General

  • Luxury yurts near the north Cornish coast
  • With skylight, TV and private decking area with barbecue
  • Pool, hot tub and communal woodshed with private fridge

Wander around the wilds of cragged Cornwall – and tuck up in a warm comfy bed in a luxury location each night at the end of play? Take that as a starter for 10 or so south-west days at Country View Cottage and Yurts on Cornwall’s north coast near Perranporth and five miles from Newquay.

There’s some serious luxury going at the yurts here – you might say ‘as good as you’d get at home’, except your interiors are maybe nor as sparklingly clean and cute-looking as these... Each yurt is decked out with rustic wooden furniture most peeps would happily have in their own living rooms and is maintained to standards that most peeps would be well chuffed to have in their homes too. Guests also have a yurt skylight for stargazing, a 32-inch flatscreen telly, fluffy towels and a private decking area with sturdy barbecue.

Site facilities are in the Woodshed: a building with ladies’ and gents’ shower and toilet amenities, each with two shower cubicles, two toilets, and two sinks with power sockets and vanity mirror; a communal kitchen with shared cooker/sink and a fridge and cupboard private to each yurt, and two washing machines alongside two metered dryers. A private washroom and toilet is also available for disabled guests.

Booked yet? Country View Cottage and Yurts also has a play area to keep the kids busy and a free heated outdoor swimming pool: you might just want to pack the whole site up and take it home with you.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/04 et 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Comfortable yurt. Nice comfy beds and furnishings. Good kitchen facilities shared by all yurts but not crowded even at meal times. Fridge and kitchen equipment colour coded for each yurt is a great idea.
Good showers and washrooms, never queued or had to wait for a shower. Kids loved the clean, heated pool and the hot tub.
All yurts located in a large field with plenty of play space for games, but within an easy 50m walk of the kitchen/shower blocks.
Honesty box for cakes, eggs, scones, marmalade made on site.

    Disliked:

Not really a criticism but could have done with some more comfortable outside seating as well as the traditional wooden picnic table, maybe a couple of recliners to set out on the decking or grass outside the yurt.

No wi-fi. I know people want to get away from everyday life for a holiday, but wifi should be pretty much standard nowadays.

From the manager...

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback we don't provide anymore seating other than around the pool area as we feel the decking etc would look too cluttered. Regarding wifi we provide dongles if people ask but don't advertise it as most people don't mind not having it on a glamping holiday. Andy could have provided it though if you had mentioned it to him. Thanks

Everything you need is provided: like having a holiday cottage but staying in a yurt.
Kitchen fully equipped, you don't need to bring any kitchen stuff, cutlery, glasses. Just bring food, wine and beer. Liked having our own fridge, freeze section handy for ice blocks, ice cream and lollies. I liked having access to proper oven and hob, as get bored of bus. Free to use washing machine very handy.
Yurt was big enough for us (2 adults and 2 kids age 9 and 12), clean and comfy. DVD player and tv handy for rainy evenings.
We liked the safe feel with only 5 yurts in total. The other four families were all lovely, kids loved playing with other kids on trampoline, in pool which was always warm, playing tag on the field. Lots of dogs, fine with us as my kids love dogs. This may put off and families with kids or adults who are afraid of dogs, as dogs mostly off lead wandering around all yurts. This was fine with us, kids enjoyed playing with the dogs.
Hot tub is a nice touch. Very relaxing in evening as sun going down.
Washrooms clean, never busy. Showers always free and plenty of hot water with good strong water pressure.
We really enjoyed our week, kids made some good friends. We are looking into coming back next year and would hope to stay in one of the larger yurts (Primrose, Poppy or Lavender).
To sum up, on getting home last night both kids agreed this was their joint favourite holiday ever, they enjoyed it as much as two weeks in turkey five star!

    Disliked:

Son aged 11 complained that he found futon uncomfortable. We knew they would be sleeping on futons, next time we'd book a larger yurt with the proper single beds/day bed & trundle. Despite his complaints, he slept well.
The poolside furniture could do with replacing, it seems rather aged. Some sun loungers with cushions would be great.

