General

  • Luxury yurts on the north Cornish coast
  • With skylight, TV and private decking area with barbecue
  • Well-maintained amenities including private fridge

Wander around the wilds of cragged Cornwall – and tuck up in a warm comfy bed in a luxury location each night at the end of play? Take that as a starter for ten or so southwest days at Country View Cottage and Yurts on Cornwall’s north coast near Perranporth.

There’s some serious luxury going at the yurts here – you might say ‘as good as you’d get at home’, except your interiors are maybe nor as sparklingly clean and cute-looking as these... Each yurt is decked out with rustic wooden furniture most peeps would happily have in their own living rooms and is maintained to standards that most peeps would be well chuffed to have in their homes too. Guests also have a yurt skylight for stargazing, a 32 inch flatscreen telly, fluffy towels and a private decking area with sturdy barbecue.

Site facilities are in the Woodshed: a building with ladies’ and gents’ shower and toilet amenities, each with two shower cubicles, two toilets, and two sinks with power sockets and vanity mirror; a communal kitchen with shared cooker/sink and a fridge and cupboard private to each yurt, and two washing machines alongside two metered dryers. A private washroom and toilet is also available for disabled guests.

Booked yet? Country View Cottage and Yurts also has a play area to keep the kids busy and a free heated outdoor swimming pool: you might just want to pack the whole site up and take it home with you.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/04 and 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The whole experience was utterly amazing from start to end. Andy was very welcoming and friendly and only a call away if we needed any info on anything. The hot tub was an excellent addition and really tipped the trip off. The Yurt was lovely and spacious with excellent décor, and surprisingly warm for the time of year! The beds were so comfy, it was like home from home. The bathroom and kitchen facilities were always kept immaculately clean. The kitchen cupboards were well stocked for everything you would need for your trip. I would definitely stay here again and we are already talking about when our next visit back will be. By far the best campsite I have had the chance to stay on! If you get a chance make sure you book in.

The quality of the site, swimming pool and hot tub were excellent. As were the kitchen area and set up for each yurt. Excellent sorroundings and easy acces for dogs on nearby Perranporth beach. Overall very nice. We would stay there again.

    Disliked:

The key code was not on the booking instructions received (think it was an issue due to pitchup.com rather than the site itself). However a quick call to the owners soon sorted it.

I have never felt compelled to review a site before but having visited my fair share I have to say this is the very best. Really amazing place. There are only 5 yurts in the field, and a few cottages which are so hidden away you are never on top of each other and it is very peaceful. The yurts are beautifully decorated and very clean. Each yurt has its own colour scheme which is continued with the kitchen facilities (cutlery, mugs, tea towels etc) which was so quaint but also so useful when sharing the kitchen with other users. And the beds.....oh my goodness the beds were heaven. My 7 year old (6.30am riser all her life) slept until 9am every day. Unbelievably comfortable - the day beds too. The yurts also have wonderful lighting, and a huge tv and plenty of plugs for charging phones etc. Lots of storage space too so we weren't tripping over our clothes/bags at all. Unlike other sites, the owner has provided absolutely everything you could wish for and we needn't have brought any little extras - small things like tea towels, toilet roll, soap, washing up liquid, DVDs were all on hand which makes such a refreshing change from the bare minimum provided by most sites. The kitchen equipment was excellent too - everything you need; can openers, potato peelers, sharp knives, bowls and plenty of pans and baking trays. So great having a fridge too. Toilets and showers were kept scrupulously clean and the sensored lighting very convenient and hygienic too. The pool is a cut above any other - so so warm! My children were in it 5-6 hours per day - even in the rain. (Just a note, it is a level 1.5 metres deep so watch out for little kids jumping straight in unaware when you first arrive!). It was sheer bliss and loads of deck chairs and seating around it too. It was wonderful swimming in the open watching the swallows dive bombing for insects. Andy the owner works tirelessly and is always available to chat/ask questions and sort things out (even on a Sunday). His dog Roxy was a big hit with our kids too and so well trained. There is a great shop less than a mile away which sells everything you could possibly want but you can't really walk to it - very busy road. Perranporth beach is lovely but very strong currents - good that it is so well policed by lifeguards. I heard from other yurt stayers that the other beaches were just as beautiful too - sandy with lots of rocks to climb and rock pools to explore. I could go on and on about this site - it truly is a beautiful peaceful place. The noise from the road was mentioned by other site users, but to be honest the beds were so comfy I rarely noticed it (and I am bit of an insomniac). My only grumble was that Pitchup doesn't provide enough detail about how fabulous this site is and they also stated at the time of our stay that campfires were allowed. This was not infact the case but as soon as I mentioned this to Andy, he immediately built us a little firepit! Nothing was too much trouble for him.
I am leaving such an extensive review because there is so much more this site has to offer which isn't mentioned in the features/description. I cannot rate the yurts, the facilities, the pool and Andy highly enough! Thankyou for a wonderful holiday.

Local attractions

Getting wet or staying dry? Although Country View Cottages and Yurts is a short drive from the north Cornwall coast and Cornwall’s surf capital Newquay, there’s a right heap of laidback landlubbing choices for those who prefer to stay out of wetsuits.

North Cornwall has 70 miles of beaches to wander around and sunbathe/rockpool at; many lead directly onto the seriously scenic South West Coast Path, 630 miles of properly splendid scenery from Minehead in Somerset round to Poole Harbour in Dorset. The old tin mines of St Agnes five miles away and part of the Cornish Mines World Heritage Site are also well worth a look, particularly Wheal Coates between St Agnes and Porthtowan (selfie alert).

There’s a lot more history of this type to mine in Cornwall for those who like it: the engine houses of St Agnes and the ‘capital of Cornish mining’ at Camborne, Redruth and Portreath are closest to Country View Cottages, while the St Just and Tregonning/Trewavas areas are a still easily driveable distance to the south.

Other nearby land-based options include horse riding, cycling and mountain biking, golf and whirling around at Newquay’s Holywell Bay Fun Park, zoo, aquarium and Dairyland Farm World; ask Andy and team for recommendations. Tintagel Castle to the north is a lovely and legendary place for Arthurian stories, but go early as it gets very busy in peak season. Also try a pedal or a potter along the Camel Trail from Padstow to Wenford Bridge via Wadebridge and Bodmin; bikes can be hired on or near the trail.

If, however, getting wet among many watery options and surf schools floats your boat more, well, congrats to you for coming to the right place. Newquay is of course the best known surfing spot in Cornwall, but plenty of other options are around for a quieter vibe or other types of watersports. Also have a float on your board around Perranporth and Fistral Beach, both with surf schools, or try kitesurfing at Perran Sands, Towan Beach or utterly luvverly Watergate Bay.

Whichever option you land on (both), make room/time for Cornish produce: toothsome pasties, ice cream and the best of south-west England cream teas should be easy to access anywhere (and daily). Four Rick Stein eateries are in Padstow – conveniently on the Camel Trail – and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant is at Watergate Bay – conveniently close to surfing, the beach and scenery so scenic it’s almost criminal.
