  • Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
  • Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
  • On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell. As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner. There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre. All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

Aires overnight (roadside) electric optional hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Beautifully clean and very well organised. A nice size with good facilities.

Disliked A good 1.3 miles to the nearest pub (uphill on way back!) but we were happy as we like to walk!

Lesley M.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The site was very clean and even in the winter looked very tidy and well maintained. Very quiet site and will be coming back again

Disliked A fair distance to supermarkets but with a little bit of planning not a major issue. Could do with a path from one side of the pitches to Toilets etc, and the shower timers would be better if a little longer. but all these points are just small issues and did not detract from the stay.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Many thanks for your great review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. With regards to a path, one would never be in the right place and people will always take the shorter route. We are only a small site so to follow the road instead of cutting through pitches isn't really much further. We do hope to see you again. Best wishes from Leigh and David

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked This is a lovely site, one of the prettiest we have visited. The site is easy to get to and on arrival the owners were very friendly and helpful, with clear information about the site and surrounding area. It is well organised and maintained and it's clear that a lot of thought has been put into the running of the site. The shower block was immaculately clean, and it has good hot showers. The pitches were a good size and level and the views as far as the eye can see are amazing. There is a small farm shop a few minutes walk away for bresh bread/milk etc. We had a lovely peaceful 4 nights at this site and wouldn't hesitate to revisit and recommend.

Local attractions

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool. There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges. History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive. Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.