It was our first experience with my partner to stay in a real yurt 😊⛺ When I saw pictures of @countryviewcottages I knew it will be an unforgettable place to stay in and I was right 😉 Our Orchid yurt was clean and cosy, you have all necessities including heater in case it gets cold, every detail was thoroughly thought out 👍🏻Bathrooms and kitchen with all appliances were crystal clean, which is a relief for me 😄 Hot tub and swimming pool with warm water is just a cherry on top 😍😍😍The owner, Andy, is very friendly and helpful and his dog Roxy is a superstar 🌸🌸🌸In love with this place, we are 💯 coming back and also bringing friends, #countryviewcottages you stole my heart ❣#yurts #livelovelaugh #amazingsky #love #breathtaking

I felt that that site was tired ... the pool loungers were old and rusty, the yurt was mouldy and damp in places. The kitchen and shower block didn’t seem to be cleaned daily. Just felt it needed bringing up to date and cleaned more often.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review,

We are however a little confused by some of your comments.

We strive to go above and beyond to make our glamping site the very best it can be which you will clearly see by previous reviews.

I have few comments I would like to address. The whole site including inside each yurt, the kitchen area, the male, female and disabled bathrooms as well as the dining/chillout room were all freshly painted for the 2018 season. We didn't actually open until mid-May this year due to the weather, therefore we feel your comment about the site looking tired and needing bringing up to date is a little unfair.

Andy the onsite manager and one of the owners is on site daily and cleans all of the communal areas every morning which is more than you would get on some sites. You may have seen him throughout your stay. If at any point something wasn't to your satisfaction he is there to assist in any way, as are we in the office. Andy would have taken a look at any issue and resolved it immediately, and does as anyone would take any negative comments personally. We will be taking a look at the pool loungers as they are still relativity new, only being used for last summer. Maybe we need to go back to plastic.

Local attractions

Getting wet or staying dry? Although Country View Cottages and Yurts is a short drive from the north Cornwall coast and Cornwall’s surf capital Newquay, there’s a right heap of laidback landlubbing choices for those who prefer to stay out of wetsuits.

North Cornwall has 70 miles of beaches to wander around and sunbathe/rockpool at; many lead directly onto the seriously scenic South West Coast Path, 630 miles of properly splendid scenery from Minehead in Somerset round to Poole Harbour in Dorset. The old tin mines of St Agnes five miles away and part of the Cornish Mines World Heritage Site are also well worth a look, particularly Wheal Coates between St Agnes and Porthtowan (selfie alert).

There’s a lot more history of this type to mine in Cornwall for those who like it: the engine houses of St Agnes and the ‘capital of Cornish mining’ at Camborne, Redruth and Portreath are closest to Country View Cottages, while the St Just and Tregonning/Trewavas areas are a still easily driveable distance to the south.

Other nearby land-based options include horse riding, cycling and mountain biking, golf and whirling around at Newquay’s Holywell Bay Fun Park, zoo, aquarium and Dairyland Farm World; ask Andy and team for recommendations. Tintagel Castle to the north is a lovely and legendary place for Arthurian stories, but go early as it gets very busy in peak season. Also try a pedal or a potter along the Camel Trail from Padstow to Wenford Bridge via Wadebridge and Bodmin; bikes can be hired on or near the trail.

If, however, getting wet among many watery options and surf schools floats your boat more, well, congrats to you for coming to the right place. Newquay is of course the best known surfing spot in Cornwall, but plenty of other options are around for a quieter vibe or other types of watersports. Also have a float on your board around Perranporth and Fistral Beach, both with surf schools, or try kitesurfing at Perran Sands, Towan Beach or utterly luvverly Watergate Bay.

Whichever option you land on (both), make room/time for Cornish produce: toothsome pasties, ice cream and the best of south-west England cream teas should be easy to access anywhere (and daily). Four Rick Stein eateries are in Padstow – conveniently on the Camel Trail – and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant is at Watergate Bay – conveniently close to surfing, the beach and scenery so scenic it’s almost criminal.
