What customers say
This is a peaceful campsite with beautiful views, offering a back-to-basics experience. Facilities are generally clean and adequate, with hot showers and washing-up areas. Guests appreciate the spacious pitches and convenient location near the M6, making it a good stopover or base for exploring the Lake District. Some find the access road bumpy and pitches can be uneven. Noise from the M6 is occasionally noted.

Liked The views were stunning
Disliked Very unhappy, email stated from owners only 6 electric pitches available however when arrived found another tent and caravan connected to our box when consulting via text I was told the main hook up could cope and it’s not a problem despite our lights keep flickering on and off.
Toilet block was not clean, toilets were overflowing, signs everywhere stating caution hot water however water was freezing cold when washing dishes. Dogs were running around off leads combined with several noisy neighbours and lots of fire pits which apparently are not permitted based on all the signs located. Will not return, however despite all this the scenery is beautiful.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We are committed to ensuring all customer feedback is carefully listened to, this helps us make improvements where needed and lets other users know that their feedback is greatly appreciated. We are a small family run campsite and take great pride in our efforts to ensure customers service and cleanliness as a top priority. I personally came to clean the facilities on sunday morning around 7:45 the toilets where not overflowing nor where there any other major issues just general cleaning and replenishing was needed. Number 7 was an extra electric pitch with no detriment to any other users. We understand that other users may not realise there are being overly noisy, in these situations we are more than happy to come and resolve any problems if we are notified about them on the night. Summer holidays often brings family bookings and we do advertise we are a family friendly site. Many thanks

Non-electric grass pitch
Liked Stunning views in a lovely, peaceful location. Booking and check-in were both easy and went smoothly. The showers and toilets were clean and perfectly adequate for our stopover.
Disliked This was not the campsite's fault, but unfortunately our stay was affected by a serious incident on the pitch next to us.
The dog on the neighbouring pitch barked continuously from around 10.30pm for well over an hour.
Eventually, some other campers approached the owner about the noise, but the situation quickly escalated. The dog owner became aggressive, threatened them with a large wooden pole and threatened to set his dog on them. The police were called and he was eventually arrested and taken away for the night.
While this was happening, I contacted the campsite owners using the emergency number as I was genuinely concerned for our safety. Although they live approximately a minute away from the site, I did feel it took longer than expected for them to arrive given how serious the situation had become.
I completely appreciate that the behaviour of another camper was outside the campsite owners' control. However, as we were unfortunately pitched next to the disturbance and contacted the owner late at night, I was disappointed that when I saw the owners on site the following morning, they didn't check in with us to make sure we were okay after what had happened.

From the manager: Holmescales campsite is committed to ensuring all customer feedback is carefully listened to and improvements made where possible. Rules of the campsite can be found on pitch up and sent via email along with other helpful information and contact details on booking, we also have our rules listed on a sign near the washing up area and shower area we appreciate that sometimes other users may not realise they are being noisy or disrupting other neighbours, so we are more than happy to pop up whenever there is a issue, unfortunately if we do not know about the problem on the night we can not resolve it. Many thanks
