Shaded spots for sunny days

  • Peaceful, spacious family-run farm site 10 minutes from Henfield
  • 10 minutes' drive from the South Downs National Park; 20 from Brighton
  • Pick up fresh free-range eggs from the farm's hens
Alpacas, goats, Shetland ponies… the nippers are going to love this one (to be fair, it’s likely the grownups will love it too, but feel free to make out it’s for their benefit if its earns you brownie points). If you’re fond of finding furry friends on your holidays, set forth for farmyard fun at Pear Tree Farm, a family-run site 10 minutes’ drive from Henfield (and its handy supermarket and shops). This West Sussex site is part of a 12-acre property, but with guest numbers kept quite minimal to ensure oodles of peace and space for all who settle here. Come armed with all your kit, as this is a back-to-basics place that doesn’t have such facilities as toilets and showers. Bring a barbie and you’re welcome to cook out over the coals; if the farm’s flock of happy hens has done its stuff you’re also in for a great breakfast feasting on fresh free-range eggs. For days when cooking's too much faff, it’s a 20-minute trot to the local pub (just the right amount of walking to work up an appetite) or a five-minute drive to Hurstpierpoint for a little cluster of pubs and takeaways. Away from the animal antics, there are some fab days out nearby – you’ll be a few minutes’ drive from scenic strolls in the South Downs National Park, and 20 or so from beach times in Brighton.

Peartree non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Quiet/central location, very friendly owners and alpacas! , plenty of space on pitch. Was nice to try somewhere different. Probably would return for these aspects

Disliked The chemical waste point was rather unpleasant and I couldn’t find a water point nearby to wash the toilet pot around with, only the fresh water outlet. With having to pay for an extra vehicle our stay was more expensive than a nearby site with electric unfortunately.

Beautiful back to basics site!

Peartree non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely friendly welcome, incredibly peaceful location and easy to find. Felt miles away from everywhere without having to be. Alpacas on site was great for kiddo to see! Lovely bit of shade to one side we could seek shelter in. Site facilities as described in listing back to basics. But this and being a smaller site meant there was utter peace despite the field being full. Felt incredibly safe and secure in there with there being people on site at all times. Son loved it and we will look to book again!

Peartree non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Absolutely fabulous!! The owner Derek was so friendly and welcoming. We had a fantastic pitch for our camper next door to the alpaca 🦙 field 😁 Friendly campers around us, perfect location just 20mins from centre of Brighton and we drove to Devils Dyke nearby for Summer solstice to watch the sunset ...we are definitely going to return and Derek explained the toilets and shower block will be completed shortly.
Highly recommend 🙏✨🦙👌🚌

Peartree non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked I spent a very happy and peaceful night at Pear Tree Farm and would go back in a flash. There's water and grey/toilet waste, otherwise it's back to basics.
The site is neat and tidy and the owners are welcoming and friendly. Loved it. 😍

Peartree non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Relaxed simple site, with no toilet/shower which was just what we wanted. Friendly owners and very friendly alpaca!
Quiet and beautiful surroundings.
Flat site and not packed close together.
Rated high although only a few amenities as described so although not there, didn’t mark it down for that as it was as expected

Disliked Only negative was the 10.00 checkout time as it would have been nice to have a more relaxed morning.

Local attractions

Seeking somewhere to stroll or cycle? You’ll be sorted in the South Downs National Park – with more than 2,000 miles of paths, it claims to have more to choose from than any other of the UK’s national parks. If the 100 miles of the South Downs Way seems a little daunting, perhaps the six-mile Centurion Way or the 11-mile Meon Valley Trail (along a disused railway line) will be more your style. Horsey types in search of something a little larger than the Shetland ponies can saddle up for rural rides about 10 minutes’ drive away, or head to Hickstead (five minutes’ drive) or Plumpton races (25 minutes) to see the pros in action. If you’re more into golf than gallops, you can take your pick from three courses within a 10-minute drive. Set off towards the seaside and you should hit Brighton in about 20 minutes or so. There’s always plenty to do along the buzzing stretch of beach, including watersports galore, traditional amusements on the pier and the excellent Sea Life aquarium. It’s worth leaving time to visit the toy museum and poke around in North Laine’s independent shops and cafés too.
