  • Small family-run site set in woodland alongside the River Medway
  • Aqua Chimp Kent five minutes' drive; castles a short drive away
  • Watersports and trails from the pitches; fishing lake, licensed café
Set in four acres of woodland bordering the River Medway and 15 minutes’ drive from Tonbridge in Kent, Branbridges Leisure is a small family-run site with camping and glamping options to suit all sorts of people – and their dogs, of course. Once you get there, you’ll discover there are all sorts of things to do around and about the site, too. First of all, it’s on the Medway Canoe Trail – a huge draw for watersports enthusiasts who can paddle to their heart’s content. Bring your own gear if you have it (a small launch fee is applied); alternatively, it’s possible to hire everything you need for a day out on the water on site. Walkers and cyclists can follow the Medway Valley Walk along the river right from their pitches – with the added bonus that there are many pubs for refreshment stops along the way. The site also includes a small fishing lake stocked with carp, roach, perch and chub. The fishing is free for all site guests, who can also angle on a stretch along the banks of the Medway. When you need an energy boost after all that activity, head for the licensed on-site café, which serves locally sourced produce from 9am to 4pm. Prefer self-catering? Bring your own barbecues; there are plenty of local shops and supermarkets within a short drive of the site, and the café can also supply barbecue packs. Firepits can be hired on site, subject to availability and weather conditions for safety.

Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch (lake view)

Liked Superb site. We had a view straight onto the lake with our own decking. Toilets and showers on site were very clean with an old horse box having been creatively constructed into a toilet and shower block. Very pretty. Staff were lovely and the cafe served great food. Launched straight onto the river for a day paddle boarding with equipment for hire for those who don’t have their own. A little gem.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, the site makes it clear there are no toilet waste facilities, electric hook up or hot water (save for the showers) so you just need to come prepared.

Non-electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch (lake view)

Liked We had a lovely spot by the lake with our own decking. Even after being there only a couple of hours, felt like we’d been there ages. Very peaceful and relaxing. Ideal location right on the Medway Valley river walk. We walked our dog one way in the morning, and the other way in the afternoon. The on site cafe is very good. Good menu with reasonable prices. The evening was idyllic…sitting on our reclining chairs by the lake with our lights on with a bottle of wine.
Think we will be returning often, as we were looking for a site in reasonable distance for frequent weekends away.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay in the woods and felt it was a great location. We don't personally serve eggs for campers but will pass this onto the café 😉

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked The atmosphere, scenery, river, all of it!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from the minute we got there. Friendly helpful staff, loads to do. Our son was so happy on the field playing the games and on the rope swing. Not sure why people are commenting on the showers, its a quick wash at camping not and all inclusive resort 😂 we had plenty on time in there for all of £2. Hired some kayaks which was so easy and fun and and bonus to be able to do this all in the same place. Pitch was spacious, facilities were so clean, cutely decorated and you can tell they put thought into it. Relaxed and well thought out

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch (woodland)

Liked Lovely little campsite, with some lovely walks along the river. We camped in the woods which the kids absolutly loved.

Disliked Our only dislike which was'nt actually the campsite's fault is it can be a bit noisy at night if your next to the river like we was. As there were speed boats speeding up and down. But apart from that the campsite itself is lovely.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, We are glad you and the children had such a good time. We love our camping spots in the woods, particularly in the recent hot weather.
It's a shame you were disturbed by people not being respectful along the river of an evening. Unfortunately they were a group camping at a nearby campsite that have since moved on.
We appreciate you mentioning this was out of our control and we hope to welcome you back again soon.

Liked Loved the location right on the river, quiet, small site with an amazing cafe. The breakfast was delicious.
We rode our bikes along the river, path was very narrow at times and the brambles scratched but very enjoyable, all the same, definitely come again.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Woodland and riverside walks, ponds and paddleboarding. There were plenty of adventurous play areas for kids, but ours tended to just like playing with the many sticks laying around.

Disliked Amenities. Wash station had no hot water or drain. Toilet in the horse box was nicely decorated but very cramped, and the showers experience was stressful. Put £1 in outside the shower, and your 3 min starts immediately, so you have to rush in, lock the door, strip, shower and rinse before it cuts off leaving you soapy, or have a friend outside supporting you. There were also 3 massive and extremely bright security lights shining on my tent every night, combined with the sound of generators, let me know we were in an industrial estate. Place has potential to be lovely, but feels unfinished.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed the woodland and river side walks.

The drainage from the sinks goes back into the ground, recycling the water which we feel is more environmentally friendly and particularly in this extreme heat.

Sorry if you felt the toilet was cramped, we have 2 other toilets including a large fully accessible toilet that was shown on arrival.

We had our electrician attend site today and reprogrammed the showers, £1 now equals 5 minutes of shower time. If the person before you does not turn the shower to 'stop' before you put in your coins, sadly it will start immediately. We do have a sign that states this but unfortunately cannot constantly check if people are doing so.

Such a shame you did not camp river / lake side on the field instead. There was plenty of room on the 3 nights you stayed. We currently cannot help when units in the estate run extra machinery in the heat. We have never had this level of noise before and we are looking into provisions.

Local attractions

Centuries-old Leeds Castle (25 minutes’ drive) is a moated structure with links to Henry VIII, who used it as a royal residence during his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. On the grounds are a grotto and maze, a bird of prey centre (falconry displays take place on a regular basis) and a Go Ape treetop course. The massive inflatable adventure course at Bewl Water Aqua Park (25 minutes) makes it possible to climb, bounce and slide. Other water-based activities at this large reservoir include paddleboarding, canoeing and wild swimming, but there are also wooded walking and cycling routes. If you are in need of an animal fix, start at Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats (25 minutes), where dozens of inquisitive hoofed beasties roam around freely. It’s possible to join the carers as they feed and brush the goats. For marginally less tame encounters, head to National Trust - Knole (half an hour), with its deer park.
