Getting wet or staying dry? Although Country View Cottages and Yurts is a short drive from the north Cornwall coast and Cornwall’s surf capital Newquay, there’s a right heap of laidback landlubbing choices for those who prefer to stay out of wetsuits. North Cornwall has 70 miles of beaches to wander around and sunbathe/rockpool at; many lead directly onto the seriously scenic South West Coast Path, 630 miles of properly splendid scenery running from Minehead in Somerset round to Poole Harbour in Dorset. The old tin mines of St Agnes – five miles away and part of the Cornish Mines World Heritage Site – are also well worth a look, particularly Wheal Coates between St Agnes and Porthtowan (selfie alert). If, however, getting wet among many watery options and surf schools floats your boat more, well, congrats to you for coming to the right place. Newquay is of course the best-known surfing spot in Cornwall, but plenty of other options are around for a quieter vibe or other types of watersports. Also have a float on your board around Perranporth and Fistral beach, both with surf schools, or try kitesurfing at Perran Sands, Towan beach or utterly lovely Watergate Bay.
