  • Holiday park a short stroll from the sandy surfing beach Croyde Bay
  • Surfboards and wetsuits for hire; surfing lessons available
  • Tropical indoor pool, indoor/outdoor play, beach café and kids' club
Sick of being rudely awakened by your alarm clock? Try a Ruda wakening instead: after a blissfully peaceful lie-in, take a gulp of fresh, clean air and stroll a few steps down to the golden sands and sparkling waves… Ruda Holiday Park sits right alongside the sweeping sandy surfing beach of Croyde Bay on Devon’s Gold Coast. Croyde is a popular destination for surfers, and it’d be rude not to have a go while you’re here. Guests can hire a variety of boards, wetsuits and other kit from Ruda Holiday Park’s dedicated surf shop, and instructors from the renowned Surf South West school are on hand if you want lessons. If the weather isn't playing nice, head for Ruda’s tropical indoor pool complex, where there are water rapids and underwater geysers, waterfalls, hydrojets and one humongous slide. This site is great for kids of all ages, with the children's club, adventure playground, indoor soft play area, tennis court and activities like 'tots and tunes' or character dining (this last one's during high season only). There's also a good choice of on-site food options, including a beach café and an ice-cream parlour, plus a sprightly schedule of evening entertainment, and comprehensive essential amenities.

What customers say

This campsite boasts a fantastic location, just a short walk from the beach, with friendly and helpful staff. Many visitors enjoyed the spacious pitches and the proximity to local amenities. Facilities, particularly shower blocks, have received mixed reviews, with some finding them clean and modern while others noted they are dated and in need of an update. On-site entertainment and food options are popular, though some found them pricey. Wet weather can lead to waterlogged pitches, requiring assistance from staff.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (no pets)

Liked The beach access and location were great

Nisa shop on site was fantastic

Disliked really disappointed with John Fowlers and the lack of site monitoring. There were numerous fights and parties going in past midnight and yet no one tried to stop it. I can fully appreciate people are having a good time but when I say it was a lot, it was ridiculous. The fact that no one stopped it when it it was right next to the main building means either the staff didn’t want to get involved or there was simply no one actually around.

Toilets looked nice and modern but were not cleaned enough, I assume it was linked to the parties but they were a mess each morning including vomit across multiple stalls.

Liked The campsite was lovely with great views. Toilets and showers were clean and looked newly constructed.

Disliked The food on site was not good. The fish and chips were okay but the curry sauce was not edible. All other takeaway food was not edible.

Taw electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (no pets)

Liked Brilliant views and good facilities

Disliked Couldn’t book onto activities and swimming until we arrived as the booking reference from pitch up is different to the one they give you on site which meant all swimming slots were already pre booked

Croyde Burrows electric grass touring pitch

Liked Gorgeous location close to the beach with lots of food options at the site and within walking distance including Pizza (Robertos, Stoned (van), Hollerbird - fried chicken and slim chicken style sauces, bar food, and a fish and chips which we didn’t sample). Also there is a tea room at Baggy point and beyond that a pub with great views of the bay. A walk up the road to Croyde check out the Hub for outstanding ice cream and also there is the Hideout at the back of the shop which has an Ibiza vibe with cocktails, food and a roof terrace. Billy buddy was also good burgers and nachos - totally recommend a visit although busy. Blue Groove we enjoyed a drink at too. Croyde was ace.

Disliked We arrived on Sunday and the toilet and shower block had definitely not been cleaned as of Monday evening despite complaints from multiple families to the central team, which was gross. Apparently the camp toilets were even worse. They operate check in days (Thurs Sat and Mon?) which are the only days when team are there until 9pm - we luckily arrived by 5pm Sunday else who knows……

Local attractions

Don’t miss the chance to explore the Devonshire coastline surrounding Ruda Holiday Park. Recommendations include a walk to the headland at Baggy Point where you’ll be rewarded with outstanding views; a saunter along spectacular Saunton Sands, and a delve into the dunes at Braunton Burrows. Croyde is a perfectly pretty village of thatched cottages, tearooms, pubs, restaurants, cafés and (but of course) surf shops. There are umpteen visitor attractions in the area, particularly for animal enthusiasts, who can come face to face with life-sized model dinosaurs and a host of their living, breathing descendants at Combe Martin Wildlife Park; practise their trout pouts on some fishy friends at Ilfracombe’s aquarium; or get hands on with the animals at the Big Sheep, the area’s most eccentric day out: sheep racing and stunt ducks, anyone…?
