General

  • Small family-run site in a New Forest hamlet
  • Traditional award-winning pub right next door
  • Campfires allowed and fire baskets provided

Harrys Field is a small family-run site in a quiet corner of the New Forest near the peaceful hamlet of Frogham. Three generations of the same family have lived next door for over 40 years – you’ll pass Grandad Harry’s cottage on the way in to the site. Keen campers for generations, the family now run their own campsite and look forward to greeting many guests.

Harrys is surrounded by open forest, wildlife and villages. Its nearest neighbour is the Foresters Arms, an award-winning and fine dining country pub with a good selection of real ales.

The site has large level pitches, plenty of toilets, hot showers and sinks for washing up. Campfires are allowed and fire baskets can be provided.

Very friendly staff, level picthes, safe, enclosed site 29/08/2016

The owners and staff are all so helpful and friendly, was on my own with young son and was worried about putting tent up so called them beforehand. When we arrived they knew who I was straight away and actually put the tent up for me! Lovely little shop, yes just the basics, but was all I needed. Great in the morning having freshly baked croissants and pain au chocolate warm from the bakery - but get in early as they soon all go. The main loos are portaloos, but a couple of "normal" loos in stable block, which were much nicer but all loos were kept clean at all times. The showers are portashowers, again clean at all times. The site is flat and each pitch is plenty big enough to give privacy and to spread out. It's great that the gate is kept shut at all times so you know that the children can run around freely and safely. As they don't allow stag/hen parties etc, there is a lovely family feel to the whole site, this is made even better by the owners who really do make you feel welcome and yes, there is a real person called Harry! (he is so sweet and kind). Very handy for the pub next door (good food at reasonable prices). Beautiful walks nearby. Not sure if it was a like or dislike but no wi-fi and not great calling signal (good in some ways, bad in others!) But will be coming back next year.

    Disliked:

In the hot weather the portaloos start smelling a bit - but they were soon emptied and no smell. The portashowers are a bit of a tight squeeze with all your clothes and towel etc - could do with a few extra hooks. Also the temperature is not controlled so even when it was hot weather you couldn't have a cool shower.

The first night quite a few teenagers were running around, knocking into the tents, making too much noise late at night- annoying when you've got little one trying to sleep. At other sites they have someone from the campsite go round telling people to keep noise down and no more running around. They did this the second night but by then the teenagers and family had left anyway.

Everything you could ever want in a campsite 24/08/2016

The owners were amazing, so friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The field was level and the pitches were spacious. The campsite had all the facilities you need and was clean and well kept. The mornings brought freshly baked croissants and pain au chocolat and you can buy essentials in their little shop. The evenings were a delight with the fire pits that they rent out - just as proper camping should be. The location of Harry's Field is perfect for walks in all directions and the pub next door has donkeys galore just waiting to say hello to you.

We loved the fact that this was the most equipped campsite I've ever stayed at. Free tea and coffee, a lovely communal washing up area with dish racks, washing up liquid and bowls provided plus an area to charge your phone, posh clean flushing toilets, free soap, even the portaloos were clean, well-stocked and plentiful. Not to mention the lovely showers of which there were 6, so no queuing in the morning. The plots were clearly numbered and laid out with plenty of room for parking - we had ample space. Loved, loved, loved it here and definitely recommend it - and the pub next door - lovely.

    Disliked:

Perhaps the field was too crammed but it didn't feel oppressively busy, if you know what I mean?

The staff were exceptional. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The pitches were of a good size and reasonably level. The toilets and showers were kept very clean. The site is right next door to a fantastic country pub. The little shop was basic, but stocked the essentials. Overal a great little site.

Local attractions

Downhill forest trails are nearby for mountain bikers and miles of gentle, flat, family-friendly paths are around for cycling. Many of the cycle and walking tracks in the forest pass some well-known pubs: the Harrys Field team recommends the Royal Oak in Fritham and the High Corner Inn at Linwood for refuelling stops. Riding stables are a few minutes' walk from the site if you'd prefer to get out by hoof.

Half an hour's drive will take you to the coast, from the quiet wooded beaches around Lymington to the massive sand dunes along Hengistbury Head and Mudeford.

You could also spend days out at seaside towns and cities of Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and swish Sandbanks, the Poole Harbour peninsula town that has the fourth highest land value in the world.
