Willow Valley Camping Park: Pitches

General

  • Family-friendly site on spectacular Hartland Cornwall Heritage Coast
  • Less than two miles from the beaches and surf spots of Bude
  • Seven acres of scenic countryside for walks and dog walking

Pack those hiking boots, make sure cameras are fully charged and snag yourself a stay at Willow Valley Camping Park, a family-friendly site in the Cornish village of Bush, five minutes’ drive from the coastal town of Bude – you’ll most definitely want to put those legs to good use.

The site is on the stunning Hartland Cornwall Heritage Coast, with sandy beaches to stroll along, cliff walks to follow and plenty of spectacular treats to stumble on during travels, like the clifftop village of Clovelly, where cars are banned and donkeys are the main mode of transport. The fab long-distance South West Coast Path passes through Bude too, so lengthier rambles are within easy reach.

There’s a fair share of exploration to do on site too if a day at base appeals: seven acres of walks to wander (and dog walks as well, so bring pooch along), and a spacious adventure play park for the kids if they need a bit of distraction or grownups need a chance to unwind.

A small on-site shop will keep moods up during high season, taking the stress out of packing by stocking the basic essentials and giving little sugar bursts as needed (check out the selection of treats to get that all-essential fix). For more substantial fare, Bude has plenty of options for local eats.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

We really enjoyed our stay at Willow Valley. As a family of 5 it was ideal. The campsite was lovely and quiet and the owner was very helpful. Toilet and shower facilities were clean and spacious. 10 minutes drive and you're in Bude and only five minutes to the local Morrisons and Lidl.

Nice stay but was let down by noise and road traffic26/06/2022

Lovely well kept site with all facilities required. Everywhere was lovely and clean.

    Disliked:

Noise levels were not great, we were pitched pretty much on the main road so lots of traffic noise and also right in front of the kids play park where there were kids screaming on some nights until 10pm. There were complaints from other campers too about the noise, not only from the road but other campers, camp rules state noise should be kept to a minimum after 8.30pm, this was not adhered to.. one child playing swingball right by the tents at 6am one morning.
One bug bear also was the showers which turn off after every 12 to 15 seconds. I get the reasons for having showers that turn themselves off but this short time made it very difficult to shower properly.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. We implemented early and late evening walk-arounds the day following the complaints. We also removed the swing ball until the guest who had been using it checked out. We do indeed ask all guests to show consideration as we are a family camping site. It is a shame that not all guests do so.

We loved willow valley from the moment we arrived.
It was easy to find and appeared clean and well maintained.
On arrival we were given a welcome pack- we chose Cornish cider and beer for the adults and chocolate for our children.
I'd mentioned in our booking that it was my husbands birthday whilst we were staying and the owners had decorated the tent with a banner and balloons and gave a card too which was lovely.
The tent was bigger inside than we thought and had a double bed and 2 camping beds which were really comfy.
The tent had everything we needed for our stay including plates, cutlery, kettle and lamps.
The decking area was spacious and had a picnic table and sun loungers. We loved the log burner which was provided with plenty of logs for our stay.
We had a bbq each night we were there but there was also an under cover eating area with gas burners and and a freezer. There was a fridge and washing facilities in the main area along with lovely clean toilets and showers.
My children loved the freedom of running around the grassy areas and using the play area. There were swing balls scattered around too.
We saw lots of rabbits hopping around when it was quieter.
We enjoyed a lovely walk to wooda campsite on our last day which had a lovely play area and a bar and restaurant which was open during the evenings. There was a lovely nature walk which took us on a pixi trail through the woods where we saw alpacas.
Bude and large supermarkets are just a 5 minute drive away if needed.
We loved it so much that we booked to go back in September the night we arrived home! The owners were very helpful and friendly and answered my questions before I arrived as we'd never camped like this before.

    Disliked:

The road was a little noisy but you soon got used to it.

From the manager...

Wow, what an amazing review! We look forward to welcoming you back to Willow Valley in September.

Local attractions

Start any stay here with an immediate jaunt into Bude – there’ll be something here for everyone. There are splashing times to be had on the town’s Widemouth, Crooklets and Summerleaze surf beaches (all about 10 minutes’ drive from base) and with a few hours of coasteering, paddleboarding or swimming in the sheltered sea pool. Anyone who prefers to stay on dry land can visit the heritage centre in Bude Castle or pass by the town’s oldest house, Quay Cottage.

Keep one foot in homes of the past by tripping around stately piles and seeing how the one percenters of yore lived hereabouts: within 45 minutes of base, wandering the halls and rooms of Hartland Abbey, Pencarrow House and the Lawrence House Museum comes highly recommended. The stunning cliffside ruins of Tintagel Castle (believed to be the place where legendary King Arthur was conceived) and the pretty RHS Garden Rosemoor are within 40 minutes for easy scenic strolls and explores.

There’s plenty to keep kids entertained too: The Milky Way, The Big Sheep amusement park and trips on the Launceston Steam Railway are within half an hour. If longer car rides aren’t a problem, Crealy Adventure Park, Exmoor Zoo, the Blue Reef Aquarium and the fab Eden Project are a little over an hour away.
