Another beautiful day

  • Peaceful two-acre site five minutes’ walk from Croyde Beach
  • Ilfracombe 25 minutes’ drive; Watermouth Castle half an hour
  • Café and bar; surf school, surfboard hire and beach shop on site
It’s quite alright if you want to unwind all day long at Downend Point Campsite, in the peaceful North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Mind you, you may find that quite hard with there being two surfing beaches nearby, both accessible via the South West Coast Path: Croyde Beach (five minutes’ walk) and Saunton Sands (half an hour on foot). Yes, you’re in quite the surfer’s playground here… Backed by sand dunes, Croyde Beach is popular with swimmers and surfers, although rockpooling and relaxing may help while away a few hours too. There’s a lifeguard service between May and September, and dogs are welcome on the beach outside of these months. Another walk along the South West Coast Path takes you to the Baggy Point Cliffs (45 minutes), or you can head inland to Croyde village centre (15 minutes), where you might decide to stop in one of the two pubs for a drink. Downend has its own café-bar too, which serves beer and wine, plus Sri Lankan curries, through the day and evening. Time it right, and you’ll get to see one of the site’s stunning sunsets over dinner. There’s also a surf school, surfboard hire and a beach shop on site. Clean and bordered by heather and hedgerows, the site has two acres of land. Facilities include clean, modern toilets, coin-operated hot showers and a washing-up area.

What customers say

Downend Point Campsite offers spectacular sea views and an unbeatable location just moments from the beach. Visitors consistently praise the incredibly friendly and helpful staff, particularly Henry. The campsite boasts excellent on-site food and drink facilities, including a popular Sri Lankan curry. While some find the facilities basic and note the sloping pitches, requiring levelling blocks, the stunning views and proximity to the beach are highlighted as major advantages. The site is dog-friendly, and many guests express a strong desire to return.

Liked Great location just a short walk from beach. Facilities were close by and included showers and toilets as well as a bar and outdoor cafe. Site was a on slight slope but no problem with chucks to level out the camper van. Amazing sunset views.

Liked Wonderful views of the beach and sunset, lovely and welcoming staff and great food and drinks from the sunset bar and cafe right next door.

Disliked Only issue as a camper with a tent was the ground is very rocky under the grass so found quite a bit of difficulty placing pegs into the ground. So if you’re planning to bring tents make sure to bring thick pegs.

Liked We had an amazing couple of days away at Downend Point Campsite and honestly couldn't have asked for a better stay.

The views are absolutely to die for – waking up to such stunning scenery every morning was simply breathtaking. It's the perfect place to switch off, relax, and enjoy nature.

A huge thank you to Emma and Ollie, who were both incredibly welcoming, friendly, and always on hand to help with anything we needed. They really made us feel at home.

We'd also like to thank Henry, the owner, for creating such a fantastic campsite. It's clear how much care and attention has gone into making it such a special place to stay.

If you're looking for a peaceful campsite with spectacular views and genuinely lovely hosts, we can't recommend Downend Point Campsite highly enough. We'll definitely be back!

Liked Amazing location with just views to die for.
A very warm welcome from the wardens and Henry. New showers this year which are amazing addition and free to use now. Great outdoor experience. Food drink and sunset sessions at the bar and cafe on your doorstep. We have the Sri Lankan curry every time which is now available Thursday to Sunday. Going back in a few weeks time.
