Lots of space around the pitches

General

  • Peaceful, spacious family-run farm site 10 minutes from Henfield
  • 10 minutes' drive from the South Downs National Park; 20 from Brighton
  • Pick up fresh free-range eggs from the farm's hens

Alpacas, goats, Shetland ponies… the nippers are going to love this one (to be fair, it’s likely the grownups will love it too, but feel free to make out it’s for their benefit if its earns you brownie points).

If you’re fond of finding furry friends on your hols, set forth for farmyard fun at Pear Tree Farm, a family-run site 10 minutes’ drive from Henfield (and its handy supermarket and shops). This super Sussex site is part of a 12-acre property, but with guest numbers kept quite minimal to ensure oodles of peace and space for all who settle here.

Come armed with all your kit, for this is a back-to-basics place that doesn’t have such facilities as toilets and showers. Bring a barbie and you’re welcome to cook out over the coals; if the farm’s flock of happy hens has done its stuff you’re also in for a cracking brekkie feasting on fresh free-range eggs.

For days when cooking's too much faff, it’s a 20-minute trot to the local pub (just the right amount of walking to work up an appetite) or a five-minute drive to Hurstpierpoint for a little cluster of pubs and takeaways. Away from the animal antics, there are some fab days out nearby – you’re a few minutes’ drive from scenic strolls in the South Downs National Park, and 20 or so from beach times in Brighton.

Please note

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

Bookings must not be for more than 14 consecutive nights.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

This is a new campsite run by a friendly chap with Alpacas. It’s a basic campsite because it’s still in its infancy - there are no ablutions. But it’s quiet and uncrowded - perfect for a quick getaway in the countryside if you’re self sustainable. Don’t let the fewer stars mislead you.

Quite peaceful site with lovely helpful owners .
We stayed here with our two boys (4&6) they loved the alpacas and the animals !
The owners were there on hand helped us park our van and even helped us when we had problems with our leasuire battery.
This is a quite site but great for kids the owner introduced the boys to the alpacas .
Note it has no toilet or showers but clean drinking water and very well maintained site .

Little gem of a site, fantastic host. Although a site with basic facilities, it's obvious it's owners care for the place like none other, very welcoming and full of info to help your stay. With only a handful of caravans, it feels more like your a guest rather than punter.
The UK needs more facilities like this where a land owner shares what he car, true entrepreneurs battling the beaurocracy that's strangling British commerce.
The limited facility is well cared for and clean, we had a great night here.

This is a hidden gem! Stayed for three nights during Brighton Pride, the location is absolutely perfect with a nearby train station at Hassocks getting us to Brighton in about 10 minutes. The site is very easy to find and is beautifully presented. We were lucky enough to get a corner plot next to the Alpaca's who were very friendly! The owners are extremely welcoming and hospitable and we have left as friends. Don't pass this lovely site by just because at present it doesn't have electric hook up - with a bit of careful planning it's easy to live off on-board gas and the lack of a TV meant we actually enjoyed each others' company and conversation! Thank you for a truly wonderful long weekend, we will be back soon!! :)

Local attractions

Seeking somewhere to stroll or cycle? You’ll be sorted in the South Downs National Park – with more than 2,000 miles of paths, it claims to have more to choose from than any other of the UK’s national parks. If the 100 miles of the South Downs Way seems a little daunting, perhaps the six-mile Centurion Way or the 11-mile Meon Valley Trail (along a disused railway line) will be more your style.

Horsey types in search of something a little larger than the Shetland ponies can saddle up for rural rides about 10 minutes’ drive away, or head to Hickstead (five minutes’ drive) or Plumpton races (25 minutes) to see the pros in action. If you’re more into golf than gallops, you can take your pick from three courses within a 10-minute drive.

Set off towards the seaside and you should hit Brighton in about 20 minutes or so. There’s always plenty to do along the buzzing stretch of beach, including watersports galore, traditional amusements on the pier and the excellent Sea Life aquarium. It’s worth leaving time to visit the toy museum and poke around in North Laine’s independent shops and cafés too.
