  • Family-friendly park 10 minutes' drive from Newquay
  • Covering 56 acres including a dedicated dog area
  • Pool, play zones, clubhouse and fish and chip takeaway
There’ll be plenty of time for monkey business in this family-friendly site… Surrounded by a whopping 56 acres of countryside and a fab place for taking toddlers, Monkey Tree Holiday Park is 10 minutes from Perranporth and its huge open beach, as well as the lively surf centre of Newquay. As you might already (luckily) know, the north coast of Cornwall is tiptop for beaches – Newquay's famed for its world-class waves and heady nightlife, while Perranporth has kayaking and hovercrafting to get adventurously stuck into, and top-notch coastal walks on either side of the beach. Back at base, catch a few pages of your book while the kids splash about in the outdoor heated pool complex… or while they join in with the packed entertainment schedule for juniors (there's a talented in-house entertainment team on hand with a daily kids' club and Funky Monkey putting in a regular appearance). On top of that, a maze of net walkways, slides and ball pools means that younger guests will have plenty to keep them entertained, whatever the weather. Food's sorted with the on-site clubhouse and restaurant, and fish and chip takeaway (fish and chips + seaside = essential). Or fire up the barbecue instead: hit up the camp store for the essentials, or head to the grocery store 10 minutes away.

Electric grass pitch (large)

Liked Pitch size and location was brilliant, entertainment staff were fantastic, facilities were clean and the gardens well maintained, entertainment program was great, arcade was fun, location to local beaches was great and I noticed public transport is right outside the main entrance making it accessible for all, didn’t get to go in the pool due to poor weather conditions but it looked beautiful, soft play area was basic but enjoyable for the young one, it is just missing a ball pit and music playing while in there as it can be awkwardly silent, food in the beach club was delicious but a little pricey, plenty drink options too and super friendly bar staff, on site shop was good and had plenty options for doing a little food shop in, electric hook up was close to the pitch location making it super easy while holidaying with the baby. Didn’t get chance to play mini golf or do any of the day time entertainment activities but the looked great.

Disliked Flooring inside the toilet/shower block very slippy, could do with some mats down, flooring outside the toilet block were also slippy when wet.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch (premium)

Liked Level pitches, friendly staff, welcoming reception.

Disliked We came here in June, and it felt like the park was getting ready for peak of summer so therefore our holiday didn’t matter. The pool only had one heater working and only half of the pool was open as there was only 1 lifeguard outside, although 3 lifeguards were on reception. The pizza takeaway on site was closed all week, fish and chip shop was on limited opening times. The supermarket on site stocked very limited items, we went for bread and sausages for 3 days straight and was never in stock, gave up trying. Customer service in the shop could be improved, didn’t feel welcome and assistant came across rude. Laundrette is overpriced. The entertainment on the evening was repetitive. The whole holiday park seemed empty, almost as if we were the only ones on site, that in itself wasn’t a bad thing but as it was so quiet we didn’t get the full experience and it felt like our holiday didn’t matter. There was work going on around site so there was constant noise from Lorrie’s, tractors, in and out all day from 8am. We were on the first field right next to the road so we had constant noise pollution, not to mention the smell from fertiliser they used for the flowers.
I understand and appreciate that work needs to be done in order to keep up to standards but it seems we picked the worse week to go in regards of this, from the muck grabbers to the work men fixing toilet lights to the work men on the barriers, there was just something always going on. You couldn’t sit and enjoy the quiet because it felt like we were on a building site. The men’s toilets didn’t flush but they weren’t a priory in fixing.
Showers / toilets were cleaned daily but the walls in the showers were filthy. Tent pitches seem to have no drainage, the tent was sitting on a puddle and the tent pegs wouldn’t go in.
Overall it was a let down.
The only positive comment I got is for the park manager Luke. We had an incident happen where the swing broke and the chain came out the frame and hit my brother across his face and and neck. All swings got removed after this as none of them had safety chains on. Luke was the only one who seemed genuine and checked in on my brother.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The whole campsite was great. The pool is terrific, staff everywhere are really friendly. We were in a far away pitch and was quiet at nights and found a lovely, clean and new shower block! Highly recommend the hire shop although you might need to use them at their other site but it’s only down the road!

Local attractions

Cornwall’s coastline and beaches are pretty much legendary, but Newquay (10 minutes) is world-famed for its surf and nightlife too. It’s a party town from daybreak until well after dark and the surf's so good they hold international competitions here – check out Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay. Perranporth (10 minutes) is the place to head for a more relaxed beach day, though it’s very popular so best to get your towel down early. The beach here is a fab spot for dog walking, rolling up the trousers for a paddle or lazing around and copping a look at the views. The Eden Project (35 minutes) has the UK’s most realistic rainforest, full of rare plant species and exotic butterflies, as well as a pretty nifty Mediterranean biome. Daredevils can also have a go on England’s longest zipwires here.
