  • Dog-friendly farm site in Romney Marsh run by a friendly family
  • Cycling and walking paths nearby; a 15-minute drive to Dungeness
  • Café next door and a traditional pub five minutes’ walk away
Kicking back peacefully in Kent will be the only task at hand at dog-friendly Jessamine Farm, unless you want to count roaming around Romney Marsh by bicycle or visiting a lighthouse or lush beach on the coast. Folks have been cantering to Jessamine Farm for over 40 years - since 1978 - so thousands before you have also gone on to track down the easily accessible local National Cycle Routes (including the numbers two and 11) and walking trails. Just like you might, they’ve probably also plopped down on a lush grassy spot in the orchard to take in the starry skies on a clear night. This family-run site is peaceful indeed, and it has a lot of character: Puff the horse may spy on you from afar and you may also spot the family’s dog Omen (also known as chief rabbit chaser and sock thief). The meadow has a wildlife pond, and on the note of wildlife, bird chorus will also serve as a ‘good morning’ from the feathered kind. When you’re feeling peckish, either rustle up something edible on a campfire or head out to one of several local spots. Next door, there’s a typical British café serving fry-ups. New Romney, five minutes’ drive away, has a supermarket, and popular restaurants including an Italian and a Mediterranean restaurant. A traditional pub is also five minutes’ walk away.

Electric optional touring caravan pitch

Liked: So peaceful and quiet. The staff couldn’t do enough, and there was always a smile on their faces. Struck gold with the weather over Easter weekend. No light pollution so both nights the skies were clear and we even saw a shooting star! Our kids absolutely loved it, especially the train track next door which we watched go round and round for ages. Stunning setting all in all and we truly felt welcome. Enjoyed it so much we ended up staying another night. We honestly cannot wait to come back. You guys are awesome!

Disliked: Only being nit picky here! We had difficulty finding it as signage for the site was hard to locate. We ended up going straight past and then had to go into new Romney to turn around, with a caravan on the back it wasn’t the easiest feat. There is a sign, but it only faces one way (not the way we were coming!) so maybe a signpost down the road for people coming from Brenzett/Appledore way. We bought the bits for a fire, which were decently priced for £5 for all of it. However we didn’t have much kindling, so our fire last about 20 minutes and then went out because it just wouldn’t catch.

Electric optional touring caravan pitch

Liked: Personal feel, friendly, very clean. We loved everything about this site. The team are fantastic and couldn’t do any more for us, they helped us set up, checked on us when passing, assisted us on departure after heavy rain during the night. This was our first trip away in our new to us caravan and I can honestly say had we not gone to this site I would probably be selling the caravan. We had a wonderful time and this was 100% down to the team at Jessamine Farm - thank you so much x

Electric optional touring caravan pitch

Liked: We were greeted with a warm welcome, due to the heavy rain from the storm, the pitch was water-logged so they offered an alternative parking space. Lovely little spot, very clean.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Really lovely pitch, we chose the middle of the orchard and we were allowed to pick some of the fruit too! Toilets really clean and already look fab but will be amazing once finished. Shower was the perfect temperature and each press of the button was just the right length of time!

Disliked: We got so bitten by the bugs after dark- recommend insect repellent!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: It is a stunning, quiet and clean place, one if the most beautiful place near to Camber Sands (20 min drive). The owners are so lovely and friendly, ready to help if you need! Very happy and thankful that we have the chance to stay for 2 nights in this place!

Electric optional touring caravan pitch

Liked: Lovely area, fantastic hosts, easy access to the countryside for walks.

Disliked: Shame the local pub only opens infrequently. Still some work to do on the facilities and wasn't keen on the bark chippings on the pitch.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The location is really easy to find, the site has a little orchard, pond with lots of frogs, a football goal with plenty of space to kick a ball, the stables with ponies and a horse. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The toilets are decent and easy to access.

Disliked: We stayed in the bottom field near the pond so just be prepared for mosquitos.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Everything! It was our first little camping trip at Jessamine Farm. We pitched our tent in their little orchard next to a horse paddock. My little one loves the horses! The facilities were lovely and clean. We were given a fire pit and logs which was a lovely touch for the evenings! Wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely be back!

Disliked: Nothing!

Local attractions

Working your way outwards is a good plan of action, and beginning that tactical exploration will no doubt be a visit to the Brenzett Aeronautical Museum (five minutes’ drive), where there’s a wartime equipment collection, aircraft crash site remains and other wartime artefacts. A different chapter of history is on-hand (and interactive) at Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway (five minutes), a heritage railway which will take you Dungeness the old-fashioned way. Once in Dungeness (15 minutes), there’s a fair few next courses of action… climbing to the very top of the Old Lighthouse, a Grade II-listed building which saved many ships in the 20th century, perhaps? Keeping your eyes peeled for rare birds (booming bitterns and wheatears, even) in the RSPB nature reserve? Port Lympne Safari Park (25 minutes) has a good-sized selection of bigger animals; the acres-wide drive-in savannah features lions, tigers and wolves.
