  • Peaceful site by Basingstoke Canal between Farnborough and Aldershot
  • A 15-minute drive from Birdworld, 45 minutes from Marwell Zoo
  • Secure site with facilities designed to be accessible for all guests
Safety, accessibility and activity are the watchwords for stays at Runway's End Outdoor Centre, a quiet Hampshire site next to the Basingstoke Canal between Farnborough and Aldershot (and less than 10 minutes’ drive from the centre of either). This is a place where parents can relax and let the nippers have a bit of freedom: the relatively compact site is entirely surrounded by fencing (with a key-coded access gate for added security) and kept car-free so there’s plenty of safe space to roam about a bit. There’s a spacious grass area for playing games, and various activities can be booked ahead (such as archery and climbing). As well as being designed with utmost security in mind, this is a place that’s also been set up to be fully accessible. Showers, toilets and washing-up facilities are a short walk from the pods and pitches, and all amenities are linked by flat paths to make everything easy to get around. And getting out is just straightforward: stroll or cycle out from the site onto the canal towpath and you can follow it for 32 miles along the water’s edge. The local area is also full of military history attractions and museums to visit, along with family-friendly attractions such as animal parks and an open-air pool. Junction 4 of the M3 is about 10 minutes’ drive from the site, so it’s easy to get down here from London, or head up for a day trip with a journey of around an hour by car (traffic permitting, of course).

Camping pod

Liked: Great secure location Pods are well heated Plenty of hot water Showers and toilets were good in comparison to other camping sites Easy to book and clear instructions

Disliked: New shower curtains - very mouldy Tiles in shower and floor need a good scrub - this isn't weekly dirt but several months! Mattresses in the pods need renewing

From the manager: Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay with us. I apologises that the shower curtains, floors and tiles were not clean. I have personally inspected this area and have instructed staff and contractors to ensure this is resolved. The new pod mattresses are arriving in 2 weeks time, after a delay this summer with our supplier. I apologises you are one of the last customers to use these before being renewed. Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: Our weekend stay at this camping and activity centre was exceptional. Nestled in the heart of nature, the site offers a perfect retreat from urban life. The surrounding woodlands create a serene atmosphere, while the well-designed pitches ensure privacy for each group. Despite rainy weather, we found plenty to do both on-site and in the surrounding area. The centre offers a diverse range of activities suitable for all ages. Our family particularly enjoyed: Archery: Led by Chris, an outstanding instructor Caving: Another thrilling experience guided by Chris Hiking: Exploring the nearby trails Chris deserves special mention. His clear explanations of safety basics and engaging teaching style significantly enhanced our adventure activities. His expertise and enthusiasm made our experiences in archery and caving both safe and exhilarating. The staff's friendliness and professionalism contributed greatly to our positive experience. They were always ready to help and provide information about the centre and local attractions.

Liked: Lovely big pitches and there are loads of toilets and a covered washing up area. The shower rooms are private individual ones and the water was lovely and hot. The duty manager very friendly and did several checks of campsite to ensure everyone ok.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: I liked that it was fridge and refrigerator, other than that nothing to like to much.

Disliked: When I arrived, the prices was quite expensive for any of the activities. If you don't come with lots of extra money is useless since there's nothing else to do. The camp site was inside the forest instead outside. Like wild camping.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Good Morning, We are sorry that the site was not quite what you were expecting. Our price is per pitch for up to 6 guests, rather than per person, for spacious pitches that are separated from each other by trees, offering groups a sense of off grid reconnection with nature whilst not being far removed from civilisation. Activities can be pre-booked for 6 years old and older, but these are in addition to the pitches as not all customers are interested in the activities that we deliver. Many campers are looking for a little oasis of nature to escape to and just chill by a firepit or kick a football around on the games field. There are plenty of walks in the local area, with an amazing array of wildlife to spot, if that is your thing? Or we can provide ideas of other things to do in the area suited to your interests. This is included in an Information Pack that is emailed with the final information. As an improvement, we will include this information once the booking is received and confirmed so that campers are able to plan their stay in advance. Best wishes, The Team Runway's End Outdoor Centre
