General

  • Dog-friendly site in the grounds of an Edwardian country manor house
  • In the New Forest National Park, 15 minutes’ drive from beaches
  • Farm shops, pubs, cafés and train station within walking distance

You’ll be all set for a royally relaxing stay at Camping at the Manor in the New Forest National Park. Here, you’ll be dwelling in the grounds of an Edwardian country manor house where there are often wild deer to be seen roaming the grounds and occasionally the mad owner on his lawnmower ensuring that the pitches stay nicely trimmed.

You’ll have plenty of space to make into your little hidey-hole, as the pitches are spread between three large fields, surrounded by mature trees and planting for extra privacy. They’re level-grounded too, so it shouldn’t be too tricky to set up your tent and you’ll have access to a composting toilet, a shower and a washing-up area.

There’s a real treat in store when it comes to the world of food around this area, as New Milton (five minutes’ drive) lives up to its name as a market town. As well as regular shops, there are farm shops for local goodies and pubs, restaurants and cafés. Closer by, Ashley (35 minutes’ walk) has a small shop too.

Of course, there are all the popular pubs and eateries around Sway, Milford on Sea, Hordle and New Forest too – many within a short drive of the site. Just let the site know if they can arrange any bookings on your behalf.

Those of you planning on leaving the car behind won’t need to miss out, as local buses will take you to Bournemouth or Lymington and the train station in New Milton is just 40 minutes’ walk away.

quirkiness and the character of the site.
Really friendly staff, and lively atmosphere

    Disliked:

Partner wasn’t keen on the eco toilets- but I liked the set up and added to rustic quirkiness of our stay.
Camping pitches were quite close together

From the manager...

Thank but you know I have to defend ....

We advertise that we ate eco toilets ...please dont mark us down because it's not your liking. They are cleaner than anyone has at home , no smell no chemicals and no carbon footprint.

The pitches are the biggest in the forest at 10mt so if your close to someone you have too much stuff and should book 2 or your pitched in the road way.
Ie if you book 2 that gives you 20mt x 10mt .
In unregulated campsites people literally put their guy ropes over yours .......

Its not a bad review but please think about what is a fair re view rather than being a typical british critic.

Top many people need to loosen up and look at what your getting for 25 quid !

We could just open with a plastic chemical loo and trailer showers rented in.

Stumpy was a great host. Very helpful. Food sold on site.

    Disliked:

There are no pavements on the surrounding roads - would not advise walking (or cycling) from this campsite. Taxis really need pre-booking as not many available.

From the manager...

Hi Catherine
Thank you for your feedback.

If you stay again I would be happy to book taxis for you.
As for pavements , the forest is like that the whole way through.
It's part of where we are.
Unless your in the town the whole forest 1000's miles are the same.
Who wants concrete anyway.......
We have never had anyone worry about cycling. I cycle most weeks about 20 miles from here so people reading this don't be scared.
We now have a new 1 minute pizza oven to charm you with burnt offerings 🙈🤣🤣🤣🥳
All the best

Very friendly, family friendly campsite. Children loved the wood fired pizzas on sale, the hot chocolates from the shop and the endless football games with other kids camping. Adults enjoyed the star gazing at night, the bacon rolls for breakfast from the shop and the very relaxed feel to the site. Compost toilets were also a hit with the children.
Only ten minutes drive from many beaches locally. Mudeford beach and ferry was a particular highlight. Lots of pubs 5-10 mins drive away too and local shops for sourcing food to cook yourself.

As for the quirky stuff, the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum (five minutes) has a collection of restored motorcycles, including factory racers and exotic prototypes. Arty types might want to visit the Forest Arts Centre (five minutes) too.

Put some peaceful walks in your plans too… there’s plenty to explore around the 24-acre Steamer Point Nature Reserve (15 minutes). It’s close by Highcliffe Castle (15 minutes), a grand Grade I-listed mansion which will add in some history.
