helpful reception shop for any last minute necessities. Really great facilities, love having drinking water tap right there at the pitch. Absolutely loved the easy access walks straight from the campsite.

Disliked Right on the roadside which can be quite loud but not really an issue.

From the manager: Many thanks for taking the time to leaves us a great review. With regards to the road noise from your pitch, please note that you did book a Roadside Aires Pitch which is why they are priced at a cheaper rate. However we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Best wishes from Leigh and David.

From the manager: Many thanks for taking the time to leave us such a kind review. With regards to a pathway. Sadly, wherever we put a pathway it will always be in the wrong place and people will always walk across the grass. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Best wishes from Leigh and David.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Perfectly proportioned smallish adult-only campsite with decent-sized fully serviced pitches. Owners very helpful and friendly. On-site shop stocked useful items like BBQ charcoal and utensils. Cycling distance to National Trust Castle Drogo & Fingles Bridge. Super clean facilities, and impressed with the provision of a powerful Dyson hairdryer in the “ladies”. Didn’t use it but there was a farm shop next door too.

Disliked Not quite enough shady spots in the heatwave!

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
