  • Family holiday park set in 100 acres of Kent countryside
  • A 10-minute drive from Margate's beach and attractions
  • Pool, clubhouse, restaurant and family bar
Kent countryside… but more essentially, Kent coast. Kids who clamour for maximum sandy days while on hol – and grownups who clamour for loads of options to keep small sorts fully busy – will be hugely chuffed at the setting of Birchington Vale Holiday Park, a few miles from the miles of golden sandy beaches of the north Kent coast. But back to the setting in a bit… For even the fussiest guest (of whatever size) should find something to keep them entertained at this well-equipped family park: there's an indoor pool with flume to splash around at; an adventure playground and an amusement arcade for adventurous and amusing hours; crazy golf; pottery classes; archery... and Loopy and pals as park mascots overseeing the lot and the kids' club. More? Stroll over to the clubhouse for eats all day long, as well as evening drinks in the family bar, evening entertainment for all the family, and a scenic setting for Sky Sports and to use the free wifi at the bar. The clubhouse also has a shop if you'd rather sort your own dins. And that setting? Birchington Vale is on 100 acres of Kent countryside, three and a half miles from Margate and within easy reach of loads of family attractions including Howletts Wild Animal Park under half an hour away. Many local attractions lay on exclusive deals for park guests.

What customers say

Pods are consistently praised for cleanliness, comfort, and convenient amenities, with many guests highlighting friendly and helpful staff across all departments. Facilities such as the swimming pool, bar, and entertainment are popular with families and children. However, some guests experienced issues with the showers being small, poorly designed with inadequate drainage, and having scalding water. Other reported downsides include pods getting too hot in warm weather, occasional issues with arcade machines, and concerns regarding the quality and price of food in the clubhouse. Some guests also felt that the layout of the pods could feel too close together.

Camping pod

Liked All the staff from reception, to shop staff and cleaners were so lovely, helpful and friendly - felt immediately welcomed from speaking on the phone before hand to arriving for our holiday.
The pod was lovely, clean, well laid out and the beds were comfortable (1 pillow per person, bed sheets and a duvet provided)
There was 4 chairs and a table, small side kallax unit and all the plugs had USB charging ports. Dustpan and brush was provided and a small clothes airer which was very handy for towels.
(We didn’t get a chance to use the facilities like pool/bar as we were visiting family locally but they all looked fine from a distance)
The area all round the pods was well maintained and they were super close to the shower/toilet block which was secured with a key.
There was a communal bbq area for the pods
There was parking close to the pods specifically for people staying in the pods.

Disliked We went when the temps were through the roof and the pods were unbearably hot - we took a fan which meant we could at least circulate the air but this may be something that could possibly be provided as it was exceptionally hot inside them - not really their fault it just is what it is but worth bearing in mind of travelling in the heat!

The showers are dreadful!
Firstly, I’m not even that tall (5ft 7) and I couldn’t fit under the shower head, the space was so small it was near on impossible to get changed in there I had to wrap in a towel and go back to the pod because everything fell into the huge puddle of water that accumulates, there was a grubby shower curtain trying to help stop the puddle forming but ultimately it’s just bad design and no effective drainage. Even if a squeegee was provided so you could drag the water to the drainage it might be a little better but generally it needs addressing. The water was scalding hot - if I had a small child I have no idea how I would have washed them in there because it was unbearably hot. The water stays on for about 10 seconds if you’re lucky!
Just really let the place down because the toilets etc were clean and well maintained - the showers really let it down and when the weather was so hot there was no way I was skipping one.

Liked Everything was close by within six minutes by car

Disliked The amount of ant infestation in these pods is incredible! It would help if they've supplied a fridge! We got infestated by ants before we even took any food into the pod. Also there are a few disgruntled residents making issues for newbies..

Camping pod

Liked Loved everything buy this site. Really lovely pod, the layout was great inside and the site was really clean considering it’s a park holiday. The staff were wonderful so helpful & friendly and the showers and toilets (for the pod users) were one of the best we’ve been to. Lovely lady cleaning them every day & also the pods inside and out. Food in the club house was great, as to be expected. Entertainment was great. The one guy we had for the weekend clearly loved his job & his audience and he was enthusiastic to say the least, we really had a great time. We loved it so much we extended out stay for an extra night. If you plan to hire the go-kart pedal car thing be prepared for a serious work 🥴 swimming pool was basic but fun is what you make it. So we loved it. Didn’t get round to the crazy gold but sure it would have been good fun! fantastic place absolutely loved it and rate in the best we’ve been too !!!

Disliked Can’t honestly think of anything we disliked. If we had to put something I’d say no equipment like a kettle in the room but having been to other holiday parks we can’t totally understand why they didn’t provide that. ( on a busy camp like that I can’t imagine how many thinks would be stolen and broken!!) and we just took our own stuff to use! And they did provide a small storage unit, airer & sheets and pillows so really can’t argue with that. So no real dislikes at all

Camping pod

Liked The glamping pod was spotless and perfect for a couple of nights with comfy beds and power. Facilities were also v good! We liked the pool and the bar area - and proximity to Margate and surrounding area (by car).

Disliked Limited opening hours of shop and pool (9am felt too late given distance to shop/ 5pm too early!) it would have been nice to come back and enjoy the pool after a day out and about.

Camping pod

Liked The pod was fantastic, facilities clean and the staff were incredible, particularly Donna. So welcoming. It was easy to book swimming and Crazy Golf was only £3. Entertainment in the evening was great for the younger kids. The park was really quiet. The arcade was brilliant.

Disliked The food in the Club House was beyond dreadful and not worth the money at all. We ordered a stone-baked pizza, which was a thick cheap, very heavy frozen pizza, completely smothered in oregano. My husband ordered Ham, Egg and Chips, and it was just two very thin slices of anaemic looking sandwich ham and a small handful of chips - £14!! The two ladies behind the bar were run ragged looking after the kitchen, the bar, and the arcade. They were so apologetic but definitely understaffed. The food reflected that. We didn't eat there again.

Camping pod

Liked The pod was great and much better than I expected. The toilet facilities were close by which as also good. The place was quiet at night which is always a worry. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

Disliked The restaurant/bar was really nice and cl an. The food was great and the bar staff were friendly.
What spoilt it though was that we were in there from about 5:30 -7:30 on the Saturday evening. There were children being entertained by the site entertainment but there were several TVs which were all showing UFC bouts! These were very violent and in one match one fighter got his nose flattened and the other sustained a massive cut across his cheek.
A, this was not suitable viewing for children
B, this was not conducive to our enjoyment of our food

Liked Fantastic budget prices for accommodation break. Bar prices were a little bit steep. Overall a great location for a nice getaway.
Clamping pods could do with a broom or dustpan and brush in the space to help keep clean.

Local attractions

There's heaps to do for all ages and inclinations around this part of Kent coast and Kent countryside. All ages should have a hoot at Margate, with its lengthy sandy beach to bask on as well as a scenic harbour which should be your scenic spot for Margate fish and chips. Also on your list should be the Dreamland Amusement Park, then a jaw-dropped look at an attraction of a completely different vibe but a spectacular sight: the famed Shell Grotto and its huge mosaics made up of over four and a half million shells. Like quite a few fascinating things in humankind's history (aka, Stonehenge), no-one quite knows who put the shells there or why: let the kids enthral you with their increasingly bonkers theories while there. Family day trips include Diggerland, to drive full-sized diggers; Leeds Castle and Go Ape, and the 28 acres of grounds at Kent Life, the open-air museum and heritage farm park on the bank of the River Medway. All are 50 minutes' drive away. Canterbury and the Canterbury Tales are half an hour's drive away.
