General

  • Friendly site in a tree-filled valley near Bodmin Moor
  • Well-maintained and peaceful park in a wildlife haven
  • Easy drive to both coasts and five minutes' ride to the Camel Trail

Escape with a break to Ruthern Valley Holidays… At this friendly site in a tree-filled valley near Bodmin Moor, the emphasis is on making the most of the natural surroundings – think birds and rabbits rather than bingo nights, and a gently meandering stream instead of the boom of a disco bar.

The site is carefully laid out to offer visitors the maximum space and seclusion possible. Kids will have a blast roaming around the woods building dens and wildlife spotting, chatting to the resident chickens and pigs, and bouncing around the leafy playground area.

Ruthern Valley Holidays also has a licensed shop selling bangers, other local goodies and some essential camping gear. Other amenities include solar-heated showers, toilets, a laundry and washing-up facilities.

  • MegaPod camping pod

Gorgeous mega pod on a lovely tranquil site. It feels like you're going to have Disney animals on your decking in the morning! The heater and under floor heating was really efficient and meant we were toasty warm. We choose the mega pod even though it was just the two of us as at our age, there would have been too many night trips to the shower block. The toilet within was an amazing feature. That said, the showering facilities where the best I've used on a camping/glamping site. Very clean, individual rooms with toilet, sink and shower. Also heated! Water was hot too. Too many places have very small showing spaces so it's hard to keep your clothes dry, not a problem at Ruthern Valley. The pod had sink, kettle, fridge with small freezer space, perfect for three cool blocks, microwave. Also crockery, cutlery, dustpan and brush. Washing up liquid and cloth were also provided. There is a shop inside which doubles as the reception. We had no need to buy anything, but it looked like it covered most things from loo rolls to wine! It's a very peaceful place and we were there in November, but I'm sure it would still be the perfect place to unwind from the stresses of life, even in peak Summer. Also a great base to explore both North and South Cornwall due to its central location.
I would definitely recommend this park and would also happily return. What a little gem of a place.

The site is in a beautiful secluded wooded valley. There was a river running alongside. The site was spotless and the hosts really friendly and helpful. It is not far to get into Bodmin and the A30 but we felt miles from anywhere. Very relaxing.

Peace and quiet, natural surroundings. Friendly welcome and spotless showers/loos. We enjoyed a lovely autumnal break at this site, thank you.
The electricity point was a fair distance - and limited to 6A making us 'consider' our load, whether appliances were strictly necessary - good for the site and good for the planet!

    Disliked:

Our hard standing pitch wasn't level and we were unable to erect an awning due to the proximity of a hedge.
There was no site lighting - the provision of just a couple of leading lights near the amenities block would have helped navigate to the block...
The 6A current limit on the electric hook-up tripped at least 6 times when we used the microwave or travel kettle (not and!!!) without first turning off the water-heater (the fridge/charger/lights being other 'loads' drawing current). This tripping was a nuisance.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. Andrew will be able to help you with the electricity next time, though, as you mentioned, most appliances won't work at the same time when camping. In keeping with the natural surroundings, we don't have outside lights at the shower block, so we tend to recommend torches. We hope we'll see you again! All the best, Andrew & Nicky
