  • Peaceful and secluded 200-acre farm site on the river Lynher
  • A 10-minute drive from Saltash or 20 minutes from Looe
  • Pitch up wild-style anywhere on site or opt for field with facilities
What a cracking corner of Cornwall this is: make a break for Bush Farm Wild Camping if you fancy peaceful times spent lounging by the Lynher river. There's certainly no shortage of space at this 200-acre site – woodland walks, strolls through green fields and waterside wanders by rivers and lakes are all on offer here. This family-friendly spot is a fab site to bring the kids to, especially if they're avid nature fans: these wild grounds are always rustling with local birds and beasts, and you can keep an eye out for the farm's friendly horses and dogs as well. When you roll up at this green and grassy spot, you'll be given a map and left to settle down wherever you please. Don't fancy trekking to get to the loo and showers? Opt for the main site instead and pitch up closer to the farm’s creature comforts. Off-site jaunts are also easily arranged in this well-connected part of the world – Saltash and the gorgeous river Tamar are 10 minutes' drive away, while Plymouth, on the other side of the Devon-Cornwall border, can be reached in about 25 minutes. Well-behaved dogs are welcome here. The Bush Farm Wild Camping crew are happy for you to light up a barbecue or firepit and can sort you out with bags of wood to help you get the flames flickering in no time.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch (wild)

Liked We loved the freedom on site, to choose a pitch in any of the available. The site was clean, the staff helpful and friendly. Amenities were simple but clean, the showers were lovely and warm!

Disliked The only few things were the string lights in the bathroom weren’t working which made it slightly tricky to use the showers and toilets when armed with a torch!
The other slight dislike was something out of the sites control but when camping in the field next to the river, the overhead power lines did give off a constant hum. For anyone sensitive to noise, may be a slight off put.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch (wild)

Liked For my 1st solo camping experience i absolutely loved it. Beautiful place, lots of space, friendly staff to welcome you, lovely well behaved doggo’s also offering a welcome (if you like dogs), horses in the fields as you arrive, hidden camping spots and spots on the hills to watch the sun rise. Cold drinks, fire pits and wood all available. Wonderful experience!

Disliked The fact it’s not closer to my home but totally worth the 10mile bike commute!

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch (wild)

Liked Loved how quiet it was. Plenty of space to be away from others and the shower/toilet block was clean with warm water. Owners were very friendly and were able to make my last minute change. Very cheap and was exactly what I was looking for.

Disliked Could not find a fault. Everything was very good for the price and exactly as described

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch (wild)

Liked Despite booking and paying in advance, once we saw the site we decided not to stay. It isn't the attractive wild vibe the pictures portray - it has all the downsides of true wild camping but none of the upsides.

Disliked Although it is advertised as "Wild Camping", so we expected something undeveloped, if you're going to have dozens of people on a site you do need some basic facilities. There were only two small toilet blocks on 200 acres, and I think that was the only drinking water too (we saw people carrying water long distances). Beyond that the place was less than basic - the tracks were rough and very rutted dirt cart tracks, opposite one camping field, by the side of the main track, was a house sized pile of partially burned farm rubbish and scrap metal, and at the far end the "track" took you to a hilltop worksite that looked like a building site. It was all just so tatty and unloved, not an attractive prospect at all.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch (wild)

Liked We loved how peaceful and natural the surroundings were. The walks through the fields and orchard were beautiful, and there was access to the river for a paddle and a swim.
We loved how they provided a fire pit.
We loved that it was dog friendly.
Toilets and showers were quirky but clean and tidy. Lovely warm running water.
The staff were very friendly, kind and helpful.
This site was everything and more than we expected from a wild camping site.

Local attractions

After a couple of days on this vast family farm, you'll probably be a dab hand at finding your way around a fair few of its 200 acres. Put those navigation skills to the test at The Amazing Cornish Maize Maze (five minutes' drive), a fiendishly tricky labyrinth that's planted in a different layout each summer. Adrenaline Quarry (20 minutes), an adventurous activities centre, has more family-friendly options to keep the small sorts on side. Grownups who fancy a break from DIY-style stays can indulge in a proper pampering at St. Mellion Estate (10 minutes), a posh Cornish resort with a top-notch golf course and soothing spa. Once your aches and pains have melted away, take a blissful saltwater bath at Whitsand Bay (20 minutes), or head to Looe harbour for wine by the sea and sunset strolls. The inimitable Eden Project (45 minutes) has been a mainstay of Cornish hols since it opened the doors to its domes back in 2001 – budding botanists and eager environmentalists will definitely want to make the trip.
