General

  • Lively holiday park on the Essex coast
  • A short stroll from the seafront, pier and amusements of Clacton
  • Indoor pool complex, bar, restaurant and evening entertainment

Big it up at this large and lively park in Clacton-on-Sea, where even the water chute into the pool (which you can shoot down in high season) is a squealing 200 feet long...

Highfield Grange Holiday Park sits slap bang in the middle of Clacton’s seaside shenanigans, close to the rides and attractions of the nineteenth century pier, the seafront park, the shops, and the paddling and sandcastle-building facilities (the beach is only five minutes’ walk from your pitch).

The spacious on-site bar and restaurant has a menu to satisfy the most ample of appetites, and in the evenings, the Grange Entertainment Centre will keep all ages amused with its stuffed schedule of live acts, cabaret, competitions and dancing.

Highfield Grange Holiday Park has an indoor pool complex as well as the heated outdoor pool where the monster slide splashes down during the summer months.

Guests also have access to a prolific programme of land- and water-based sports, plus kids' clubs with activities to please everyone from tricksy toddlers to picky teens.

Well laid out site and toilet blocked cleaned regularly. Close to large supermarkets too. Bar prices are high and food choices at the bar are very limited, but only to be expected I suppose.

    Disliked:

The disabled shower could have some seating, so people can sit down to dry themselves and get dressed.

Never again, Unhygienic toilets and unsafe for kids. 24/07/2017

    The price

    Disliked:

The reception staff seemed to be giving newcomers a welcome under duress, as if they weren't enjoying their job to the extent of even forgetting to include entrance key fobs with the welcome pack.

The toilets, albeit a modern prefab building, was ill-equipped and badly designed. There was only one hook per shower, even in the disabled room. There was no privacy i.e. cubicled sinks. The shower trays were raised above the floor level and the shower curtains didn't stop the water spreading across the entire toilet block floor so it resembled a paddling pool regardless whether it was Mens or Disabled, I cannot speak for the Ladies but I would assume the same design. Due to the lack of a Radar Key the disabled room tended to get used as a family room and therefore not always available to disabled people. The sink in the disabled was barely big enough to brush ones teeth and I would imagine that severely disabled people would struggle with all aspects of the disabled room.

In the welcome pack there is a leaflet explaining the prices of Fish & Chips etc. This states that Fish, Chips & 1 side is about £5.70. What it doesn't say is that the Fish & Chippery are only open at the weekends and all other times Fish & Chip takeaways have to be ordered at the bar with a 60% price increase, for less.

For the size of resort, and the number of motorised vehicles using it from golf carts for staff through to HGV's for deliveries and waste collection I would have expected footpaths but instead everybody was forced to walk in the road as well as kids playing in the road.

As someone who holidays a lot around the country and abroad I can safely say that Highfield Grove is the most unsafe site for kids and by far has the most unhygienic and ill-equipped toilet/shower block of any touring site I have been on in the past 5 years, and I have been on a lot. This is not something that has not been said before as I have read similar reviews about this resort, just that nobody seems to take any notice so Park Dean are obviously not concerned whether people enjoy their stay or not.

As for staying at this resort again, I can only say it would be an absolutely last resort.

Proximity to large Tesco Store and bus stop outside gate.

    Disliked:

Nearly everything. There was no organisation of pitches. I requested a pitch near disabled facilities, was told it was take any pitch, could not be booked and pitch up should have told me this fact. Facilities were terrible, flooded every day and disabled room was wrecked and could be used by anyone. Site was untidy and dirty. Two gypsy families on site when we arrive and were asked to leave. Dogs roamed about the site with resultant dog mess deposits.
Far too many units packed onto a small area for quiet and comfort.

Every thing was great I have nothing bad to say if I was being picky I'd suggest that securiy should keep an eye on a few drunk adults in the show bar while children are present ,but hey it is a holiday camp

liked the park as a whole great layout very spacious, good location nisa shop wasnt too expensive, friendly bar / waiting staff and security feels like a quality site

    Disliked:

This has been mentioned a few times, the touring shower and toilets eere awash with water constantly, users are showering with the curtain open which then floods the changing area, the drain for the water protrudes above the floor level and is not flush fitting so water cannot drain away. My partner informed me that the ladies toilets were worse as there was toilet roll everywhere presumably from unsupervised children, it really pit her off which is a shame as it lets the site down.
On the Saturday night of our stay we went into the entertainment area around 11 and tables tho empty wre full of glases that hadnt been cleared, one of the security guys was attempting to clear some away but that was it.

Showers !!!! Always flooded maybe have a squigy mop in there so people can clean up after themselves ? Also sunday morning we ordered breakfast...egg on toast and waffles.. after waiting 50 minutes we still hadnt received them and people who ordered breakfast after us were getting theres. We were not the only table to experience this. We eventually got a refund but no breakfast. The waitress didnt seem to have a clue what was going on . Bar staff were very apologetic.

Great site in a great location. Very fast checkin!!! So close to everything you need inc major supermarkets, factory outlet and town centre (even a car boot close). We have stopped at butlins in Skegness (our first caravan holiday) but the kids enjoyed this place more as the touring pitches are right next to the pools, play area and also the main entertainment block. The shower\toilet block looks brand new and also was clean every time we visited. The pitches themselves have water at no extra cost also. The entertainment on site was fun for the kids up till 10pm then the adult entertainment started which was also very good as it varied night to night. The toddlers pool was clean and nice and warm for our two small children which they loved. The onsite food was also very good in the bar area (we had the mixed sea food platter which was well presented and full of flavour). Not much more I can say to be honest, very clean site with great facilities will be looking to come back in the future.

    Disliked:

Wifi was slow as so many people were using it which was expected but used my mobile to catch up on some work as the signal for Vodaphone was so good.
Pity the bingo game can't be moved somewhere else but it does only last 30 mins so we played on the 2p machines with the kids before the big entertainment started.
More staff required on bar. Took my wife about 30 mins to get served on Sunday due to some sort of massive football presentation which we had to wait for it to end.

This area of Essex is full of pretty villages and lovely countryside that’s great for walking and cycling: the Painter’s Trail through Dedham Vale, perhaps better known as Constable Country, is one of several cycling routes in the region.
