Quarry Farm: Entrance onto the site from the farm driveway

General

  • Adults-only peaceful and scenic site on a fruit farm in the High Weald
  • A 30-minute drive from Hastings, 40 minutes from Royal Tunbridge Wells
  • Café, farm shop, yoga, kayaking, wild swimming and spa treatments

For hols where leaving the site will be hardly necessary, you can’t go wrong with Quarry Farm in East Sussex – the adults-only spot just outside the village of Bodiam will be sure to keep guests of all stripes busy and entertained during stays.

At the on-site café and farm shop (the Hub), guests can of course partake in locally sourced eats, and spend time poring over shelves of artworks, pottery and fresh produce, but it’s in the extra-curriculars where the Hub really shines…

In need of some relaxation? Wander along to the wellness centre for yoga, Pilates, spa treatments or a massage. Want to be more active? Try paddleboarding, kayaking, foraging, wild swimming or triathlon training. The site team also has contacts in the area who can help set up classes on everything from ceramics to wild cocktail creation.

If a change of scenery is needed somehow, plenty hereabouts will entice. The site is on a fruit farm in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it should come as no surprise that myriad paths and trails to follow are within easy reach, starting with a five-minute ramble across fields to the Kent and East Sussex Railway station in Bodiam from where guests can catch the steam train to Tenterden.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Tents are not accepted at this park.

Guests under the age of 21 are not allowed on site.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

Great large headed field site with really nice views to Bodiam castle (about 10 mins walk away). Lots to do in the area and two nearby pubs and the excellent Hub cafe for brekky. Very quiet, with no children and dog friendly so a bonus. Will come back again.

The pitch was great, very personal but could easily interact with others. Was also great that you can use what space you like. Very peaceful even with family campsite near by. Farmer is extremely friendly and relaxed. Great opportunities for walks in the area and the nearby hub offers a nice range of food and drink, plus different food vans in the evenings.

    Disliked:

The hub does say cafe and shop, but the shop wasn’t quite what we imagined, didn’t really have food or drink options for sale, especially not the basics.

Well kept, level grass field, sheltered by hedges. Peaceful setting, adults only. Has fresh water. Has black tank emptying and bins for rubbish/recycling. The owner, John, is very pleasant and collects site fees in the morning. Good TV and Mobile signals. Nice local walks including to steam train and Bodiam castle. This is a good central location for visiting other interesting day trip venues.

    Disliked:

No hookup - although we managed OK without it for three days, two nights.

Local attractions

Deep in 1066 country and the High Weald, this is a prime destination for history buffs. It’s less than 20 minutes’ drive from base to Battle Abbey and the 1066 battlefield, where guests can explore the visitor centre, clamber around the abbey ruins, stroll in the walled garden and learn all about medieval fighting.

If that’s just whet appetites for more, take a step closer to the present day by exploring some of the many stately manors and pretty gardens hereabouts: it’s a five-minute drive (or less than 20 minutes’ walk) to the 14th-century Bodiam Castle, and Great Dixter House and Gardens, Bateman’s, Scotney Castle, Herstmonceux Castle and Camber Castle are all within half an hour.

When hols require jaunts to the beach, guests will be spoiled for choice… It’s about 35 minutes to the coast and to watersports on sandy stretches like Camber Sands (windsurfing) and Cooden beach (jetskiing). It’s also around half an hour to Hastings where a sandy beach stretches along the seafront, and amusement parks, museums, caves and an aquarium will all vie for attention.

For a break from salt-filled breezes, turn inland instead with a trip to Royal Tunbridge Wells for shopping, museums, gardens and lots more history, or wrap up hols on a cheery note with a trip to Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard (five minutes from base) for a drink or two.
