  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

What customers say

Barley Meadow Touring Park gets top marks for spotless cleanliness, friendly staff, and its peaceful adults-only vibe. Guests love the modern facilities, roomy pitches, and handy on-site shop. The secure dog area and nearby farm shop are big pluses. Minor road noise is mentioned, but most folks want to come back!

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The site was very welcoming as soon as we arrived at reception and checked in. Plenty of information offered regarding the site both in advance and on arrival.
All the pitches had good space for setting up.
Very clean facilities, plenty toilets and lovely hot showers.

Disliked The site is right next to a very noisy road, not constant traffic but many loud vehicles racing by at times!
On site shop very limited and farm shop closed Sunday and Monday which is a shame if staying long weekend.
Quite a distance from any large food shop suppliers.

From the manager: Many thanks for your review. We are pleased to see that although you have disliked so many things about our site, it has not stopped you saying you would still return. Just to clarify a few things: We are just a small campsite and we have a small shop which is for convenience for our guests. We are NOT a supermarket. The Farm Shop: This is completely separate to our campsite and feel it is unfair that you are reviewing them when you are meant to be reviewing the campsite. They are called Oinkers if you feel the need to review them. With regards to the road we cannot control what drives along it. This road gives you fantastic access and is on a bus route. If you want complete peace and quiet with no road noise then I suggest that you find a campsite that is in the middle of nowhere with narrow lanes to get to. With regards to being far away from places I suggest that in future you do your research to where you are staying. We are 3 miles away from the A30 which means you can be in Exeter in 20mins and Okehampton is 15mins. However we are grateful that you would recommend us to your friends. Best wishes from Leigh and David.

An amazing site with a very special atmosphere, can't wait to return.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked We can't praise this site and owners enough! We had a lovely greeting from Leigh and David who were more than helpful with checking us in and guiding us to our pitch. Fantastic facilities that are kept immaculately clean and the showers that are powerful and hot also amazing WiFi which for us is much appreciated. The shop on site sells your essentials which is a great addition to the site especially when I need of ice for your gin. There is a very short walk to a farm shop ( this is an independent shop not part of barley meadow) which sells your local veg and meat produce. We truly cannot wait to come back, we loved every minute of our stay just gutted our week went so quickly.

Disliked There is nothing we disliked, we LOVED our stay!

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked This is a real gem of a site.
The reception staff were polite, friendly and really helpful.
The amenities were spotless and first class.
The site was peaceful.
We had a touring full service pitch which even though slightly sloping, we had no trouble in siting our caravan.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Atmosphere, service, facilities and hosts we’re all perfect.

Disliked Road aside is a bit noisy.

From the manager: Many thanks for your review. Sadly we do have some road noise as we do have the old A30 which runs past the site. This gives guest fantastic access and a bus route to Exeter and even Bude. Best wishes from Leigh and David

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
